@theSicilianToe As a final point, I take it based on your user ID that you are either Italian or proudly Italian American. And Catholic, one presumes? Well, then. Mary, Mother of Christ was 13 at the time of the Immaculate Conception and 14 by the Nativity. And her husband was a 78 year old man. Deal with that. Think on it and then, once you have, I beseech you from the bowels of Christ, think it possible you might be mistaken.
@spike1138 I am not a Catholic. I was baptized and raised Catholic but then I came to my senses when I picked up real books and started to read them. Actually, I have a foot fetish and I am Sicilian, thus you get the Sicilian Toe. Im also an atheist, and I do know the facts of the crime. He drugged and then had sex with an underage girl, plead guilty to the crime, and then fled the United States. Those are the facts of the case and thats why the U.S. set him up at an awards ceremony for arrest.
@theSicilianToe Let me reframe it this way - this is all from Geimer's Grand Jury testimony. She was 13 years, 50 weeks on the day it happened. She testified that two weeks earlier had been the last time she had sex before that. She had a boyfriend. He was 17. Under 1977 California Law, a person must be 14 to knowingly consent, otherwise it is statutory rape, regardless of what she says to the contrary. ANYONE over the age of 16 having intercourse with anyone below14 is guilty of Rape of a Minor
@spike1138 Um as much of a great director as he is he deserves to be in prison. And you are mentally ill for being the kind of person who thinks somebodys achievements should trump their crimes.
@theSicilianToe I'm not and I didn't, please don't insult me or call me names. I also didn't make any snap judgements about what other people deserve based on what I think. All I said was that putting a 5"2, slight and vaguely effeminate man into a maximum security prison wing in Califfornia with many people in there believing as you do that he's a rapist of children would be very unsafe for him and he would be unlikely to survive for 10 years, being 78 as he is now. Do you disagree?
@theSicilianToe As for what he deserves, what you I think doesn't hugely matter and won't make a great deal of difference. Nor will what I think. The only people whose informed opionon on this that might actually matter would be a jury of his peers in an open court in a fair trial. Roman never got that, he will never get it and he has to live with that every single day, the way he has for the last 35 years. So do you. You're both going to have to live with it.
@theSicilianToe I don't know you, I don't know how much you know or how much you think you know, but the two are often not the same when it comes to this case. They certainly weren't for me and up until 6 months ago, I would have agreed with you until I looked into the facts, rather than listening to "Roman Polanski raped a child, he should pay". What most people think he did and what his victim, the State and he all agree he did are like comparing Murder in the 1st to vehicular manslaughter
@theSicilianToe You can choose to believe that or disbelieve it and I totally understand if you take it upon yourself to remain skeptical. That's fair enough and I won't attempt to change your mind beyond leaving you with this one thought: Roman is a French citizen and flew back to Paris when he realised he was about to get screwed by the judge abusing the system to get a headline.
Do you really believe that Rape and Child Abuse are not considered serious crimes in France?
@theSicilianToe You can have the US vs France, Freedom Fries vs Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys nose-thumbing war of insults til the cows come home and many do.
That only explains why they might not extradict him. If he's a fugitive who has plead guilty to a serious crime in America while a French citizen, you can see how they would want to handle this themselves.
But if they had information that he was a danger to the French public, why would they not so much as arrest him in 35 years?
@theSicilianToe The reality is, the crime he plead guilty to does not exist in France. California and the UK, yes. And in neither one is it considered a serious one, the typical sentence is probation. What he plead guilty to was having consensual sex with a young woman (not his wife) between the ages of 14 and 18, knowing her true age when he himself was over 18. That's not rape, nor is it statutory rape and in fact in France it's practically mandatory.
@spike1138 Actually, he fled the United States during a rape investigation. Thats a crime. Doesnt matter if it isnt a law on Jupiter, Venus, Mars, Japan, France, or wherever. He committed a felony in the USA and then he fled the country for fear of going to prison. As much as I love Polanski he deserves to be jailed. Hes a kiddy rapist.
