That is one of the factors. There are traumatic factors leading to annorexia (like this case), OR someone who, like you say, has compulsive tendancies. It deppends on the case, on the individual person.
The formation years of a child are the basic and most fundamental. Those children in undeveloped countries weren't taught those ideas of beauty. They DIDNOT have the reasources in which to sustain themselves. In THIS case her mother beated those thoughts into her head. When we are young we believe our parents because they're supposed to be right, because as children, all we know is them. It IS the mothers fault and she is strong for fighting annorexia.

i have a friend who grew up isolated as well (was home schooled and had an unusual upbringing with parents with psychological disorders) and has battled with anorexia throughout her teens. hearing this gives a new understanding of the disorder - that it doesn't all have to do with wanting to be thin. fortunately, my friend is no longer anorexic as she has focused her eating habits to being as organic and vegetarian as healthily possible! I'm proud of her!

I followed her story for a long while and when I discovered she passed away, I was genuinely shocked. And her passing was only a foot-note in a magazine I just happened to read at the time. Very, very sad. She was worth more than "The Face of Anorexia". Her disorder became her fame..which in my personal opinion, lead to her demise.
she had a phobia too. You can't put all the blame on her, for if that were the case, than you would also have to blame Isabelle completely for her weight loss. Anorexia is a mental condition that you are born with, you can't catch or get it.
I had another eating disorder as a teenager called Orthorexia (healthy eating disorder) and it was for the same reasons as Isabelle. My parents always called me fat and told me i need to eat healthier.
It was a gradual process until i was eating only raw vegetables at the peak of my disorder. I was 6'2 and weighed only 115 pounds. Luckily i have recovered since although i still cringe at the sight of unhealthy food.
@ElBooGieBabii anorexia isn't a choice. it is a heart breaking disease that takes people lives. do you think she wants to look like that? she was traumatized and that resulted in plaguing her mind.

This is why we shouldn't criticize others, we should tell people that they're beautiful, or "I love your hair" "Your eyes are so pretty" etc. (If you're their love ones, it would mean even more to just say something nice. "You're sooo pretty, you don't need to change!" "I love the way you are" "Most girls would kill to look like you") When people are put down or feeling ugly inside, they will die!! People that are going through things like this need another view of themselves. Let's help!

Im Jenn and am currently suffering from an ED. My goal is to meet and help others with eating disorders and provide information to those studying the disorders. If you have anorexia, bulimia, any type of ednos, or are addicted to exercise...you are not alone. Sometimes having someone to relate to is a coping technique. I was hoping she would make it through.
I followed her story for a long while and when I discovered she passed away, I was genuinely shocked. And her passing was only a foot-note in a magazine I just happened to read at the time. Very, very sad. She was worth more than "The Face of Anorexia". Her disorder became her fame..which in my personal opinion, lead to her demise.

she had a phobia too. You can't put all the blame on her, for if that were the case, than you would also have to blame Isabelle completely for her weight loss. Anorexia is a mental condition that you are born with, you can't catch or get it.

I had another eating disorder as a teenager called Orthorexia (healthy eating disorder) and it was for the same reasons as Isabelle. My parents always called me fat and told me i need to eat healthier.
It was a gradual process until i was eating only raw vegetables at the peak of my disorder. I was 6'2 and weighed only 115 pounds. Luckily i have recovered since although i still cringe at the sight of unhealthy food.

@dansergurrl123 you are right, but is the anorexic the one that must stop the disease and recover by him/herself (always with professional help of course), no one can do it for them. I think ElBooGieBabii probably doesn't understand anything about the illness, anyway.

@dansergurrl123 Anorexia isn't a choice ? You have a choice to eat. You have a choice to starve yourself... People are traumatized everyday. Some made a CHOICE to make their lives better. Some use being traumatized as an excuse to not fix it.

@dreamer13266 Eating disorders can still kill you even if you are in recovery, sadly. The physical complications of eating disorders can last forever, especially in severe cases like this one. :(
