OK...Let's face it....there is NOTHING like good old-time Canadian Rock Music. It makes me want to go put on my bell bottoms and sit in the sun...listening to music like this...on the AM radio placed on the kitchen windowsill (facing OUT) Sweet memories...
okay so i just got back from a trip to florida. did you know the US has a law that a their flag must be lit up at night, or it must be taken down. And if you want to fly any other countries flag theres has to be on top. I think its time canada had a little more pride. Talk shit about our beavers all you want, but trust me, nothing like canadian beaver ;)
My wife just told me that she used to play the drum line to this on the rain water holding tank at her cottage with my father-in-law hanging out the bedroom window telling her to shut the fuck up lol.
@babyimawantyou I'll tell you wat as soon as April Wine has sold more than 250 million records and has had seven consecutive No. 1 US albums, 56 Top 40 singles, 16 Top 10 singles, four No. 2 hits, and nine No. 1 hits and has won six Grammy Awards THEN we can talk about whos better
Elton's record company paying the powers that be for awards does not impress me.
Many Canadian bands have been looked over by institutions like the Grammy Awards simply because their record companies wouldn't pay to submit the nominations package.
Money talks, my friend.
At least these guys never called up their manager like a prima donna bitch to tell him to do something about the wind outside so that they could sleep.
@lesterclaypool1 if u take away the grammy awards elton has still won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award.. how many of ur canadian artist can say that.. money talks you sound like a conspiracy nut. and it seems like ur for getting about the 250 MILLION RECORDS SOLD once one of ur canadian bands has sold half as many records as elton john has sold then we can talk until then its Mr.prima donna bitch to you
I've worked in the industry for years and have seen what a song goes through to be considered for an award. If your financial backer (record label, production company) doesn't put up the money to get a nomination processed you don't get considered. This isn't a conspiracy theory, it isn't even an industry secret: It's well known that Simon and Garfunkel's "Cecilia" missed out on a Grammy nod because someone at the record company forgot to submit the nominations paperwork.
How high a song is pumped up the charts is directly related to the money that is devoted to product placement. That Elton John had huge financial backing on an international level is not a statement on his musicianship it's just a statement on the number of billboards bought
Few Canadian artists had ANY money behind them, and their chart position and lack of awards reflect this. People like you who think that ad manipulation is related to talent are simple folk, indeed.
I'm not disputing or denying that Elton has talent or that he doesn't put out a good product, his song writing partner, Taupin, cowrote my favorite Alice Cooper album, I'm just saying that bought accolades and chart positions aren't the best measure of these things.
Australia gave us AC/DC, America gave us The Doors, Britain gave us Led Zeppelin, Germany gave us The Scorpions, Ireland gave us Thin Lizzy and Canada gave us April Wine!
As an American I like to say thanks Canada for April Wine. And pardon the American schmucks who spout off like jerks. They are like chronic flatulence, hard to rein in and embarrassing when heard from.
Canadian rock, American Rock and UK Rock are just that...different. Why not see rock as the mosaic as it was meant to be, not a conforming melting pot. From April Wine and Rush, to Hendrix and Nirvana, to The Who and The Stones, ROCK AND ROLL IS A GOOD DAMN THING! Haters, quit hatin!

I don't know about you but the real Canadian Experience isn't "redneck" that's a yankee thing, Rock N Roll is Canadian, we fuckin own it, look at our rock musicians and compare it to the american pop culture equivalent, its ours that dominatesby far
@rabado1978 i'm sorry man, i'm Canadian, but there's no way in hell that Canadian rock is better than American rock. Rock n' Roll belongs to the south, we just enjoy it. Aerosmith, GnR, Jimi Hendrix... we don't stand a chance. Rock n' Roll has the stripes and stars written all over it.
@boundedeight I hate to break this to you but rock is a very U.S. thing. @mindlessjrlee Yeah, I agree. I don't get why someone would like a song just because it's done by someone who happens to be the same nationality as they are. I'm American, and I like Elton's version better. Nationality has nada to do with it.
@primroseburrows So true and well spoken. I'm American and I absolutely love Elton John, and no, I'm not gay. I don't care what your nationality is, or your sexual preference, if you make good music I'm going to like it and listen to it. With modern technology, I am now able to listen to music from all over the world. I never in my life thought that in 1975, at the age of 13, that there would be a technology that allowed us the freedom to listen to such great music from all over the world!
@mindlessjrlee I love the freedom the technology brings, but I do miss my vinyl sometimes. :) My musical taste runs the gamut from punk to classic rock to folk with about a zillion stops in between (and btw includes a whole * bunch* of Canadian music *g*).
@primroseburrows it seems as if you are saying april wine is american. your opinion is even less biased than you think, as it is Canadian music vs British music.
@canukkid Oh, yes, I know April Wine is Canadian. :) I was just pointing out that I'm American (and a pretty big fan of Canada, actually *g*), and that my nationality has very little to do with my preference (I don't like Rush, either (please don't hit me *g*), but I'm a HUGE fan of the Hip and the Headstones, and I listen to Randy Bachman's show religiously).
@KissandpinkfloydRULE Being American is suddenly an insult? And alot of American's happen to like Rush so let's compromise and say he's Mexican. M'kay?
@MetalManiac014 I didnt say being american was a bad thing its just your not a true canadain if you dont like rush the only americans I instantly hate are the ones who do that bullshit canadian accent when they are down here

