Can someone link me to a video or something to show me how i can change my unsealed bottom bracket to a sealed bottom bracket? I've had an unsealed bottom bracket for my bike for years, im buying a new bike with sealed bearings all round, but my girlfriend wants my old bmx to ride with me at my local park, is there a particular way? mine is one of those big bottom brackets, Not the new small ones, It's a 2005 mongoose pro sniper, if anybody knows what frame it is.
Well, if the mongoose already has a 3peice but just isn't sealed I wouldn't worry about it. Your girlfriend will be just fine on it the way it is.
but, to change out the BB you will need to buy a whole new crank set up, which would cost more than the bike is really worth. Keep what's in it and put money into your new bike.
@twiztidsidfreak13 I understand all this but.. The bottom bracket itself is fucked lol. Excuse the language but i have to exemplify my meaning. The driver side of the bottom bracket, The cone or whatever (Not the dust cover thingy or the thing you place into the frame) the thing for the bearings to sit on right next to the sprocket is all chewed up. And when you pedal and ride it for a bit it becomes extremely loose and the more you tighten it, the more the frames cup things push inward.
Well, it sounds like you need a whole new crank system. Snafu and Redline both have good priced crank set ups that come with American BBs. Or look on craigslist and you might find bikes for good prices for parts or something. The part you are talking about is called a race lol its the cone part the bearings sit on. if it is chewed up that is NOT good lol you are going to need a new crank set either way
@twiztidsidfreak13 Well it's only 1 part that is chewed that "race" part.. I have another Sprocket the same size connected to a 3 piece thats the same size and all. But the sprocket is weirdly bent xD
see the bottom bracket i have a mongoose villain pro and i need a new bottom bracket but i cant find the same 1 is there any other ones that will fit my bike
Glad I could help. If you need help with anything else let me know. I know I could have done the "how to" a bit better and edited it better, but I think the video shows what to do well enough.
@twiztidsidfreak13 cool vid do you think you could make up a video on how to strip a bmx asin take it all parts off stem forks bars frame etc im wanting to make a custom bike sprayed and built by me but no doubt i will end up screwing it up and breaking something or when i have all my new parts ill end up doing it wrong
Well I don't really have a bike i could take apart that much. It's not hard just take it apart slowly and remember where everything goes. just make sure you got all the right tools!
the only part of bike maintainance im not too sure about is building wheels. is it fairly easy to learn to build wheels. It can't be that hard. Is it easy to learn from books.
building wheels can be hard, but it's not overly hard. There are videos out there showing how to lace the spokes right. I personally do not bother doing that myself. I would rather just buy a wheel set complete. You got to get all the parts for a good deal to make it worth doing yourself
Well the best thing is to turn the frame so the BB you are trying to get out is facing away from you. Then you bang it out moving around the edge of the barring. I use an old ratchet because it has a wide enough but slim enough flat edge to not hurt the BB but enough got get it out. It's kinda hard to describe this was. just bang on the BB from the inside moving around the edge. I hope that helps
Well, im not really sure what kind of BB you are trying to remove. Just remember some times you have to hit it harder than you think you should. Just make sure to keep moving around the edge to keep it even as it comes out. Also, when you do get it out and put your new BB in make sure to slightly grease the bearings or cups (whatever is fitting into the frame directly) that way next time they will slip out easier
That is commonly known as a LOCK WASHER, it has the tab that goes into the grove of the threads to keep it from spinning while in use. it is not 100% necessary but really should be used. Any spaced washer of the same size will work, but as i said the tab helps the washer not move while in use or while tightening. Hope that helps
Not all bikes need or should have 3piece. If you had watched the video right you would have seen that I am working on an old school GT Mac1 I am not some 15 year old trend hopping kid, I'm a grown up who has been riding bikes for well over 20 years and who has been collecting for over 12 years. I am a lover a rider and a collector of bikes of many ages and styles. I hope that answers your question
well a hammer and a old ratchet or a screw driver works. just makes sure to tap from the inside and work your way around dont just hit in one spot and out they will pop
why is the video mirrored, and those unsealed bearings keep loosening all the time; the one pc crankset bends all the time and breaks easy. Hope your one pc crankset is from crmo, couse else you are gonna end up buying a 3pc too soon. Or a whole new bmx bike....
ive been riding and working on bikes for over 20 years im sure i know more about them than you do. you cant beat an old school GT! if you do a good job installing nothing will come lose and if you are over 175 and plan on doing hard riding you should use a 3peace crank, but just for normal riding it will be just fine
Great video! Is that a Mach 1? If so, I just picked one up just like it for $20. It's just the F/F, Dyno stem, and a stamped GT seat post. What year is yours? Mine is a '93. Serial number says 0393XXXX M I. Keep up the good work!
@4JsloveR No It was the full bike. I got it for $10 at a thrift store around 5 years ago. I think the years is like 1990 or so. It has no sn. It also has one of the hardest chainwheels to find with that sticker set. The original neck broke. I got the crank and bearings for around $20. It is still in peaces waiting to be finished. :(
You are a moron, im sure you like m&m, that fake ass Dr. Dre dick sucker!
You are nothing but a loser ass fag troll who has never and will never touch a woman! You have a small dick and you smell bad! I doubt you even know how to ride a bike so I don't know why you even watched my video. How about stop being a troll bitch and get a life you fucking loser FAG!
just wanted to say this vid is amazing helped me out a ton i wantd to kno if i broke the ball bearings somehow if all i need is new bearings or totaly new "crank-sproket"
I just didnt remember cuz i was on cam and trying to think what way people would see. but the instructions are right on and well done i think. not going to find step by step video like this just anywhere

is it possible to replace a unsealed bottom bracket like that to a sealed american/mid bottom bracket?

Yes, with an american BB. its getting harder and harder to find cups for those. Mib barrings are the same thing but you need the cups

You should have an unsealed american bottom bracket. take the bike to a shop have them look at it
and they will tell you and then go get it and replace it yourself

@calumc604 i am selling the same bottom bracket he uses it is second hand but rides and looks fine!
