Look buddy get an education. Some FN have signed treaties but the majority of FN in BC have not. We didn't sign any land away. My mother was forced to intergrate and it didn't work. She was forced into residential school and had no choice. The RCMP made sure of that . Care to open that can of worms. As far as being second class citizens actually we are but because we are prohibited from living on the our land utilizing our resources. If you think the INDIAN ACT offers special rights think again.
I am not going to defend the way your family was treated as far as the schools go I agree they were a terrible thing.
But Buddy you do get special treatment in some ways, tax exempt status, hunting, right to rule your land outside the laws of the local land use bylaws but in other you have been screwed, but that happens when your over taken by a new society. unfair as it is. First Nations heritage and culture was not democracy. Tribal chief rule is basically monarchy. They say they want to resurrect their culture and heritage, that the white man did not have agreements regarding land that was not ceded. The reality is they had no written language, they had no recognition of ownership, many were nomadic and the Haida and Inuit were very warlike.
The Native indian population is on a tremendous decline through means of suicide, drug abuse, murder etc. Soon, the natives will cease to exist. THANK GOD.

Because when we conquered them back in the 1800's we did not force them to be part of the new society instead (through our stupidity) we put them in to a no win situation on a reserve. biggest mistake we made was to not integrate the native people in to our society vs. segregating them and making them a second class citizen's. they have no claim to the land, they signed the treaties (unfair as they were).

Look buddy get an education. Some FN have signed treaties but the majority of FN in BC have not. We didn't sign any land away. My mother was forced to intergrate and it didn't work. She was forced into residential school and had no choice. The RCMP made sure of that . Care to open that can of worms. As far as being second class citizens actually we are but because we are prohibited from living on the our land utilizing our resources. If you think the INDIAN ACT offers special rights think again.

First Nations heritage and culture was not democracy. Tribal chief rule is basically monarchy. They say they want to resurrect their culture and heritage, that the white man did not have agreements regarding land that was not ceded. The reality is they had no written language, they had no recognition of ownership, many were nomadic and the Haida and Inuit were very warlike.

The same goes on here in Toronto, there are lots of people, programs and groups that reach out to the homeless and drug addicts, but these people do not want help, they don't want to work, they don't care about education and they don't take any accountability.