@theSicilianToe Factually incorrect on all counts. The investigation was over months before, five of the six charges were dropped, Rape of a Minor, Rape by Drug, furnishing a controlled substance to a minor, sodomy and performing a lewd and liscivious act on a minor. There was no investigation ongoing, those charges were dropped at the request of the girl and her family. He plead guilty and waived his 5th amendment rights. The investigation was over. The trial was over.
No one on the prosecution or the plaintifs side says he is a rapist or a child molester (please don't use the word kiddy, you're trivialising a very serious and damaging offence) and none of them has since 1977. All parties have been forbidden from speaking publicly about the case until Judge Rittenband ruled on sentencing.
@spike1138 I was not alive when the case was going on or I would take more interest in caring about it. My free time is monopolized by more important reads, like world affairs, history, religious psycho fanny babble, and science. Roman Polanski's crime however is not up for speculation. It did happen. Both parties admitted to it. You can also get a child to consent to anything. Theyre impressionable and given his status as a celebrity makes her twice as vulnerable to impression.
@theSicilianToe You can get a child to consent to anything?? Are you insane?? Have you ever seen a parent trying to get an enraged toddler to put their shoes on so they can leave the house? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!
@spike1138 Uhh you can easily get a child to put on his shoes if you bribe him with candy or letting them play their favorite video games for a couple of hours. You might be a little crazy if you dont know children are impressionable.
@theSicilianToe Are you seriously comparing doing quualudes and fooling around in a hot tub for a few hours with bribing a five year old with candy? A 13 year old girl with an adult body is not a child. Neither are they an adult, but they know right from wrong, they have minds of their own and opinions of their own and they all have worldclass bullsh*t detectors. They're not as stupid as you seem to think. It's not a black/white line either. 13 year olds can be tried in adult court for murder.
@theSicilianToe I wasn't alive when it happened either. Nor was I alive for the JFK, RFK, MLK, Malcolm X or (just) the John Lennon shootings, but you'd better believe that I care about them and they are important. The things you say you care about are VITAL to the outcome and treatment of this case. If they can't silence you or scare you or shut you up, they always use sex. Anthony Weiner will now never be President. Why? Someone tweeted his crotch shot to a supporter. Monicagate. Eliot Spitzer
@theSicilianToe My point is, everyone has sexual skeletons in their cupboard, absolutely everyone - especially in Hollywood and Washington. I'm pretty sure when I was 21, I had sex with my 17 year old girlfriend. Almost everyone is guilty of something like that and could be jailed if the right evidence turns up at the right time. They used to kill people they considered to be threatening or blackmail them with shady secrets and photos. Now the blackmail has been replaced with a public sex candal
@spike1138 Read this via tinyurl 6fs3cxn And that was just one of several dozen cases tried in my country due to Police incompetence rather than malice. Given a massive list of credit card details registered on child porn sites by US counterparts, they began investigating all the cardholders without first filtering out for cards reported stolen or used fraudulently or one used to register (again, perhaps stolen or borrowed for validation purposes) but not purchase illegal material.
@theSicilianToe The reason I think this is so very, very important to get right is this; not only does everyone have at least one bad lay in the back of their sexual history that could come back to haunt them, every single one of us is constantly leaving behind a MASSIVE digital footprint which is all archived on servers the world over; Hoover had dirt on MLK, both Kennedys and everyone in American politics and used it to broker power... Imagine what he could do if he had The Wayback Machine?
@theSicilianToe I take no pleasure in saying this - if it happened to Roman, and it can happen to Eliot Spitzer and it can happen to Anthony Weiner and if it can impeach a President of the United States, it can happen to you. And it can happen to me. It can happen to anyone. Either by Police incompetence, trial by media or by those with an adgenda looking to smear and take out someone they consider a threat.

To me, Polanski being the Police cop represents a big fat middle finger to that moron Laurence J. Rittenband, and his butt buddies (also morons).
