I find it odd how you seem to think eliminating heterosexism from state laws regarding marriage will lead to legalizing polygamy and incest. Brothers and sisters getting married leads to deformed and retarded children, therefor it is harmful. Polygamy leads to the whole "Why does she have four moms but I only have one" question and we would have to complete re-write the system of tax benefits to fit 3 and 4 way marriages. My point is that those who believe "hetero-only marriage" is a matter of inequality should look at their own biases on who and who should not get married. Wherever you draw the line (polygamy for example), those men and women who like that type of marriage will say your views espouse inequality. And a brother and sister who marry but don't have kids can say the same thing.
I personally dont see it as inequality when for Polygamy we would have rewrite everything in our laws and tax systems regarding marriage, while as our constitution doesnt say anything for or against same sex couples, And I suppose for incest couples we would have to make them sign some contract swearing they will never have intercourse or somehow force infertility so it doesnt lead to children, which is really unrealistic and homosexual couples can have perfectly normal families, no comparison.

U should really do ur research. That entire thing about parents losing rights is propaganda. In CA, the school district determines what it will teach in sex education. There is also a law that requires schools to notify parents that sex education will be taught and the parents must be given the right to pull their kids out of sex education. Our school's Core Values are: RESPECT. INTEGRITY. DIVERSITY. We are an economically, socially, culturally, ethnically, and spiritually diverse community. Part of the learning curve is how we get along and find commonality even when we don't always understand each other. It speaks to the issues of bullying. It speaks to the issues underpinning discrimination. There is no "gay curriculum." The issues facing our education system are so much bigger than that. But that's another discussion.

As someone who's involved with the PTA - I can tell you right now, no one is teaching anyone "how to be gay". What they are teaching children is respect for all families. This is not about equal rights. California gives gay partnerships ALL the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities as it gives marriages. It's all in the CA Family Code § 297.5.
The chief aim of marriage is the building of families. Children are best served in homes with both a mother and a father. Though this is not always possible, the State should continue to recognize the nuclear family as the best environment for raising children.
If you truly believed in liberty, you would not define it as only allowed by a certain group. Prop 8 simply restricts rights and freedom only to those who are "like us." There was a time in this country when mixed marriages were illegal and even claimed to be un-Christian, because the majority of voters said so. If government and the courts do not protect the rights of the gay minority, then which minority is next to lose their rights?
If every kid deserves a Mom and dad, then single Parenting, being a widow, legal custody for only one parent, non parental legal guardianship, foster parenting, and the right to give your child up for adoption should be illegal. This way, relatives Cannot care for a child, and parent who commit crimes cant go to jail, cus kids will be required to have a mom & a dad. No on 8!

And, Kemi, kids aren't born with prejudice. No one is born anti-gay. You weren't, I wasn't, no baby is. Babies and toddlers don't instinctively hate or fear or dislike homosexuality. Children have to be *taught* those things. Of course children from LGBT families are not prejudiced. We weren't taught to be. I think that's a *good* thing, but obviously anti-gay people feel differently. But the evidence is not on your side because prejudice is not natural or automatic.

I find it odd how you seem to think eliminating heterosexism from state laws regarding marriage will lead to legalizing polygamy and incest. Brothers and sisters getting married leads to deformed and retarded children, therefor it is harmful. My point is that those who believe "hetero-only marriage" is a matter of inequality should look at their own biases on who and who should not get married. Wherever you draw the line (polygamy for example), those men and women who like that type of marriage will say your views espouse inequality. And a brother and sister who marry but don't have kids can say the same thing.

My dads got married last year, and my younger brothers and I were there to stand up and support them. There is also a law that requires schools to notify parents that sex education will be taught and the parents must be given the right to pull their kids out of sex education. You tell me where in the entire one-sentence text of Prop 8 there was anything that effects school curriculum or anywhere in the existing codes that require anything to be taught about marriage. Issues of homosexuality will come up in school, thanks to an increasingly enlightened society beginning to emerge from the dark ages, and Prop 8 does absolutely nothing to change that. This is why the argument was a lie. The only armor I see is the one protecting your brain from new ideas.

We should not place upon the state a constitutional mandate to discriminate. If same-sex couples cannot marry, they are also denied a number of rights that go along with it. Vote no on 8, no on discrimination. Support equality.

Our school's Core Values are: RESPECT. INTEGRITY. DIVERSITY. We are an economically, socially, culturally, ethnically, and spiritually diverse community. Part of the learning curve is how we get along and find commonality even when we don't always understand each other. It speaks to the issues of bullying. It speaks to the issues underpinning discrimination. There is no "gay curriculum." The issues facing our education system are so much bigger than that. But that's another discussion.

its not required in schools to teach about marggiage BUT 96% of schools do and that means alot of little kids learning that being gay is okay. and thats just wrong. O and by the way the parents have nothing to say about it. the kids belong, not to the parents, but to the states. all this if you vote no on 8 will happen.

BUT we have to take into consideration that gay education is being taught in our schools. In my opinion I think sexuality in gerneral shouldnt be tuaght in elementary. let little kids be kids! geez. But in middle school in high school kids begin to wonder. Some can date that young too.
Im a gay woman and plan to marry and plan to have kids, lot of them! but I want schools to teach my kids to read and write and have options in high school for clubs about God, gays, dance and art.

As someone who's involved with the PTA - I can tell you right now, no one is teaching anyone "how to be gay". What they are teaching children is respect for all families. We have children who are being brought up by a mom and dad, or divorced parents, single moms and single dads, by grandparents, and yes...two moms or two dads. You can't "teach" anyone how to be gay any more than you can "teach" someone how to be straight.

I have a PROBLEM with that...not the marriage part. So, yes.....its getting into the schools, that they say WILL not happen, yet it has. Here's the catch. You have to VOTE NO to ensure the legal rights. IF you VOTE YES on 8, you will be eliminating rights. It's confusing: VOTE NO ON 8 to uphold the fundamental rights of marriage for all.

What a great video! I find it amusing when people think if Prop 8 passes, that their children will be shielded from homosexuality. "Their motive is to protect children from homosexuality?" The worst thing you can do to a child is LIE to them. It arms them with a foundation of intolerance and ignorance. Give them the facts (in language that's age appropriate of course)and let them develop into tolerant, responsible, educted, and informed young people who will think for themselves. NO ON PROP 8!!

Thank you to those voting No on 8. Please say a prayer for us. My fear is that some of gays and lesbians may decide to end their life if these civil liberties are taken away. There is nothing more dehumanizing than having your civil rights voted away. Rights concerning God and country. This rejection I fear could take a few more people over the top. Most straights don't understand our struggle with being rejected by so many. It takes lots of courage. Some don't make it through. Vote No.

This is not about equal rights. California gives gay partnerships ALL the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities as it gives marriages. It's all in the CA Family Code § 297.5.
The chief aim of marriage is the building of families. Children are best served in homes with both a mother and a father. Though this is not always possible, the State should continue to recognize the nuclear family as the best environment for raising children.
Every kid deserves a mom and a dad!

If you truly believed in liberty, you would not define it as only allowed by a certain group. Prop 8 simply restricts rights and freedom only to those who are "like us." There was a time in this country when mixed marriages were illegal and even claimed to be un-Christian, because the majority of voters said so. If every kid deserves a Mom and dad, then single Parenting, being a widow, legal custody for only one parent, non parental legal guardianship, foster parenting, and the right to give your child up for adoption should be illegal. This way, relatives Cannot care for a child, and parent who commit crimes cant go to jail, cus kids will be required to have a mom & a dad. No on 8!
