the pre-heater was for using fuels like Kerosene. Those tractors had 2 fuel tanks. One for the gasoline (petrol) which was smaller and used to warm up the engine and then when shutting down, to flush the kero out of the carb. Back in the 20s and 30s kerosene was only 2-4 cents a gallon vs 10 cents for gasoline (as my dad recalled.)
i have a dc 8 from what i hear that is a verry rare tractor but before i can start restoring it i gotta get it in the shop but i have to get a new rim but i cant find one ive ben looking for about 2 or 3 years and still cant find a rim if u could help that would be awsome ps. nice looking tractor
It is not a manifold cover, it is a black painted pre-heating chamber for petroleum (I don't know if petroleum is the exact and correct translation of what we call petroleum). In that time petrol was not used in Europe, so our petroleum had to be pre-heated.
