I've meet her twice. She's performed at the Timpanogas storytelling festival and I've seen her there both times. The first time I heard her I instantly became a fan. And the cool part is I went this summer and she remembered me from last year. YEAH!! CARMEN I LOVE YOU!!!
The point of the story is so true. Now that my mom is gone, it's all the little irritating things she did that I miss. I would never have believed it, but the things that drove me crazy are the things I miss the most.
If we kids use to have a problem with anyone it was either "kick them in the shin", "what's the last name, I'll call the mother", or "where do they live"
What folks are seeing here storytelling. It's not theater. It's not stand up. It has a structure that is liquid and changing for each performance and audience. Video can limit the effectiveness a particular storytelling performance. To get the best experience of storytelling, there is a need to experience storytelling in a live venue. You many not get the full effect of a good story with the 4th wall of video.
I've been teaching for years that the only thing that separates us is our story.
Ah Carmen, I love your work. Glad to have found this video on YouTube. I am a Storytelling listener fan that adores Carmen Deedy as one of the best in the USA. I just saw her at National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN where I have been listening for 25 years! She is ALWAYS entertaining, insightful, funny. I wish everyone could have heard more of her Moma stories when she did the Midnight Caberet at Festival. She's one of my top 3 STORYTELLERs.
She's incredible, but she must be even better when she's a little less nervous.

those 18 minutes flew by!
she's a great storyteller, and that ending is so simple yet so touching.
"honey, someday, you're gonna miss me."

Very good.
Yep, I got some memories of my mother, too.
Man, was she a spitfire in her day.

I miss her, too.

Kinda shocked that I'm the only post I see who disliked that.
What I just saw was an incomplete and poorly executed stand up act and not a charming, spellbinding, or beautiful story.
