  • i think Nat plays piano like this too!!

  • I think this is Oscar playing. A little bit more laid back than usual but sounds like Oscar to me ???

  • As long as there zre two people disliking this, we can't abolish death penalty!

  • ah, gotta love nat king cole and his trio. great recording.

  • For my beloved state as it survives the worst floods in 100 years.August 2011

  • Just lovely, light, lilting. And he places everything in a perfect place to play with a guitarist. Fabulous.

  • nice song for a dance..~~~

  • Vermont is famous for nothing whatsoever. It is part of the select group of states of the USA known as the "Worthless States", which also includes Illinois, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island and France.

Just look at that list. How many of those states could you even remember existing before you read it?

The national animal of Vermont is the pie, and the national flower is Regis Philbin.

  • @LucifersCockMeat i guess you've never been to school or opened an American history book. i suggest u look up Ethan Allen & the Green Mountain Boys who were responsible for capturing Fort Ticonderoga from the British & helped turn the tide of the American Revolution so that u could be here today to slag them and their their great Republic of VT.

the "Don't Tread On Me" flag that they carried proudly has since been hi-jacked by the also uninformed teabaggers of today.

    go back to school idiot

  • @LucifersCockMeat is obviously small- that is why he is such a jerk!

  • Try Eb^ Cm7 A halfdimin Abm6...... Eb^ Cm7 B9 E^

  • philh37 - I klnow what I am listening to is pure magic - are you telling me what I can't hear is even better???? or are you having a quiet sip on the side ???? Graham Melb Aus

  • This music lives forever.....

  • i don't know if there are elevators in heaven, but I'm sure that Hell is full of ignorant co@ksuckers like doisdjoal......

  • Nat Cole: still the best after all these years. Long live the King!

  • Beautifully played, great economy of sound. Not always about the notes that are played so much as the ones that are NOT played.

  • One of the best if not the best versions of this song. That simple 3 piece trio, had it all together and it shows. They don't make them like this anymore. Thanks for sharing.

  • Excellent music, good for the Holidays!! Nat el grande.

  • @JazzAce340 That was a cool ending for your comment: "Nat, the keys are yours--We're listening. Nat Cole has always been one of my favorite jazz pianists, he held the highest of respect from Oscar Peterson and all that knew him for his playing.

  • @bambam691964. great comments. yes you were very fortunate!!

  • Beautiful. I am 46 years young, and i grew up in a home where great music always filled the air. Ink Spots, Mills Brothers, Billie Holiday, you name it.. I am blessed to have had exposure to such talent as a child. People i know are amazed when i can name a tune, or a band, or an artist from 60 years ago. Thanks mom and dad!

  • amazing :) love it

  • 802 represent!

  • Sends me to the moon too, on gosammer wings ...

  • wow, amazing

  • NKC Trio had such a warm and sensuous sound. I love it. :)

  • que lindo cantava este negro maravilloso

  • close your eyes and drift off...brilliant@

  • Nat King Cole is one of my all time favorites. When I was apre-schooler,I learned Rambling Rose, all my parents had me sing it for them.

  • This piano makes me cry. Do I need to say more?

  • JazzAce340,I totally agree with your statement here about speed, sometimes all that shredding sounds so a-musical while these guys don't spill notes, they make every note count to express their beautiful souls, this is great quality Music and will always be,it's timeless,Vic.

  • I wonder how much of this is improvised?

Maybe he said: "Hey, lets go play around on our instruments for a few minutes and whatever comes out we will call in "Moonlight in Vermont.""

  • @bottledsoul haha just a little play around.

  • For the great bill evans, nat was genius on piano, for oscar peterson too, ahmad jamal, and by the god of piano himself art tatum

  • love it'

  • jay dubbs....yep people seem to miss the fact that nat was the BEST jazz piano player of all time...subtle, lyrical, and oh so smooth

  • Nat was nice but come on. His fingers in no way compared to his voice.

  • @cavaleer The late Ocar Peterson and a number of other jazz piano players would disagree with you. Had Nat Cole never sang a note, he would have gone down in history as one of the greatest musicians that ever lived. That is a fact.

  • Bro' that's a great point to be corrected on. ;-)

  • Kudos Cavaleer. You have a magnanimous spirit, something you might embrace because you share that with Nat Cole himself.

  • Bravo to you my friend. I was ignorant of Nat's overall brilliance and am very pleased to be enlightened, and I'll share this with others.

    Thanks again.

  • Willie Nelson recorded a very nice version of this song.

  • a lot of people sleep on the fact that Nat was hip on that piano ....remember he is a musician as well as a brilliant singer....

  • Que hermosura, simplemente bello

  • Beautiful, this is my kind of music and Nat King Cole was the greatest.

  • love this jazz

  • Best rendition of Moonlight in Vermont, EVER!

  • Well, maybe not. Listen to the Johnny Smith/Stan Getz version, if you can find it. Superb. As far as vocals go, the classic version is by Margaret Whiting, with Billy Butterfield, trumpet. Billy can also be heard at the start of what is arguably the best big band version of Stardust, by Artie Shaw. Billy also recorded Stardust with his own band.

  • @ljliljohn Margaret Whiting??? are you kidding? i went to her version and pitch seems to be a serious issue... pure and simple! Nat Cole was the best...EVER!

  • My bad Aaron. No harm intended. I know better than that ! ..

My late grandfather would have pop me upside the head for that. (Ouch) ! .... :-)

  • I was born late in 67' this is really good music ..... Nate (if I'm allowed to call him that) is really King. no pun intended ... Wow !!!

  • His name is N A T, not Nate.

  • Look at those gentlemen. They really made a marvelous music.

  • This is the music that they play in Heaven,,,,,

  • @terrryc

After Bach, Mozart and Vaughan Williams.

  • @terrryc ...yh maybe in the waiting room or on the escalator on the way up lolol

  • @terrryc more like the polite waiting room music they would play shortly before the entering of heaven

  • @terrryc: yes! ;( !!!!!

  • @terrryc are there elevators in heaven?

  • @terrryc but black people don't go to heaven...

  • @NickrophobicDrums hahaha and racist people either

  • @NickrophobicDrums hell was made for white people

  • Marvelous

  • Well ,I have lots of his piano work but nothing as good as this. (How can I say that?)

But I think you know what I mean!

    Thank you, Ritah166

  • he's also got a voice to match

  • I'm glad we have this rendition. But I'm sorry that Mr. Cole never recorded it as a song, with his beautiful voice. In an alternate reality one could own both versons on an LP.

  • The best vocal rendition of this I ever heard is by Margaret Whiting, at about the same time frame, with the Billy Butterfield orchestra, trumpet solos by Billy Butterfield, who also solos on the best big band version of Stardust, the one by Artie Shaw. The best jazz version of Moonlight in Vermont is the classic Johnny Smith/Stan Getz version.

  • so relaxing ..... just listening the piano =-)

  • wow these guys can play..

  • Nat King Cole Trio ...

This music has always been in a class by it's self..

Just an incredible little band....The best ever...!

  • grrrrrrrrrrrrreat

  • beautiful

  • quite elegance. sweet and simple, that Nat, Thanks

  • This guy was as cool as the other side of the pillow....

  • I like that

  • Any guess on the year of this?? Just curious....

  • Most probably 1947.

  • Music comes first in this playing. He doesn't over-play - lovely clarity.

  • Yes, there was Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson and George Shearing and Thelonius Monk and all the other super-greats. Nat King Cole is my favorite. Not out to impress with his wizardry (though he was a wizard), but just to make the beautiful music. Utterly sublime.

  • @finedave53 xDDDD wizardry?? Or further knowledge of harmony?
