  • It seems the more I listen to this song the more I want to listen to it. How ironic that such a warm and gentle soul can emote music in such a powerful and humbling fashion.

  • Wonder is this song about the walking path in Oxford England, or can it be translated as Addison's (son of adam's) Walk (journey) maybe journey of mankind, or something, I don't know.

  • @sirjackson5 It's titled after the former. Addison's Walk was a favorite place of C.S. Lewis. Phil is a big fan of Lewis. The song Brother Jack is named for him and the album's name, Beyond Nature, was inspired by Lewis.

  • I used to own this album but gave it away to my friend. I want another one....

  • This video should be flagged cuz it has so much RAPE in it!!!!!

  • luckily this video is only about 1 minute and a half... otherwise I could pass out listening to this such breathtaking tune...

    it's a glance of heaven music, I guess :-)

  • The first and BETTER Andy McKee!!

  • I saw Phil play the 'Beyond Nature' album in about 1989. It changed my life and guitar playing. A work of genius by an extraordinary musician.

    mrdogted

  • Incredible is the only word that fits :)

  • cool.

  • This song reminds me a little of Chris Procter crossed with Hedges yet its still all Phil.

  • One of God's stunning impartations to Phil Keaggy.....

  • this is my favorite cd phil has put out. amazing.

  • Easy to see where so many tap-happy guitarists of today got their inspiration from. Keaggy is often imitated but never duplicated.

  • Thank you Phil. Your music puts me in a good place. God bless you.

  • C.S. Lewis was inspired, in part, by J.R.R. Tolkien. But only with the Chronicles of Narnia. His theological works, his science fictions stories, and his poetry, he wrote of his own accord. Tolkien had little to do with the vast majority of Lewis' writings, although it was through Tolkien that Lewis became a Christian, which obviously inspired his main body of work. The Narnia series is only a small portion of the immense offering that Lewis made to literature.

  • it would be interesting to hear him make an album with lyle mays. few musicians could accompany this type of guitar without getting in the way

  • I'd love to hear and album with him Antoine Dufour.

  • Phil's getting quite a bit older now (aren't we all).. I remember around this time he said it was a special place in his life, and that a lot of his best music came from that time. Sort of makes you wish we could pick a place in our lives.. and just stay there for a while longer.

  • No one should be allowed to be as good as Phil on the guitar, it just isn't fair to the rest of us

  • goodygoody23, God gave him that gift to share with the rest of the world

  • I'm so glad that he dropped his addiction to heroin early, so that he could share that gift. He woulda turned into another sad story like Hendrix

  • this is a great song it has always had a special place in my heart and musical ear beyond nature is one of the many examples of this mans acoustic genius

  • Wow, I'm a guitarist and whenever I watch Phil go at it on guitar like this, it takes my confidence down a whole level just because of what the man can do on a guitar haha. But I've always admired how he does that slapping technique that I've seen him do before at about 0:52. If there's anybody that could gove me some tips in how to do something like that, that would be great.

  • Great feeling,touch and sound!

  • God gave him a good gift!

  • Song inspired by C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien's friendship if I'm not mistaken?

hence the name: a road they walked near oxford many evenings talking about faith.

  • C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien knew each other?

  • they were best friends. they started a club at oxford called the inklings.

Tolkien brought Lewis into understanding & embracing of the Christian faith.

Its a really cool story, search it up. There's a few good documentaries to.

  • @flimflam0069

Yup, good friends. C.S. Lewis used to be an Atheist, actually.

  • yah. C.S. Lewis was inspired to write his books from J.R.R. Tolkien ^.^

  • I think it's the other way around because c.s. lewis was inspired by God and the bible, not the lord of the rings.

  • Beautiful. Thank you mobile4357. I started listening to Phil in 1978; one of the all time greats on guitar.

  • I love ya brother Phil! Keep lifting up Jesus!

  • i have had this tape since 92 but ther is one song i am dyin 2 see and the name of the song has got sumfin 2 do wif da weather?

  • It could be "I feel the winds of God today". I have the CD and that's the only song mentioning weather.

  • C#G#C#FA#C# that is, if you want it to be in tune with this.

Playing it, I'm finding, is a different matter.

  • Tuning is DADF#BD (1/2 step down..you do the math)

  • i give up. i need to learn this song xD

  • i love this guy

  • best meditative song for me...thanks!

  • whats the tuning for this?

  • DADF#BD tuned a half step down. T I see you commented on Jesse Wall's version of this here - he plays the full version there. This video and Jesse's should help you out a lot. Also phil has a DVD called "Acoustic guitar style" that has a lesson on this.

  • this song is actually not as hard as you think

on my other youtube account i will have the alternate tuning version shorlty

  • Music is the Celebration of the Soul!

