there is no reason to hide it. Old Mac OS sucks royally especially when time moved forward to the 90s. Multiple attempts to modernize it failed miserably. Failures to create modern OS, which was and still is the core piece of Apple, was one of the major reasons Apple eventually bought NeXT, therefore, set the stage for Steve Jobs' triumphant and ultimately record-setting return. Think of it this way: if old Mac OS were half decent, there'd never have been iphone/ipad..
OS 8 and 8.1 were nice and stable for me, but the fact that there weren't a lot of Mac games at the time made the Mac experience no fun. Mac ports of more-popular PC games were far too few to matter.
That being said, it's nice to see that this time around, Apple has been a bit more welcoming to the gaming community.
There is no "Mac OS X 9", which means you don't know what you are talking about. But let's assume you mean "Mac OS 9".
Well, Mac OS 9 was introduced in 1999, Windows XP - in 2001. Even if XP was better than Mac OS 9, Apple had Mac OS X 10.0 early in 2001, and 10.1 soon later this year, and Mac OS X is light years ahead of WinXP. So, what exactly you wanted to say - that newer MS systems are better than old systems from Apple? Sure, "Redmond, start your photocopiers", ;-).
@teh5abiking That is not true. I assume that by "technological standpoint" you mean that the Unix kernel is better than the NT kernel, but that is completely false. The NT kernel has a much more modern design, even to this day.
@LeoNatan25 Both are old designs. Windows was modelled of VMS, OS/X (and Linux I'll add) are modelled off UNIX. Both are 1980s era technologies. To be honest, the most modern OS design in recent times was IBMs OS/2, but that never really caught on.
@LeoNatan25 There are many so-called "Unix" kernels, and at least some of them can be better than NT. OS X kernel is quite modern because it is based on Mach 3 microkernel, it has sophisticated object-oriented driver API called I/O Kit and some other nice features.
Windows 9x was also better. Seriously, did you ever try do serious tasks on a Macintosh computer of the day? It didn't even have preemtive multitasking.
@McVaio Yeah. OSX changed everything, but as a sysadmin that had to maintain a lot of OS7/OS8/OS9 desktops, it really felt like apple where behind the times here. It makes sense, this all was at a time when Steve Jobs was exiled from the company, and apple management had no idea what it was doing. It made lots of attempts to modernise its OS, but kept failing, until Jobs returned , bringing the NeXT core with him, which let apple finally build a true modern OS.
@McVaio AFAIR, WIndows 9x's preemptive multitasking was very imperfect. I remember how the whole user interface could become completely locked, when the only movable on-screen object was the hourglass cursor. I guess I don't need to mention those frequent "illegal operation" message boxes and BSODs.
I won't be saying that Windows 95 was perfect, but seriously, did you use both systems back in the day? Mac OS made Windows 95 seem like a utopia of stability :-P
@imadsaidbhai mac os 9 had features that windows copied like the login screen in windows xp, and they had more features like voiceprint recognition for login
@Leopardgecko502 It's still more stable and the reason it doesn't support those programs is because Microsoft is trying to kill it off. Vista was such an epic fail that many people went right back to XP and many people and that is the reason 74% of PC users still use it. Microsoft wants people to start upgrading, so they are crippling XP.
@julosx I really like mac...but there's one thing that windows does a milion times better than mac...play games...that's why i bought a pc...if mac was able to play all games windows play, i would have bought it :)
@bogdanmihai58 There's a bloody lot of games you can install on a Mac, and not only if you're a retro gamer. Not to mention more than a few users set up W7 through Parallels or Boot Camp to run Windows or Linux apps on their Mac. Window runs even better on a Mac than it would on a PC !
Damn I love running OS 8 on my Blue and White G3 with a 1GHz Sonnet Encore G4 upgrade!

@MacBoock Well from a technological standpoint, the assumption that OSX is better than Windows is for the most part true.
However, I see Mac OS X as nothing more than just an over-hyped, overpriced UNIX system.

@bogdanmihai58 Windows 7 is overhyped. XP still performs better, even in multicore processor operations, and 7 is supposed to be optimized for that.
