Technically brilliant.. flat picks, picks, shreds, sweeps.. fantastic. Good tone as well. But cack songs. EVH wasn't only a great performer and innovator, but a genius songwriter - which is something a lot of shredders struggle badly at. I admire Kotzen but there's no comparison for me.

I miss the song writing that "What is" contained. For me it seemed like the focus was more about the lyrics, the hook, the melody, these last few singles have sounded more like vehicles to remind people of Richie's guitar chops. I love his guitar playing, but it is his vocal chops that really hit home for me.
