  • Phenomenal.

  • this band is Damn near untouchable!!!!!

  • And what about Emmylou? Her hair is gray but she´s still beatiful. She's like a rare wine

  • Watch Chris' head between lines. It looks like a big rubber band is snapping his head back to the mike.

  • emmylou harris looks smokin! i wanna be her someday! :-)

  • Chris,to me has always looked younger then his actual age.He has taken really good care of his self.I think he still looks good to.

  • I know right Iguess that dry southwest air agrees with him he looks better now than he did in the Byrds

  • Yah, Chris, you look great. Thank heavens you didn't go the same road as Gram. Live and learn, I guess. Chris coming to Toronto with Herb Pedersen (40 years collaborating - yeehaw!!) in a month. 'Can't wait.

  • Can you upload "If I could only win your love" from this performance?

  • The musicianship assembled here alone far outtrumps the likes of a Taylor Swift,Kenny Chesney,Tim McGraw or a Rascal Flatts.

  • @landrykkb yes there is a lot of great expirence in this band

  • So I guess that Emyylou did love him after all then?

  • I am looking for this episode of American Music Shop. I want the full version. This was a classic... Does anybody have any suggestions where I can get it?

  • @gbroward You and me both...there was a set in it with Tish Hinohosa and Chris that is nothing short of pure art...the whole show was one of the best episodes of "American Music Shop", and that is sayng something, the series was fantastic. I miss the days when the Gaylord outfit owned TNN and CMT, they introduced us to real Americana and country music. If someone could get the rights, I think DVD's of "American Music Shop" and the old "Texas Connection" shows would sell well.

  • This show was by far the best on TV ever! So many great acts, and you don't see them anymore. THANKS FOR posting this!

  • Hmmm.... sound like Jerry Douglas took John J part maybe thats why last 20 secs were confused. John let him have it. Anybody ever played live on stage? C'mon now

  • here's an intresting fact. the guitarist also recorded with roger mcguinn on his" back from rio" album in this same time period. theres a clip of it on youtube from the tonight show where roger plays" king of the hill." I wonder if chris recommended him to roger or vise versa?

  • is she not one of the most perfectly beautiful creatures god ever made?! and sounds beautiful too.

  • Serious pickin'. Fast Polka!

  • Looks like Mark O'Conner on fiddle

  • Emmylou is so beautiful...as usual.

  • Al PERKINS; PEDAL STEEL, JERRY DOUGLAS; DOBRO... KR

  • if there's a guitar player out there who kicks more ass than John J , kindly let me know !

  • Damn! It just does not get better then this!!

  • Who's the lead player on guitar?

  • John Jorgenson (sp?) Wicked...

  • @unclebobunclebob Thats John Gorgenson

  • Beautiful harmony vocals. Chris Hillman and Herb Pederson are absolutely awesome. Emmy Lou is is no slouch herself. Beautiful woman with a golden voice.

  • Chris Hillman is a sweet and beautiful man.Love him!

  • @SumnerMurrayRedstone Have you ever actually met Chris? And on top of that do you even know the true story regarding him and gram and why they cut ties with one another? Get your facts straight before you post such slander

  • sumnermurrayredstone---he knows country music for sure,i liked him in the byrds and the flying,b,bros but the guys attitude towards other musicians sucks-i think hes angry that despite only having two solo albums gram,p is seen as a legend

  • I've got tix to see them next month near DC and I am stoked. Thanks for giving me a preview of what to expect. Sounds good!

  • I saw this when it was on. Killer line up on stage.

  • Ahhh, you figured out who I am.. shucks.

Many thanks though. It's an honor and pleasure being with the guys, they are truly the best.

  • Then that was me you bought that "Way Out West" cd from. LOL.

And check the liner notes in WOW. I wrote them.

  • You probably saw me back then too. I was at the merchandise table!

  • Nice lineup of Gibson J-200s

  • This is great. I agree with northernmuse9. The harmonies were great and there was no doubling up or anyone stepping on anyone else. And I didn't notice things slowing down at the end. I'm glad I found this video tonight!

