Got to see him for the first time last night at a small venue in Green Bay Wis. Only about two hundred people there.............all I can say is wow! I have a lot to learn as an advanced novice acoustic guitar player.
I grew up in the same neighborhood as Willy!!! This song mentions the railroad tracks by our neighborhood. Great fun and mischief down there! Great show again last night Willy.

@gail0010 gail where did u and willy grow up..the state would be ebough for me. Thanks Oh b the way I just ran accross him acouple years ago and love his bright mind and music.
Mmmmm, mmm, mm....I forgot how good he is. And man, does he put on an entertaining live performance....like sitting with your buddy who happens to be insanely musically talented.
been trying to get new copies of "dog eared dream" and "the trees have soul" for yeeeaaars! If you´ve got em, come on...post all you can!! Fell in love at my first concert in the 80´s!!!
Willy's special, for sure. I've been lucky to see him 5 or 6 times over the years. He is as genuine and friendly as he is talented. His rapport with his audience is one of the highlights of his shows. For the unindoctrinated, pick up the album "The Trees Have Soul." It might be hard to run down, but it is a masterpiece. It will always be among my favorites.
Hey there Willy! Just wanna say that i think that you are very talented, and love your humbleness, have you ever heard of Don Ross, i think you would enjoy, "cheers my friend.
I remember watching Willy play at the Cabin at UWEC back in 87. He has always been an amazingly talented man. And his music just keeps getting better as we get older. And as I recall, yes. He is one class act.
I was fortunate enough to see Willy here in San Diego soloing before he was off to tour with the Cranberry's.. Will never forget the experience, and what a truely nice guy he is.. would be cool just to hang and drink with him to hear some stories about LA,, Chicago, and the road...
i just tried a willy porter style open tuning and found this tune here, so i thought i'd post my video here too.
one of my students told me willy had a new guild at his show the other night, that i couldn't go to because i had a show to play, and i couldn't imagine him using a guild because of the high end ones he's used, but this signature model is amazing!
First became aware of Willy on a UK Jethro Tull tour....Him and Martin Barre trading acoustic licks for fun before the start of the main show - but when Willy played "Breathe" he just moved up two gears and left everyone else behind. A true virtuoso.
oh. my. god.
