i would pick united over american any day but i also dislike delta cuz they did me and my family really wrong in ATL which is thier hub its looney if ur going more east of ATL u will have to land thier and make a connection cuz we were going to florida and they had us connect there and when they plane has light problems they canceled they flight and said we will book u for tomorrow but didnt help us getting a room or ofter other way home they just said heres ur fliight for tomorrow good night
what time of the day was this shot morning or evening also thats the reason why i like to fly out of ontario cuz of the take overs are much smoother u dont have to worry about sharp lefts and hard drops from landing..i never did like the 757s they are just longer planes they arent wide and spaceish like u would think they are..767s are cool the 400s they are nice wide body but 757 are over powered feels like a rollercoaster if i wanted that i would have went to knotts berry farm.united its cool
I think they should consider lengthening the runway a little bit towards the ocean about 1000-1500 feet. Some of that land there isn't even used. It would make it easier and it would allow some small and light 767s to arrive there, easing traffic at LAX and Ontario.
what does Ontario have anything to do with the traffic at LAX?...there would be no point in lengening the runway...the traffic at LAX would not be reduced that much if this runway was lengthened 1000-1500 ft....it would be the most pointless thing in FAA/Aviation history!
What I was saying is that the longer runway would allow for heavier aircraft to land there. Thus easing traffic at the bigger airports. I mean, LAX is clogged as is. Look at Burbank, for example. That was meant to be a GA airport, and now it's a hub for Southwest and Jetblue. It's sad to say this, but Van Nuys could turn into an Orange County eventually :(
there's something to be said for the 757 being a much larger aircraft as well as proximity to the engine (with respect to noise). Let alone John Wayne has noise restrictions so the aircraft has to climb very quickly- level out over the rich peoples homes and then 3-5 miles out to sea, continue on to cruising altitude.
The SNA takeoff profile on a 757 is: Takeoff at Maximum thrust with flaps set at 15 or 20 degrees, target pitch 20 to 25 degrees,do not exceed V2 + 15(a climb speed), at precisely 800' select reduced climb thrust and adjust pitch to maintain V2 + 15, start turn to 175 degrees at precisely 1 DME, at 1500' accelerate to Clean Maneuvering Speed while retracting the flaps, at 3000' accelerate to 250 knots, at 5000' or 6 DME select normal climb thrust.
oh and regarding the 250kt below 10000, the speed restriction is complied with as the vertical path is adjusted when the engines are in climb thrust mode.
About the thrust reduction, it is done at 1500ft, that's the way most airlines work and it's done for two reasons namely for saving the engines and the noise abatement procedures in force at most airports. There are Standard Instrument Departure routes out of some airports in the US and pretty much every other airport in the rest of the world the same goes for Standard Arrival Routes. These routes are in force mainly for noise abatement.
I've flown out of SNA (John Wayne) many times. It's quite a rush, when they reduce power in the engines, you can feel the plane drop slightly. Excellent video of the Orange County coast. I'm proud to say I live there.
several of you are incorrect.....there is a noise ordinance over Newport Beach, therefore a turn to 175 from 190 is done and reduction of full power is done to stay below the requ'd decibal level. this is all done at approx 1500 feet.
They cut down the power to the engines at around 1000 ft, it is a noise ordinance procedure but if they didnt tell you about it you would have to shit yourself.
This guy has it right. There a 250kts speed restriction up to 10000ft and they throttle back to comply. Most likely engaging the autothrottle at that point.
Yes, he is correct about the 250 under 10. However, that is not what this has to do with. Depending on the particular airline procedures. Cutback is around 800 to 1000 AGL. After rotation and clearing the runway you climb at 20+ degrees on the HSI. When you reduce climb power your climbing at about 300 feet per min. After the reduction it is so important to peg that airspeed to the knot for the climb.
Tracon dude, the HSI is a Horizontal Situation Indicator and it doesn't tell anything about pitch angle. The Attitude Indicator gives pitch information.
all planes in the US have go by that rule, no matter what the state or ordinance. nobody shits themselves, unless they are you who's scared over a slight thrust reduction.
I flew on a 757 to hnl out of san first class, wasn't to thrilled about a norrow body plane over the pacific, after doing it i'm not botherd by it anymore
Really? I heard Newport denied them the right to allow any new runways or runway expansions to take place.
If they are allowed to extend the runway I can't imagine taking off out of John Wayne Airport on a 5900ft runway in a B767 with a steep take-off. But I guess if a b747 only needs a 7000ft runway to take off a B767 could handle an almost 6000ft runway.
Well all I know of is the plan is moving ahead with phase I, which is to expand the parking and terminal facilities, but i suppose that doesn't require a runway extension. All I know is that it is a very busy airport which needs the expansion if the areas around it are going to make any sort of expansion.
@babolo this airport can accomodate a 767, in fact an A300 and A310 from FEDEX use this airport. The trick is with the short runway and noise ordinance you have to compensate fuel/passenger weight for distance. The airport does not demand a 767 with the proximity of Los Angeles and it's international gateway
@grassroot3 Wow such an old comment I made. I guess you are right about LAX. A 767 would probably only be useful at John Wayne if an airline needed more passengers out of SNA. But from what I Remember John Wayne is only allowed to have 10million passengers a year.
@babolo Oh I have no idea about that rule. I just know that with the amount of operation out of SNA that a 767 doesn't justify the demand. Even years ago Aloha operated a 737-7 from there to Honolulu and even that didn't warrant a "heavy." Delta has even scaled back it's operation from Atlanta. It used to send 3 757's out there everyday of the week and now it is mostly run with 737's.
@grassroot3 Yea. I remember reading about it a few years ago, John Wayne was given the option of either renovating the airport, or increasing their passenger cap. They took the expansion plan, but Im not 100% sure if the passenger cap has increased a little.
Yes, that is from the first class cabin. The long line is because of the 7AM takeoff curfew...the airlines scheduled those flights to depart between 6:35 and 7:00AM. ATC stacks them all up around the runway; we were scheduled to take off at 6:45. And yes, they should either build another runway or extend the one there because takeoffs can be pretty brutal. There is a new $40 million plan to expand the airport, but the runway only gets a 200ft. extension to allow aircraft as large as Boeing 767s.
i flew into john wayne,.. really steep take offs and hard droppin landing i dont like it at all

Just an observation, but I feel that the engines on Boeing 737-700's are much quieter. Don't you think?

for the engine noise, nothing beats the mighty 757.

but do remember that the 757 uses two different engines (depending on the operator) while the 737 is restricted to only one engine type.

no. most airlines B757's are configured with Rolls Royce Engines. a handful use PW2000. NW, United, DL, and I'm not sure who else, maybe Thomas Cook
