riddle pilots need to wake up and realize that flying is not something to be cool about, its about being serious and taking care of 100-300 people on a single flight at a time, or thousands of dollars worth of cargo, not eating take out in the back seat or messing with a camera on a solo. id rather have a retired airline pilot instructor who has 30,000+ hours rather than a college student with 300 hours. i took my chances with purdue instead of embry, very unprofessional.
Friend if you do not find joy in flying then you should probably choose a different career. Say what you want about Riddle but a passion and love for aviation is something that all pilots share so stop being so dam cynical.
@tex7477 the fact that someday i will be responsible for a few hundred people and a few million dollars worth of equipment is what i enjoy, and my real joy in aviation will be when i own my own small plane someday. riddle pilots think they are better than everyone else, and for the 200 grand any idiot would blow at ERAU, you could pay 60 grand at ATP (with REAL instructors with thousands of hours) and get your airline transport pilot certificate in about 150 days, beats 4 years blowing 200 grand
@captainsmartass123 Ive worked for airlines, bush charter companies, flight schools. Let me tell you my worst days of flying were with the airlines, i dont understand why you kids long to be airline pilots. Do some useful flying get a job in the bush, or join the forces
@hawker800FO really? ya family members have said airline flying isnt that great anymore. But one thing is for sure, im never serving america, on the ground or in the air, not putting my life on the line for this sad excuse for a country. And what i would really love is a great corporate job, but from what i hear, it is really hard to get a good corporate job, am i right?
@captainsmartass123 easier than getting a military flight contract, typically unless you know someone they are reserved for high hour pilots. I got lucky because my former company owned a corporate division and they picked me to upgrade then wouldn't give me hours so now I'm up in the Yukon flying bush and medivac. My fav job is this one I'm at now and my first job as a CFI airline flying really wasn't for me.
And for flight, no it is not worth it! Also every year for the last 20 years, Embry-Riddle has just barley kept its flight training certification because of all the crap those drunken idiot flight students do. And in the industry, Riddle pilots are notorious for lack of experience, lack of professionalism, and lack of flight knowledge. Every year the school requires fewer flight hours for graduation: Which sounds great on paper, but means you can't fly solo or as the captain. Don't go there!!!
So where's the part about becoming an instructor with have the hour other schools require to fly, or flying while drunk, instructing while drunk, drunk instructing while student is also drunk, flying through the Cape Canaveral no-fly zone, embarrassing students in ALL other programs, buying large amounts of alcohol while in flight instructor uniform, buying meth while in uniform, and my personal favorite, paying $50,000 a year for a job where you'll be lucky to make $30,000 a year!
Talk to a current flying pilot at the airlines today, and get the real story. Remember, flight schools mainly want your money.
Who wants to start life with a $100,000 - $200,000 debt, all to get a flying job starting out at appr. $17,000/yr. (Recently a passenger told me his son has a $250,000 debt now from ERAU) The cost will be more when the new FAA requirements are presented.
Talk to the ones (airline pilots) doing the job, not the salespeople who need your money to keep them afloat.
