Because you follow the rest in your middle of the road A6. What is rallys and rust technology? As good as the swb quattro was, it was no match for a tin can 205 t16.

Quattro Sounded nicer, and looked nicer, more power too, but handling wasn't as good. I think the S1 was more of a match for the T16, but if I had the choice it would be audi all the way, no contest.

youre forgetting one thing... the 205 was a rear engined car the S1 was a front engined car and THAT reason gave the peugeot the advantage. audi was unbeatable in the beginning but then the mid and rear engined cars started to appear and audi fell behind. they tried to catch up again by making an S1 with a brutal 1000 hp but just to insane to handle. i would have loved to see what audi would have designed if the group B hadn`t been banned. ill miss them for sure
