But they were forced to by their manager as an early marketing campaign to allow them to freely roam about on stage whilst jumping and not having to worry about strumming the right notes and show the fans the energy that Busted could generate - also, as they were a 'fresh' and new band on the scene, their music needed to be promoted to the best quality - playing the studio track would offer that better than playing live. As they progressed, they did play live (apart from Matt).

@imfanuvsport Usually he'd have a guitar but it wasn't actually plugged in.. or he'd just be strumming the very simple bass notes. But at almost every acoustic show, it'd be Charlie and James on guitars/ and singing whilst Matt just sings.

They did playback (according to Matt) because their record label (and their manager) wanted their music to be at high standard when it is first being introduced to the public. Also, its because they cant really do the 'jump' and play their instruments at the same time when playing live.

It does suck, but they were still awesome.
