alpine 750w psu (probably not 750w as cheap crap lol)
connexiant broadband modem
160gb sata drive
8 in 1 card reader
i am only using the phenom 2 untill i get something cheaper like a old school RM school computer from ebay i am using this stuff because its what i have lying around and i am using a homehub with another ISP and its crap so i really need a router do u think it will work ok
hi i have a mentor connexiant internal pci broadband modem in my area we only get 8meg and thats how much it can take
this runs on some linux and windows xp and windows vista but windows 7 with alot of fiddling with drivers and stuff
basicly do you think i could install this in the router i am planning on building so that the router also plugs directly into the phone line and is my direct internet connection with no external adapters
because i can have this pci modem in my pc and have direct
Doman.com sucks fucking balls. they wouldnt even let me set up a site cause my password was innappropriate. and then after getting passed that.. they said if it had any content relating to hacking i couldnt have the website.. which was gonna be a blog... but they will host these guys?!?! Fuck Domain.com i hate those homo's
If anything will help you getting a better connection, lower latency and better gaming experience online it is NOT USING WIRELESS. With todays broadband speeds reaching 30-100 Mbps you will always bottleneck it with a crappy wifi connection. Use cables for gods sake. I can't even get my 32Mbps trough my wifi router when I'm right next to it.
This is absolutely stupid, cutting off IDE on the longer end, lets use a AC/DC converter with no over voltage, current, temp, and all that protection. Oh hey lets also be a total moron while we are at it. I would advise you to stop trying to be creative and leave the computer stuff to people with a real idea on what they are doing as you seem to not know what you are doing.
I built one on wood.. Trick for the HDD is scan it so u have a template, or use a pencel and punch a hole in paper to mount the drive.. I turned an xbox into a pc with a small board years ago,.. Can send u a video if you'd like :)

It's generally considered bad practice to use 4.2.2.2 (or any of it's relatives 4.4.2.[1-6] ) for DNS resolution. You should stick to your ISPs DNS servers, Google's 8.8.8.8 public DNS server, or a service such as OpenDNS that is designed for widescale DNS resolution. While 4.2.2.2 is open to the public for testing, it's not meant for permanent use on your network and it's private providers are under no obligation to keep making the service available. Let's not take advantage by abusing it.
Dude.Proof that parallel universes exist: The Sneaker Pimps Six Feet Under plays incessantly in my head when I build too, BTW what's up with the Wireless Video? Great Vid.
should cut a piece of paper the size of the acrylic .... put the paper aligned on the hd according to where you want it. then place paper back on acrylic and drill /..... i work in that god forsaken field lol
I have a tiny motherboard that looks like the one you showed, but it has a pentium 4 processor, will it be compatible with that power connector or does it need a full fledged power supply?
This is a very intersting show, but I think you should give me information on the components used. Maybe have a list of all the stuff you talked about in the description?
Ive been subscribed to this a long time but never actually watched the shows. i actually like this one. You guys should have your own youtube channel.
Im actually working on a car pc system. It uses 7 computers and in the back 6 of them are stacked. I had six thin client cases laying around, so I recycled them and stacked them that way. I used The INTEL ATOM Johnston board and paired them with 2.5 HDD with 20GB, 2GB RAM. They are powered with the 3 M4-ATXs'.
I was looking to buy a new router, but this will probably be better and I think im going to make it... one question though... how will you hook up more devices through ethernet ports, do you need to buy a wired router? is there some kind of 4-10 ethernet port splitter that you attach to the other end of "green" card?
You could have gotten a piece of paper and a pencil to scribble in the areas where the holes are on the HDD and presto! You have a template. You can also outline the HDD and cut out after getting the hole alignment.
So... my modem already acts as the router (pretty shitty, too, can't even keep a steady stream over wi-fi), how could I use this with it? :::::::::: Disable all firewalls and security on the modem and connect it with this home-made router which then connects to a switch that connects to my devices?
i think what darren should build a htpc + backup + firewall next and make it all low power to operate 24/7 ideal for under a tv; recording shows with a program timer and backing up more than one pc by; waking it up at a certain time, backing up, then makeing it shutdown for use the next day..
That would probably be the ultimate one box solution. obviously needing more than 2tb and probably the socket p core2duo with some compatible motherboard that i spoted on newegg yesterday...
@dlouis95 there is no such thing as mini atx. ther is mico atx or mini itx...
a powerfull micro atx motherboard + processor setup is evga's x58 micro motherboard with intel's i7 980x that will run you about $1,300 just for the mobo&cpu.
If you want to go cheap- get the ASUS M4A88TD-M/USB3 for the motherboard and the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T. that will cost about $450
both setups are extreamly fast, i would actually recommend going amd considering you could buy a 30" monitor with your savings!
Thanks for the tips. I was looking for another linux solution for a router. This one is great, VPN and other neat items.
