This reminds me of the vast underground cities on Delta Pavonis IV. Magnificent and massive archology's that the people there built. Simply breaktaking.
God damn, I want this game NOW! This game is everything that I want out of a space sim. A vast galaxy. TWITCH-BASED combat. And being to fly into planet's atmospheres.
@commandershadebetter I wish you could not only go into the atmosphere and visit the planet but also go into their oceans as well and fly into storms in the atmosphere etc... I have yet to see any clouds in any of these planets. would add to the realism.
No offense, but the cities don't particularly strike me as life-size, or scaled properly. It seems from the video that the city would look like a small village from the point of view of a cockpit.
@LordTyrannus As I said depends on the camera. Through the map-editor's point of view nothing is life-size until you add a character model in the scene and compare it's size to it's environment. Up till that moment the scene/room/map may be huge or may be not bigger than a regular shoe box. If u remember that map in counter strike. Rats. Where the map was a kitchen and all of you were tiny lil soldiers. Same thing here. And besides u can see windows here.
@LordTyrannus If they're made more visible and standing out in the final version (more light comming out of em) It'll be more obvious that those are huge buildings with ppl in em. At the end of the video when the camera views everything from way up it does look a lot like an enormous city.
Hey koolJ, where did you get that model from, and how do you use the Infinity-engine to display certain objects in it? You have to use some kind of SDK for that? I'm not aware of any SDK out yet... so enlighten me please. : )
Not really. The guys who are currently running the relatively unoptimized game for these videos obviously have good rigs, but they still get a solid 40-60fps. I am thinking, by the time it's released, that it will be decent enough for above average home computers.
Do also note though that he is still building the engine and adding new features which will require more performance. He is aiming to have the game run, and look good, on a good computer. I doubt that when its fully done its going to be able to be played at 40-60fps on an average home computer.
Most likely. If the computers that hes using now to work on the engine with and test it can run it at 40-60fps, without it being complete yet, than u can imagine later on the computers he is using will be considered average, and you can just disable / lower a few things in order to play it. ...if that makes any sense.
Honestly, it doesn't take that much effort for the average person to upgrade their PC to a level where this game can be played properly and quite frankly, if people just "expect" to play games like this on shitty outdated PC's then I say fuck 'em. I upgrade my PC every 24 months. Any person can save the money required to update their box to a reasonable level every 24 months.
If you bought computers which are a couple of years behind you could probably regularly upgrade and still be able to run up-to-date games with a couple of hundred dollars.
The Combat Prototype does run very fine with Vista. Check your system, because it's running fine with me. Vista Ultimate 32bit. Maybe it's not 64bit compatible.
Probably, if I recall players will be able to start their own colonies so there will be many small things scattered about. I dont know if there will be "official" ones though that are made by the devs. oh and probably not fishing colonies :P...maybe something like mining though :D
most likely not, if you made an entire game this big and online, would you just release it for free to play :P? The beta will probably be free though, since its just a beta.
he is going to license the engine to other developers when he's done, and will probably charge some type of monthly fee to play infinity. im sure hes going to get money out of it :p

@MultiIPwnage In Infinity's stroyline, the location of Earth has been lost to history. Now that Man needs something from Earth, we gotta find it.

@LordTyrannus nothing in games is really life-size, it basically depends on the camera and fov imo and comparison between object x and object z

@siromashev
So then virtual life-size?

It's an official video. So made by InfinityAdmin, using his engine. The model is ShadowWrayths.

Ha, wait, those are buildings? I was confused, the mesh looked like wire fence. I assumed it was way smaller than that.
cyborgtroy 2 years ago
It is a multi-kilometre dome. Rather bigger than wiremesh.

It's interesting, but this is probably DirectX 10 / Windows Vista, and that is a huge buzzkill. I really don't like Vista.
cyborgtroy 3 years ago
Not really, DX9 can looks surprisingly good, hell the Combat Prototype doesn't even want to run on Vista :D
Besides you can run Vista DX10 shit in DX9 on XP
I do it all the time.
Cept for Halo 2, but they fixed that as well.