    Rejoice Phil, Rejoice!!

  • I have played for twenty four years and I don't get HOW he does it?

  • Not bad for a guy who can only count to nine, eh? 8-)

  • Holy shit my name is Addison

  • Holy shit, my name is walk.

  • i love this guy! he;s my favorite guitarist (besides my Dad LOL)

  • i wish it was as easy at he makes it look...amazing

  • *sniff* beautiful, simply beautiful.

  • Very talented indeed.

  • I'll be seeing Phil tonight in Wheaton, Il. :) It's always a treat to see this guy perform. It's like having the chance to watch a great artist create a painting or sculpture. You don't often get the chance to observe greatness like this.

  • gosh i would love to see him live. Did he do any acoustic stuff like this?

  • usually he only does acoustic stuff

  • Yes he has traditionally done solo acoustic shows for a long time - full band/electric guitar/rock and roll shows are harder to come by. But this one guy with one guitar and all his tricks and talent... might as well be a chorus of guitarists with him. They were actually taping the concert we saw for a dvd so perhaps that'll be available soon!

  • I like the dove inlays on Phil's Olson (Olson is a small plant in St. Paul). I own a Takamine acoustic with a cedar top. But Phil redefines guitar playing big time!

  • wow! which Guitar is this?...

  • This man is blessed. I can't believe I first got into hearing him on a POD album of all things.

  • He has the best accoustic tone there is.

  • Not only is he amazing that guitar is also.

  • Where can I find this song on CD? What album?

  • Beyond Nature is one of the most amazing instrumental acoustic albums I have ever heard.

I absolutely recommend this album to anyone with any sense of taste in music

  • @AcousticBruce whats the ablums name?

  • @jazzrockblues95 Beyond Nature. It would be a mistake not to own that one.

  • I found it on a musical tribute to CS Lewis

  • He is so awesome

  • Everytime I watch this I'm giving it 5 stars.

  • He's simply amazing.

  • well,basically,

Nobody should feel bad because phil is this good. See, was doing this sort of thing before he was born, having sat in with a few cherubs here and there. in other words, he's got a head start.

  • i have never, ever, ever, ever, ever been driven to tears by music before i heard this song. i mean, its not like im sobbing or anything <.< maybe i just got some sand in my eye.... -sniff-

  • Phil does more with a guitar in 1:31 than some players do their entire lives

  • What's this video from? I'd like to pick up a copy...

  • It's from his 'Acoustic Guitar Style' video. Definitely worth purchasing.

  • Phil makes me not want to play guitar ever again...

  • greatest player ever

  • Keaggy is the man!

  • This song is on the "Beyond Nature" album, an all instrumental compilation.

    Keaggy is the man!

  • One of my all time favorite albums

  • Loverly.

  • Beautiful guitar player

  • I wish this song was at least 3 minutes longer.

  • one of the most beautiful pieces ever written along with elevation music by don ross and i really like crown by justin king too

  • Just beautiful! Thanks for posting it!

  • Beautiful...just beautiful.

  • This is amazing, he is a class all alone !!

  • Do you have any vids of him singing? I remember my husband had an album of his years ago and his voice was so peaceful.

  • nice

  • It seems like theres a lot of confusion on the tuning. In the booklet that comes with the CD, it says the tuning is DADF#BD.

  • Great!

  • Comment removed

  • the IMAGE? are you really that shallow?

  • making music is about tension and release emotions Keaggy's playing flows from the heart and that is why it touches hears soul.AWESOME!!!

  • OK I think I learned the beautiful harmonic bit. Actually the tuning is slightly different from what I said. I think its C# A# F C# G# C. Which is drop D for both E strings, and tune the G-string down to an F# then tune everything down half a step and you got it. Its a pain to do but its worth it. The lovely harmonics are played:

220100 as the chord with the left hand and

xx12x12 12 as the harmonic played with the right hand slap. Have fun

  • why complicate it? just use the indicated tuning set a half step down.

  • Beautiful use of harmonic in the melody. I love that, I am off to learn that right now.. hold on.. whats the tuning?

  • I know for sure that 'The Reunion' is in double drop D tuning. I.e., both E strings tuned down to D. You might try that, but I haven't got my guitar on me at the moment. Would love to play this to...it looks like one of the more manageable Keaggy tracks.

  • cheers for that you are correct, however the entire guitar is lowered half a step too. See its dropped down to Db or C# whatever you prefer

  • wow that was great, makes me want to get that good

  • ! Some more videos from the Keaggy Acoustic Style video? Forsooth! This, and 'County Down' are really very good, but The Reunion remains my favourite...an absolutely incredible video. However, these are very welcome here. Thanks.