I'm off, that pathetic whining really gets a little annoying now.
People, please, (most) people who listen to Elton John don't care if he's queer, christ, it's 2010... His version is just as good. Also, April Wine rocks
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Don't care about those Canadian rednecks, cheese. They wouldn't know a good version if it would crawl up their anuses. ^^ Prefer Elton's version so full of life and power as well.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Just rippin' on Canadian rednecks, didn't know all Canadians feel addressed then. And sorry, but for me April Wine removed everything that made this song special.
@strangefruit42 fuck you you asshole jerkoff faggot APRIL WINE ROCKS!!!!! THIS IS THE WAY THIS SONG IS MENT TO BE IM SO DAMN HAPPY THIS VIDEO WAS PUT UP THANK YOU AHD999M!!!!!!
@FenrirBane Some of us Canadians are damn proud to be rednecks, thank you very much..................................loose the turban and pass the Wine
@GFRFan12 I dunno, it sounds to me like they're taking Elton and painting him in Led Zeppelin colours (and changing lyrics--it's not "It's my life"; Elton was actually singing "Osa ma la".). I like covers that change songs up, but not so much this one, it's too commercialized IMO. YMMV, naturally.
A bunch of cum sucking faggsticks. I think its sadd that in 30-40 years ( they ) would be considered classic rock ? Fuck that il stick with these guys in 40 years.
O....one more thing I wanted to mention...

I like this version better then the original...
Maybe because April Wine is Canadian or maybe becasue I just like this one more.

People, please, (most) people who listen to Elton John don't care if he's queer, christ, it's 2010... His version is just as good. Also, April Wine rocks
Ian74263 2 years ago 10
@Ian74263 Mainly, the people who aren't morons don't care.
Besides, both versions are very different, trying to decide which one is "best" is dumb. They're both suited to different tastes.

Don't care about those Canadian rednecks, cheese. They wouldn't know a good version if it would crawl up their anuses. ^^ Prefer Elton's version so full of life and power as well.

@strangefruit42 rippin on Canadians... So classy. They're both good versions?

Just rippin' on Canadian rednecks, didn't know all Canadians feel addressed then. And sorry, but for me April Wine removed everything that made this song special.

What's that? Is that European elitism I hear? Seriously, you've got the wrong guys. Canadians are definitely not the rednecks on our continent.

much better than Elton John's.
GFRFan12 2 years ago 69
@GFRFan12 I completely agree.
Tysoncampbell69 1 year ago
@GFRFan12 I dunno, it sounds to me like they're taking Elton and painting him in Led Zeppelin colours (and changing lyrics--it's not "It's my life"; Elton was actually singing "Osa ma la".). I like covers that change songs up, but not so much this one, it's too commercialized IMO. YMMV, naturally.

nonononononononononononoNONONONONONONOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Elton John pwns April Wine. Sure I like april Wine but still! Elton has more soul!

@z10v april wine performs this tune better than elton, in my opinion
styx8 10 months ago
@styx8 Well I guess everyone has their proper opinion.... But Elton is just awesome for this song... But I also love April Wine's version
z10v 3 months ago
@GFRFan12 not even close, Elton John's studio and live from 11/17/70 is way better than this although not a bad cover

A bunch of cum sucking faggsticks. I think its sadd that in 30-40 years ( they ) would be considered classic rock ? Fuck that il stick with these guys in 40 years.
BigestMooseEver 2 years ago 4
I don't think they'll be considered classic rock. More like a passing fad and a bad memory of how lame 2000's music was.
