  • @04:53 hahaha

  • Where are the stickers!? Is it Intel? What version of Windows is it running? What kind of crazy computer is this!?

  • i like ur cat

  • Nicely done. Thank you.

  • dude thx for posting so easy, used SuperDuper to clone drive and then followed your instructions.

  • Well done video. Some people seem convinced that a external drive is better solution. Its not, for the fact that throughput on USB 2 is typically only 320 mb/s on a harddrive. eSata is better at upto 3000 mb/s which is comparable to most internal Sata drives. For some reason though, I still find my mac boots faster of the internal 7200 rpm Sata drive. My next upgrade will be most likely a SSD drive which is what Mac is promoting with their newer products. Or get a 60 dollar 500 Gig 7200 rpm dr.

  • KITTY!!! I IZ GENIUS!!! 3:30

  • would it also work if i wanted to install a solid stae hard drive

  • what kind of harddrive does this use

  • You are unable to afford macbook? There is giveaway at macbook7 . com Take your chance NOW

    I like it

  • actually your wrong has anyone seen external harddrives lateley? there TINY iv seed some that run only off of USB and powered my USB so really as the advantage of having all your files you also have your operating system and with mac OSX you can install the operating system to the harddrive and run it on a PC! or any other computer!

    PS. im a windows user

  • @kuza261 even though they are small, an external drive has slower throughput especially running through USB 2. You could run a decent external exclosure through eSata but still not as fast as running a full internal drive. I do alot of video editing with my Macbook Pro and I7 PC. I use an external drive mostly for backups and copying the required video loops. I do my full edits on my internal drive still since the throughput will be much faster for editing and rendering purposes.

  • @kuza261 I doubt you could run that same OS between two different hardware's You would mostly like have to run a dual boot to address the different hardware needs. Also like I said earlier throughput on USB 2 sucks. Unless your doing eSata possibly. I still would rather still boot of my Macbook internal drive for most purposes. And besides SSD, is just around the corner. So the real best scenario is to put a SSD internally in the macbook and be done with it and use external eSata enclosure drive

  • Excellent video! Thank you for this tutorial!! NO MORE WINDOWS!

  • what's the type of the hard drive ?? is it an apple hard disk or what ?? and are there 1TB and up versions of these hard drives or not ?

  • Great video! Cheers!

  • Good video. well made.. vocals are at perfect level. Thanks

  • so how do I put osx back on once I change Hard Drives?

  • a i have 1 to how do i install os back on it .....pleas help me need it bad

  • Is that a IDE cable? The thing looks huge!

  • I just bought a new Macbook 17, after installing the hard drive do I need to format it or do anything after installing the drive?

  • hahah, the kitty seems interested in,haha

  • is it the same thing with the 13 and 15 inch versions or they have different body?

  • is that the 7200.4 model hdd?

  • A lot of newer notebooks are actually easier to service.

  • There are ten screws 4 on the top, 4 on the bottom and 2 on each side.

  • thats 12. learn to count.

  • when u start it up do u need to reinstall the OS ? like what exactly will i need to do

  • Fastest way is: stick snow leopard in, reinstall, restore from time machine backup. It'll be blank and unbootable until you do.

  • You can do that. or clone the original drive to the new one

  • is there a way i can make an exact copy of my hard drive now with the os installed on there? or some how get my files on the new drive, and will it boot up properly

  • yes use superduper

  • app called "super duper"

  • Nope, you will need your Mac OS X CD

  • Does this void your warranty, or just taking out the battery do that, cause i would like to upgrade my macbook in the future????

  • No, it does not apply to HD or RAM swapping.

  • Yup...

  • Will doing this void your warranty? I plan on buying a Macbook Pro 15" for college, but I really would rather buy the upgrades and instal them myself, makes it cheaper that way.

  • You can change it so it doesn't automatically boot into your windows partition

  • Way easier than replacing CD in the TitaniumPB 500.

Ok, good job. Does the 7200 speed platter translate to noticeably smooter - fast - groovier hard drive "vs" the 5400?

  • Will kitty pouncing the inner case help?

  • Great video. Do you have any specifications on the screwdrivers and torx? Don't wanna mess anything up (:

    thanks,

    jacob

  • Haha, Boot Camp default startup!

    Great guide :)

  • nice cat

  • I CAN HAZ MACBOOK PRO - 3:30

  • uhh wtf?

  • This seems so much easier than changing the HD in the old 17" MacBook Pro. I did it 3 times already and I'm pretty good at it now, but I am happy to see that once I buy this new one, I won't have to go through that pain anymore. :)

    Good video, by the way.

  • meow!

hope to get my MBP 17 today!

  • whats the name of the hard drive again and how much did it cost

  • it is a Seagate 500GB 7200 RPM.

  • based on my previous experience, i'd like to remove the battery before i jiggle with the hard drive. it wasn't with a macbook, but i once fried a brand new hard drive because i didn't remove the battery first. i know the hard drive was working because i formatted it using an eSATA connection to my desktop before i put it in my laptop. am i the only unlucky one to whom this happened?

  • It's a 2.5"

  • is that a 2.5'' or a 3.5'' seagate

    thanks

  • I would like to know as well?

  • 2.5" is standard notebook HDD size. I don't know of any 3.5" HDD notebooks...

  • thanks

  • Couldn't you have bought an external hard drive - instead.

  • The reason for the new hard drive was not only for space but for the faster speed(from 5400rpm to 7200rpm). An external HD is not only slower but it's also a pain to carry around.

  • Ah good point, I had never thought of that. I think I'll do that with mine then when I get it - thanks for the video.

  • changing a hard drive on the macbook pro doesn't void the warranty?

you should do the video on changing the memory too! would be really interesting to watch, and helpful.

    by the way... great tutorial..

  • No, you can change the ram and HD and it's still under warranty.

  • Will the apple geniuses do it for you?

  • There's some amazing clockwork in there. Nice cat.

  • where did you buy the drive?

  • Thanks for the hard drive run down.

  • this video is exactly what I needed! thanks so much. by the way, cute kittie! :-)

  • Good tutorial. Next time introduce us to your cat.

  • Nice video.

i have read that the aluminum body of the MBP does not discharge you, so touch something else xD

anyway great video, you are very courageous to open up your brand new 17"MBP

So how is The battery? Does it really last 8 hours?

  • I've fully discharged the battery twice, the first time it lasted 5.5 hours and the second it lasted just under 4. It all depends on what you do obviously but I'm still happy with it.