  • Y'all don't know from harmony singing. She's not stompin' on his harmony--on the last two choruses, she switches to the top harmony (NOT an octave above Herb, who is a high lonesome tenor and sings in the same octave)--and nobody's out of tune. (Except you). Her voice sounds a bit worn & torn--she had some problems perhaps w/nodes around this time--which may be why Herb is laying back a bit, gentleman that he is. Or it could just be the mix. They knew what they were doing. :-)

  • Now that's some country pickin'!

  • Really top notch musicianship, excellent, as good as it gets, over the top!

  • Very niiice, thank you..

  • "Jumbos" to die for...

  • Did Chris Hillman not age between 1969 and 1991? He still looks almost the same as his Flying Burrito Brothers days.

  • @hotburrito1 it must be that Southwest livinf but your right he still looks good

  • @hotburrito1 What do you mean? He doesn't look any older than his Byrds days, give him a break.

  • @hotburrito1 I remember having read that he became a triathlete in the early 1980s. One reason, perhaps. He still looks purrty as evidenced in the LOC lecture video from Dec 2008.

  • Chris Hillman looks 35!

  • All I know is this is over the top...

  • I can't believe these guys lost the tempo at the end!

The guitar is totally screwed up by the end. Not to mention out of tune.

I love this band, and remember seeing this show when it first came out and going "What the F..k"! are they all drunk or something?

And Emy sounds like she has not even a clue where the harmony is. She keeps singing Herb's part an octave above. And not exactly in tune.

I love this band, and to keep their good name alive, this performance should be lost to the ages....

  • Just forward to the last 20 seconds, listen to it, then start it over right away.

The tempo change is QUITE drastic.

Especially when you have to keep it up to match Jorgensen's delay for the solos.

  • how is the guitar "totally screwed up?" i will agree about emys harmony put the guitar and tempo are perfectly fine. jorgenson is using a delay pedal and tapping thats all. it is perfectly in tune.

  • I know he's using a delay. The band slows down at the end and the delay isn't in tempo. That's why it's screwed up.

  • oh nevermind your right sorry my bad

  • That picker just happens to be John Jorgenson...an amazing Musician & all around great person! I first met him when our rockabilly bands played together back in ye old 1980's... his band was the Shakin' Snakes and mine was Jumpin' Bones. He is a jazz poet with a guitar.

  • great

  • Hi there! Who needs that fucking picker?

  • john jorgenson

  • Hey Blue,

I saw the DRB in Freemont, Michigan at the Gerber National Baby Food Festival. It was 1991 or 1992, I think. Free concert, too! It's a shame Chris Hillman does not get more recognition for what he does. Top quality stuff every time.

  • That's Mark O'Connor on fiddle, too. And, by the way, John is playing a G & L Asat, not a Fender Telecaster.

Saw the Desert Rose Band n concert one time. They blew me away. Made me go out and buy a Gibson J-200 guitar after seeing them. :-)

  • Hi WMCCDOUG,

Could you tell me where you saw them and when?

    Cheers!

    Bluecountry

  • Wow, that's some nice intro pickin!

  • Great! Thanks for uploading this great piece!

  • I wish I could find them do this song on Austin City Limits. This is good, but that one's better. Jorgensen's guitar is hard to hear on this one and his arrangement on ACL is better.

  • They were soo good what happend, awsome harmony, and excellent guitar work.

  • Looks like Jerry Douglas on dobro to me.

  • That's the fabulous John Jorgenson on the Telecaster lead guitar. He's also a member of the "Hellecasters" and the lead riff / intro of this song is "borrowed" from the Hellecasters' rendition of "Orange Blossom Special". I believe that is Al Perkins on dobro and Jay Dee Maness on steel. (Two great steel artists for the price of one)

  • This is an great song but they have to many strummers and not enough pickers.

  • One of the very best i ' ve seen from " The Shop "

the man ( Herb Pedersen ? ) drives and seems to take care of his Tele like a ... Ferrariiii !!! : )
