Watching the guy slide his finger over the phone I can't help notice some lag. With as smart as Japanese people are, why are they using Android? Can't they make their own operating system? Not hating but I'm just really curious about this.
then you would get a rather handicapped phone. as a kietai (japanese mobile phone) this is locked to the network it was produced for (in this case, AU KDDI) unlocking these phones is complex, requires a hypersim (aswell as all the negative aspects that entails), and even if done right does not enable packet data services. you get a 2G call / text phone. dont get me wrong, i love japanese phones, i have 5 infact, but they have many limitations and i wouldn't recommend them to people.
@surruk Wrong, you can use it on any network that uses CDMA. I frequently travel between Japan and America, and can use it on either networks. No unlocking or jailbreaking required.
yeah, you live in japan though right? (makes me jealous :P ) so you have the AU KDDI sim / plan and use roaming right? unfortunately for us living outside japan, we cant do that, you need permanent residency in japan (or at least a alien registration card or whatever it it now) to legally get a phone :(
also, still doesnt help me because i live in Australia, no CDMA here ;_;
This feels to me like just the beginning of Japan encorporating smartphone OSes into their high-level phone hardware. I guess this is a good-enough start. Not great, but good enough.
@SneakyMrPanda Nah, they have been doing it for a long time in other companies. This is just an AU first. Other phone companies over here (Japan) have had vastly superior smartphones for a long time.
The CMOS/CCD gap is getting closer all the time, though. While it's true that CCD still performs better in small form factors, CMOS is showing some real advantages over CCD in larger form factors.
japan can do better than the iphone but honestly there isn't a real huge demand for smart phones like the US...they like their flip phones----and they are better than our flip phones..
I really don't like the interface. It looks too much like iPhone's main screen. It seems kinda laggy too, after a couple months of use it might slow down even more. Japan already has cool phones, they don't need this, I also thought they could come up with a better design.
Nice cam! I haven't found a phone I like better than the Backflip. Full touchscreen sucks for ppl that text. I can use full touchscreen if I want to but I always can flip out my key pad when I need to. It's all about options.

I just find it funny that Sharp actually think that offering "orange" makes them different from "apple"

@ooivodwt IKR! The Galaxy S has absolutely no lag in comparison, lol. It might just be the uber-high rez screen. (well, as uber as the iPhone 4)

Basically a Japanese iPhone catchup model. They never thought it's going to be this popular in Japan, until they got completely owned by Apple.
