Believe it or not, this song was frequently played on the radio in it's entirety during the summer of 1983 along with the other hit Kinda Like Love. This album should have been huge as it was Danny Joe's return to the band and there is not one bad song on it.
I miss Danny Joe Brown more and more as time goes by ... His vocals and whiskey growl on this tune bring tears to my eyes ... Did anybody even realize just how fuckin great he was? RIP DJB you were the best
The riff that kicks in at 5:23 (and again at 7:26) is awesome. So glad I found this - I couldn't remember the song, but have always remembered that riff and today found myself humming it. I was pretty sure it was a MH song but had no idea what it was called or the lyrics. So I just started randomly listening to MH songs on youtube and as soon as this one started it all came back. Man that riff should be a song unto itself. Thanks for posting! Now I'll always remember what song it's from!
@VancouverBlazersFan You can take the boy out of the South, but you can't take the South out of the boy, especially when there's breaded Okra being fried in the kitchen with some chicken drumsticks.
loved this song as a kid in get high school love it even more as an adult without the get high part guess when ya get older some things change or we just grow up .....
@VancouverBlazersFan superior is argueable i suppose..its a matter of taste...Skynyrd were the originators; to me, this is a take off of Skynyrds anthem..often imitiated, never duplicated. but dont get me wrong, i love the song and often crank it to 11 !!!!
I stumbled upon this song on a cassette of their greatest hits, and was mesmerized. I bought the tape originally for "gator country", and heard this song and couldn't believe it. I thought for the longest time they wrote the song about Martin Luther King, which would make the song incredibly cool. A southern white band singing a song about an assassinated black spiritual leader. I later learned the song was written about John Lennon being killed. Either way it's an awesome song. Thanks
How many times must good men die How many tears will the children cry 'Till we suffer no more sadness Stop the madness Oh, stop the madness If ashes are ashes and dust is dust At our journey's end, then return we must To the sands of the shore White doves in flight Peace to all But tell me why the peacemakers fall Must we bury anymore
I agree, one of the best. If they had been from some where besides the south they would have been hailed as one of the best bands of the 70's-80's era. Very tight band.
An completely underrated band. These guys deserve to be at the top along with the other classic great bands. One of my favorites showing the true depth of MH.

Very under rated song, band and musicians. Been listening to MH for over 25 years, never thought they got the credit that was due them.

@StarsnBars64 You are partially correct - the first verse DOES refer to King, then refers to John Lennon, then JFK. Awesome song!
