People born and raised from Toronto, Canada have the same accent. A friend from California pointed this out to me and said that we elongate our 'A's and 'O's the way Cali people do. Who would have thought?!
Yeah, the one thing I never liked about my home in Berkeley was the boring accents, also 9 is called a Rainbow, though it only happens on a random April or January day every x years.
Not to rain on your parade, Cali, but out of (around) 15 English accents I've heard just recently, Alabama takes the cake. They're the coolest, most casual tribe I ever saw and heard. Thanks for sharing. :)
CA is very neutral, although Southern CA has some inflections of dialect...some stereotypical Surfer Dude/Valley Girl elements, some East LA/Latino inflections, some South LA gangstaisms, etc. Sometimes they overlap, like ending the last word in a sentence sounding like a question? That's a neat hybrid of the first two. Sometimes we get weird little bits that you don't know where they came from; like we all use "No worries" instead of "No Problem." We picked that up from UK/Aussies somehow:-)
People who live in california don't particularly have an "accent". There are just certain things that we say that other places may not say.... Thats pretty much it lol like sun shower haha and to whoever said it doesn't rain here in cali when the sun is shinning, it actually does. Not all of california has the same kind of weather. We even get snow sometimes here in southern california lol
she has a fairly neutral accent for a cali-girl :P I'm from New York, not the city, the state people seem to think doesnt exsist, and we have an accent too, I hear it every day of my life, and it drives me crazy, i guess i was just born without one.... not sure how it works.
i'm from north carolina and this doesn't sound like too much of an accent to me. of course the sayings are different, like i call "shopping carts" buggies, and my "grandparents" are mamaw and papaw and "hey guys" is the infamous "hey yall" etc etc.
The object of speach is to communicate. The number of local people communicating in a given area are far greater than the out of area interlopers. So in order to make yourself the most understood to the most people, adapt and speak like the locals. Therefore local pronuciation is the most realitively correct pronunciation.
@Brynja8 It's basically just a northwestern accent. From about Sacramento up to the tip of Washington, it's essentially the same accent. I live in Norcal and I sound EXACTLY like that, and when I grew up near Seattle everyone sounded like that as well.
yeah i guess this is how california accents sound.. i'm from cali, and i don't think we have accents (unless someone talks like a valley-girl)... Idk how to explain how I talk LOL
9. What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?

I find it hilarious that people are trying to use "hella" in the comments and they don't even use it right.
