What's so brilliant about this guy? I'm being serious - everyone's calling him a genius and all I see is some dude being weird for the sake of being weird.
Watch his rendition of The Cold Song, and you'll understand that he was a classical operatic countertenor who had an amazing delivery. He was a performer in the truest sense of the word. He realized that his on-stage persona was part of the experience for the audience. Watch his video for Falling In Love Again and you'll also see he wasn't afraid to do things that people viewed as odd or edgy for his time. He pushed the boundaries of performance.
I kinda wish there were more eccentric artists again. sure it's gimmicky, but it's fun. they're not just selling music, but a personality. maybe that's one reason lady gaga is so popular. gaga is one of the only mainstream artist that's not afraid to be unusual. (even though she steals everything)

This is a really deeply moving song.. If I'm not mistaken, he wrote this after he was diagnosed with AIDS (I could be wrong, don't kill me over it.)... It seems to me like more of a lament, as far as Nomi's general musical style ran. Would they mourn the loss of the Man, or the Idol? I may not be a child of the 80's, but I still appreciate his music. The world lost something great when he died.

I remember seeing a Nomi video on MTV when I was a kid and thinking he looked so different. His voice was like an opera singer, but he was on MTV! I think I can attribute my love of goth/rock/opera to him^^

HE was a kick-ass countertenor, with real talent. People only make comparisons because he had a persona that partly relied on costuming. He and Gaga haven't got any similar drives. She's a pop phenom looking to carve out a place for herself by pushing the existing taste into shocking overdrive - whereas Nomi had actual talent and was driven by his own personal vision.

He realized that his on-stage persona was part of the experience for the audience. I kinda wish there were more eccentric artists again. sure it's gimmicky, but it's fun. they're not just selling music, but a personality. maybe that's one reason lady gaga is so popular. gaga is one of the only mainstream artist that's not afraid to be unusual. (even though she steals everything)
