@LeoRyan I don't know for sure about all the sizes they have but I think all of the earvana drop-in nuts are 42mm. and most if not all Ibanez guitars are 43mm.... so
Wow.... I've never had problems keeping my strats in tune unless I ben the strings too much, or use the whammy bar too violently. I use .11s, but thats not extraordinary.
@Ryanshinobi It has nothing to do with "keeping the guitar in tune... its the overall intonation of the guitar... there is normally no way to get the guitar tuned perfectly without one of these... if your ear isn't sensitive enough to tel how out of tune the guitar is, then you don't even need to bother with these until your musical ear is more advanced...
I've recently replaced my nut, My g string is intonated but when i play a chord with it, it's out of tune, my second string gives a flanger effect thing which I dislike, How can I fix this?
It may be that the magnetic pole piece is too close to the string and thereby creating 'wolf notes'. Try adjusting the distance between pickup and string.
I thought thats what saddle adjustments were for? If the string needs to be shortened or lengthened, just move the saddle accordingly. Hmmm...the distance from the nut to the first fret would change but what about the rest of the frets?
The distance is affected proportionately to the rest of the frets too. The issue is: the vertical distance between the string at rest and when you push it down to touch the first fret (or second, or third, etc) is what throws the string sharp. You just notice it more on the first fret than the rest because it's such a sharp angle to bend the strings down. It's no different than bending the string up and down your fret, just vertical instead of horizontal. Anyway, it just plain works...I have it.
If you haven't done guitar repair before then I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. Buy it and have a tech remove the old nut and install the new if you want it to work right.
actually its a bone blank cut on a c& c router to a earvanas nut specs so actually it is NOT a earvana TM nut sorry for the confusion gang ... However it does exactly what the earvana nut does for the tuning issues on a strat..
that's an Earvana? The one I have for my strat has screws for the top piece and I don't care for it at all, because of the cheap plastic it's made out of.
the OEM earvana nut is available from their website and elsewhere online. Sadly, the superior looking nut in this video is not made by earvana and not available for sale....
Hey Steve. Bought my daughter a Dean guitar. 1 of the strings buzzes. Had it set up at Guitar Center but still buzzes. Do you think this nut could remedy this? Jim Pickett
Could be the torsion rod needs so be loosened just a touch. Press a string at the 1st and 13th fret, make sure a thin pick can fit under the 8th fret.
How does it affect the upper register? Does it stay in tune as you go up the neck? Thanks :)

@palmbeachguitar my guitar doesn't sustain that well can changing the nut help improve it's sustain ?

Hi Steve,
as Earvana doesn´t offer a nut 45mm wide, I´m also planning to route one on a c&c machine in our company.
The strat sounds very nice. Is it a model of the custom shop?

Peter

These tones sounds very familiar to me. Something closely similar to Eric Johnson's classic tones.

I read that open strings combined with notes up the neck sound sour. You just demonstrated this. Is this what others experience?
there's always a trade off. How bad is it?

If the wheel is warped fix it.

@palmbeachguitars
Ok, so how does the average person, get a bone nut cut to earvana specs? for some reason,
earvana does not want to release one of these in bone, we'll all tired of waiting for one and we
don't want a plastic nut on a nice instrument. Who's the person we can talk to with the cnc machine?

earvana makes an OEM version that is one piece. I believe the material is harder too.

Is the strat OEM out yet? I sent an email. I'm planning on buying a cheap but good MIM strat and soup it up with nice parts.

Your mistake was bringing it to guitar center. Find a mom and pop shop with a tech that knows what he's doing.
