I have the same scope on my Sako 85 Varmint laminate, which is like that rifle but better. I recon you cant find a better scope than that for the same money
@l8gan80 LMAO You really don't have a clue, do you?
Nothing wrong with a 700, I will most likely buy a VSF or a Police soon, but a Sako is higher quality, though also higher cost and addons/custom parts is harder to find and/or more expensive, hence the 700.
Control feed doesn't matter. I can take my m40a1 upside down and cycle bolt with no problem . It's no problem . People that argue that point don't know what their talking about. They're just regurgitating some crap that someone else told them. Last time I checked I didn't need to shoot upside down. I can fill you with holes just as fast. Remington action is far better than any Mauser or Winchester action. Just talk to any custom rifle builder. I bet over 80% of rifles are Remington.
I'm getting the 700 Police LTR soon and putting a Nightforce 3.5-15x56 on top with NF rings and bases. Expensive exercise.. but such a neat and tidy combination.
man, you gotta love the american culture. love the old traditions, I'm asian and I dream of hunting games and wild bears. never actually got to do it :( prepare deer meat with a swiss army knife and make a stove out of rocks and wood and flint
I just bought a VSF in 22-250 and i love it. Im about to get a leupold VX-3 LR/T in 6.5-20x50 for it. Now it needs a sister rifle.....Hmm maybe a 700 VSSF in .308? LOL. All the 700 target rifles are the same essentially its just the color of the stock and whether u get stainless or blued. My VSF is near 13 pounds with scope and harris bipod. Makes my M1 Garand feel LIGHT!
try cycling your rifle on its side or upside down. Push feeds are not reliable enough thats all. I hunt in Africa alot thats why I rather have a more secure rifle action than the Remington.
Break opens are more reliable than a bolt actions. Not really. Many large dangerous game hunters in Africa who use break open double rifles are backed up by other shooters. And the back ups are often armed with bolt actions that have the time proven Mauser 98 claw extractor and controlled round feeding.
i've got a Remington 700 VSF .223 in left handed. scoped with a Leupold VX III 6.5-20x40mm EFR, Leupold mounts and rings. its had a lighter trigger put in. i decided to put a bi pod on the front to help with longer range shots. it is a heavier rifle compared to most but helps with accuracy. im an Aussie and shoot a lot in the bush so it can get annoying lugging around all day, but its excellent if propped up on a rock back of the ute! i recommend!!
was going to go schmidt&bender but i have been burnt with the 'euro is better' concept. Remington spend on R&D and i like that. love 'the feel' of the VSF. I have a tikka T3 light stainless for 'round the farm' in 223. not happy with it, even after professional mods. (bedding and trigger lightening). light guns jump in the heat of the moment. (for me anyway)
heh, i noticed the twitching too...although you know sometimes when someone is shooting with me, and they shoot the .357, i jump about a foot, even though I don't really have a flinch normally.
What kinda groups do you get? Just wondering, cuz this is the exact rifle I want except in 22-250 and with a Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x. Its hard to get anything less than 3/4MOA out of my other rifles. Primarily my Garand and 03A3. I do handload so im not too worried about mediocre groupings with factory ammo.
Groups over what distance? Once the rifle was broken in it was very accurate. Could obtain groups under 3/4 MOA quite comfortably. Hand loading was the best though. The fire formed brass combined with seating the projectiles closer to the lands made for great groupings.
MOA stands for minute of angle, and 1 MOA is approximately 1 inch @ 100 yards. MOA is actually different at different ranges, for example if you have a 1 MOA rifle, you will get 1" @ 100yd, 2" @ 200yd, 3" @ 300yd and so on. I'm looking for a genuine 1/3(or less) MOA rifle, meaning .33" 5 shot groups @ 100yd, .66"@ 200yd so on. Basically near benchrest accurate rifle. When speaking about MOA the range to group size relation is thought to be understood. Anyway, what groups do you get @ 100yd?
The best group I have achieved @ 100 yards is 0.375" consistently sub inch groups with or without factory ammo. My Brother owns the rifle now. He uses it @ 500 yards.
Excellent, I definitely want this rifle knowing its capabilities now. The groups should be a bit smaller if I get it in 22-250 since its a smaller diameter bullet. Now the question is do i get a leupold competition scope or a VX-III to top it off with. Thanks for the reply. Hope your brother traded you for a rifle as nice as that one.
he shot a barret m82A1 .50 to take out the helo in the opening sceen, then later he was shooting a cheytac intervention .408. for the most part he shot the R700
Why do I need eye protection? When pistol shooting I agree. Never had the requirement when shooting long arms to wear eye protection. Subsequently I am not on a range but on my own property. No excuse to be less safe though.
For people that have hands on experience with Nightforce scopes, are they any good? Their price is nice, but also a little scary. Is this a classic case of you get what you pay for?
Totally, optics are fantastic! The scope is built extremely well. Durable as all hell. They are standard for many miltary forces around the world. For less coin I could have had a MKIV from Leupold. Not a regret in the world.
i have to respectfully disagree, they are not used in the military forces they were tried out on the testing versions of the xm3 for the usmc but they didnt like them. yes they are very good scopes, compariable to a mark 4 leupold. about the smae price as well. I shoot schmidt&bender.
No not at all. They have a remington short action and that is it. They use a Schnider barrel, badger floor plate, badger bases& rings, and it sits in a Mcmillan A4 stock. It is topped with a Schmidt & Bender PM4 4-16x50. I dont think it uses a factory trigger either.
A Nightforce scope for a Mauser action. I would go the 5.5 - 22 x 50. The 56mm objective might be too wide for the profile of the barrel on the rifle.
A second problem is that the mauser action on K98 might not suit the mounting systems out there.
You might have to experiment with this. For a rifle that has been designed with naked sights in mind the addition of a scope can be tricky. Also you might wanna think about over what distances you are shooting. Are you hunting? Food for thought.
All depends on what you want to do with it? What is your build like. Are you light and thin? Heavy and a unit? Hunting or target shooting. There will be some set up involved for you to be comfortable. A light rifle will give you a boot. A heavy rifle will absorb some of the recoil.
ya dude i weigh about 150 and i have good broad shoulders and i have shot a 8mm mouser which kicked the crap outta me and i will be using it for kinda both ill take it to the range every now and then
ok dude i just got it yesterday plz help me out here im about 150 lbs and muscular, i got a remington model 700 sps 308. i think i can probably handle it though i have shot my 8mm mouser and its kicks like a 30-06 so i think i should be able to handle this, hahah i almost bought a 7mm magnum but my uncle told me that would nock the crap out of me
Well if you already own a 30-30 this will be familiar. What I dont like about the 30cal is that you cant retain the sight picture as well as say a 22cal or even a .243/6mm.
Remember the weight of the projectiles you use will have an effect on the recoil. The rifle in the video does kick. I have a recoil pad for it now. Think about it. The 30-30 has less powder behind the bullet so the recoil will be less on a 30-30. The short answer is, yes the .308 will kick more.
Are you allowed to hunt at night, in addition with nightvision? I don't know too much about nightforce scopes, but is it actual nightvision? BTW nice setup, I have a rem700 sendero sf II 7mm mag with a leupold mark IV. If possible could you make a video showing your scope at night? I'm trying to build a ruger 10-22 suppressed, and I'd like to throw a night capable scope on it.
Also, Nightforce is a brandname. Not nightvision, not an IR unit. If it was either of those, I don't think he'd be using it in the daytime. Glad you thought about that.
And the point of the video was?!
