Let's give Mr. Shishido Baiken a more contemporary name: Silly Bacon. He is the equivalent of Farmer John the Big Bacon of an American Wrestler. Well, too bad this silly bacon ain't no match of Musashi's chop chop sword. The lesson: if you name yourself a bacon, knife will chop you up. That's just the fact.

Have you read A Book of Five RIngs? (Miyamoto Musashi) You do not need him to become strong, you only need to practice. No, not in the DVD. There were English subtitles when it was broadcast in the U.S. in 1984.

To follow the story, you can read the book by Eiji Yoshikawa. The video series follows the novel very closely.

@WarrenChu000 miyamoto musashi novel translated into English is not full complete translation of original Japanese text.English translation cut lot of chapters from original japanese text.i compare both text and found out very disappointed.even 'Taiko' novel is cut lot of chapters.why cant they translate full text into English?

Please, someone who knows japanese sword fighting...can you answer this. How come everyone crosses their legs when they move? As a boxer and a wrestler, whenever someone crossed their legs I won right away, they were not able to manuver and I defeated them. Would not the swordsman loose mobility and the ability to control range once their legs were crossed?

you're exactly right, that's why they really don't do it, what you see here is hollywoodized in a way, although a few sword techniques under taijutsu do use crossing legs as a good way to spin it's still a really bad plan (i've taken kendo and am somewhat of a shugyosha myself)

The term "shugyosha" also can been understood like someone who is training, but it's a very romantic word.

Wait a minute.. is that Oko in on the side? Or is that Baiken's wife? In the book his wife has a baby but musashi doesn't fight baiken and kills him till baiken is with Oko.

That is Baiken's wife and this is the first of two duels Musashi has with Baiken. Later, Musashi meets Baiken again and kills him in Oko's presence.

In the book, Musashi fights Baiken only once. In that version, Baiken tries to kill Musashi while he is asleep in this part of the story. Musashi senses something is not right when he notices the baby's toy pinwheel is turning and makes a getaway into the night.

Yeah I was trying to recall where in the book they fought, but my recollection was just as you write here. What stuck in Musashi's mind when he was talking to Baiken is that Baiken said a man has two hands so why not fight with both?

My favorite rendition of this fight is the one in vol 12 of the manga Vagabond. And Musashi fans should pick it up.

Agreed. Vagabond is not only my favoit manga, it is by far one of the best... ''versions'' of Musashi's story.

I don't think so. The autor changed so bad Kojiro turning it into a deaf. That changes completely Kojiro's original personality from the novel. And that's only an example.

Also, the autor put a lot of unnecesary sex scenes that have nothing to do with the original novel. I hate most of "mangakas" are obsessed with sex.

But that what it makes it more interreting!

It is HIS version of Kojiro! And that Kojiro isn't just the young handsome narcist like in a lot of Musashi's stories.

And the mangaka is not obsessed with sex, the rape scenes are supposed to show how hard the characters pasts have been, and make the story somewhat more realistic.

...however, i DO agree there are too many sex parts... and i too hate mangakas who are obsessed with sex.

Not only the rape scenes. There are a bunch of unnecesary sex scenes, like that one with Ittousai and a prostitute, Matahachi with the inn girl, and so on... And I heared that the author had problems with "Vagabond" for showing children sex in the scene when Tsujikaze rape a girl (probably very young too) being a kid.

i read the manga too but at the fight scene with baiken there was a flashback of baikens in the age of 12 years and his brother crushed his balls i cant understand why^^ could u hlp

You have to remember, when Tenma crushed his balls he was raping a woman. Even though Tenma was the leader of the bandits, even he thought Baiken (or at the time Kohei) was too out of control. You castrate an ox to tame it. Same idea here, pretty much.

Kohei and Baiken are completely different people fyi. And the manga states that Tenma crushed Kohei's testicles not cuz he was out of control, but to ensure that he would "own" Kohei all to himself. Tenma actually lusted after his own brother, sick asshole that he was.

u sure that kohei and baiken aren't the same person cause i just read the manga so i dont know how it is in the roman or movie and in the manga köhei is living as baiken after get defeedet by kojiro and killing the real baiken
