I've talked to Christians and asked them what the heck The Book of Revelation is all about and specific parts and most of them have said to not take things literally.
If that was the case then why is it in there if you're not to take it literally and no one even understands it!?!
HI..excellent question! It all depends on what you mean by "literally". There is some confusion on that word....we do take much of it "literally"..but obviously it has lots of images and figures of speech. The wisdom is to know which is which....Pastor Lassman
Another thing that concerns me about the 1,000 years view held by some groups: I'm not sure why God would bother with measuring time in increments of 1,000 years; that seems more like an earthly construction to me. The number 1000 is only important or symbolic if one's culture uses the number 10 as a base mathematically, right? Is measuring time important to God? It would seem that an eternal being like God would know the best time, and it wouldn't be something we could measure. Curious...
to me it kinda gets on my nerves to hear someone talk about isreal and how they are the specieal chosen people of god. wait a minute does that mean they have a better shot of salvation than i do. makes me feel like they are better than i am. I agree with you pastor, I have jesus christ so what makes isreal so special. we as christians should love every nation not just isreal.

I sympathize with you. I am in a similar position as an amillennialist. A few members of my own church have called me a liberal, "John Shelby Spong," a Catholic (as if that were so bad), an Episcopalian (liberal implication), dangerous, and someone who hinders missionary work (?).
HI..good question. I don't have to wear what I do..it's my choice. And I don't always wear a black suit but I did for making the videos. The black shirt and white tab are symbols of being a pastor. I'm not the only one who wears one. Many Lutherans do as well as Roman Catholics, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, Pentecostals and others. It really helps when I go to the Hospital and other places as people know that I am a christian pastor. Hope that helps a bit.
I would also encourage everyone to not be overly dogmatic in their eschatology, as this is an area where we haven't been given clear doctrinal direction through Scripture. :)
The one thing we can say with certainty is that the battle is won, and our eternal hope is secure in Christ.
Thank you for posting this! I appreciate Pastor Lassman exploring dispensationalism, but I would encourage him to do some more targeted reading.
There are people within every theological tradition that are more vocal than others...and often they are the poorest representatives of that system.
I recommend he read "Dispensationalism" by Ryrie and "Progressive Dispensationalism" by Blaising/Bock to get a couple different views within the system.

Agreed - The confusion can be...Well, confusing. I think you would enjoy (although not agree with) the treatment Blaising & Bock give dispensationalism.
For an amusing, non-irenic critique of dispensationalism, check out "Wrongly Dividing the Word of Truth" by John Gerstner. He really misunderstands the system, but it is a good read from a good mind.
