  • With your Halberd: Your doing too much with your arms. Let your body weight, gravity and momentum do the work for you.

2 weapons (one reversed): Don't cross your arms so much. the best practical application i find is to fight normally as would with one hand, off hand used for counters.

  • Thanks for the tips. I've been discovering that though the whole spinwheel thing looks cool it isn't very practical. At least against a fighter that doesn't get intimidated by it.

  • Spin wheel would be effective with the halberd if you put your shoulders into it. What i mean is it *looks* like your trying too hard to put the weapon into motion with your arms. Let your shoulders and hips do some of the work. They are much stronger.

Spinning two blades (with one reversed) not so much.

After watching the video again i have another pointer for the halberd. Ground yourself a little more. Theres a lot of unnecessary steps being taken and it appears to trip you up.

  • nice video 5 stars

got a tip for you try what you are doing with a blindfold

at slower speed off course :)

once you get the feel of knowing where your weapon is

    without seeing it

you'll be able to strike with more power precision and speed without a blindfold

    take care!

    -thomas

  • That's a good idea. Especially because I have come to notice that I depend on my eyes for balance as well. Even when I'm just walking I find myself drifting to one side or the other rather than going in a straight line.

YAY! Another video idea! (Oh, and I'm subbing to your channel too. I've seen a vid or two and I likes what you got!)

  • This is so cool, bamboo weapons NICE!.

Staffs are always my favorite weapons, simple yep powerful.

I take it that this is the few minutes of crazy that a lack of sleep brings before you crash lol

Fight young Spiritrunner & may the power of the dragon always flow within.

  • Hehe thanks mate! Though I admit letting it flow within is the easy part. Getting it to flow without as well can be a bit tricky sometimes. You know how it goes- the body can never keep up with the ego.

Uhh... Especially when you're all lazy like me. ¬_¬

  • haha we are one of a kind my friend. ^-^

  • soooo is that duct tape over bamboo or is it foam with a bamboo core?

  • All of the weapons are made from bamboo plant stakes (The bundles you can get from garden centers in five foot sticks) wrapped in duct tape with padding on the tip for thrusts. (Which is why the tips look all lumpy)

They're crude in appearance but have a mostly-accurate weight and are also cheap to make. They're actually pretty durable too and can take a hell of a whalloping. When I used to be able to get together with friends and spar for hours on end they'd still last a good month.

  • ...And we'd be going full strength/speed. Heh there's a reason the armory (A box in the back of the truck I owned at the time) was referred to as the bin of pain ^_^.

  • Let's see... Three different videos, same lame comment. Not only can you fail to say something even a little original for an insult, but you have to repeat yourself too? Is that the electronic version of a stammer or something?.

  • me and castiel challange you and dracaul to a fight. or are u to chicken.... Can-Mac high noon!

  • Yer on knave! And I'll even be so good as to carve your name into your corpse so passers-by know who to mourn! MWAHAHAHAHAAA!

(yes everyone, we know eachother. ^_^)

  • And the point of this video is...?

You do have a couple of interesting moves, but honestly you wouldn't survive a fight with a midget ninja lol

And now seriously - you should work on you balance, your stance and don't loose your guard - you open up way too often. XD

And dude - get some serious training, old MA schools, especially the ones, that are connected to spiritual teachings - will surely be a good choice considering your interests (draconity, spirituality etc).

  • What if the ninja midget had no legs? Would I win then?

As for the point of the video, there was no point. I just felt like making it. Yah know, the whole shits and giggles thing.

Thanks for the tips though, my footwork has always been a little weak and it does indeed cost me. I tend to be rather heavy-footed (especially in steel toed construction boots @_@) so I lose a lot of power. It's a work in progress I suppose.

  • Nope! If he had no legs - you would surely loose, cause you would not be able to reach him and he would use his midget ninja's shurikens to take you down :-P

  • Ah well. That's what armor and guns are for. *sinister grin*

  • Fun stuff^_^ Poor tree, what did that oak ever do to you? ~_^

  • I was rescuing the tree from a scary bug! Honest! I had to whack that thing off!

    ¬_¬ <--shifty-eyed look.

  • Spirit has them on the runner! Great training!

  • Haha that's actually rather clever! Thanks!

I'm gonna have to remember that one.

  • Very Impressive. Where/How did you learn these skills?

  • I learned them through playing around for hours on end with my friends over the last five or six years. We just got together one day and started designing swords and anything else we could muster, then got in the habit of testing them on eachother. Ahhh the fond memories of repeatedly being smacked on the same spot from the same damn feint in fifteen below (celsius) weather for hours on end. Good times! Sore, but good.

  • Ah, sounds like fun. A long time ago, me and some close friends had a live action Role Playing Game which was incredibly fun. We had like plastic weapons, but never really practiced for the sake of learning skillful stuff. Maybe we could get together again for some more "serious" weapons training hmm...

  • All you need is a bundle of bamboo plant stakes from a garden center (the five-foot ones are best), a light saw to cut them with (or good cutters), and rolls (and rolls and rolls) of duct tape.

Cut a bundle of five sticks to the length you want, tape 'em together as tightly as you can at the ends and middle. Use scraps to work in a crosspiece (liberal duct tape usage), if you're a wuss like me then use somehting for a thin layer of padding along the blade...

  • and as a must, use some sort of padding on the tip. I'd reccommend at least an inch there. Even loosely folded up safeway bags work. If the tip doesn't have padding you can't thrust though. This is a very important thing. Even rounded, the math of force to surface area means potential for a lot of pain and possible broken noses.

The head and face get hit more often than you'd expect. Whether it is intended or not it'll happen. I've gone through a couple pairs of glasses that way.

  • Ah yes I would definetely use padding x[ . Have you ever seen those "Boffer" swords that are basically foam type material? Some of them are really cool looking, but they are expensive and this is a much better idea! Besides its always so much more fun to make stuff ;P . Thx for info.

  • i love the fluid movement usually people get confused what to do next but u keep going good job 5 stars

  • Thanks for the compliments! And yeah I try to make myself continue on even if I make a mistake like catching a sword on the laundry-line (I have no idea why it's there *shrug*) or making an odd swing and tangling myself up.

In a feal fight you don't get a chance to stop and try again.

  • well u do a very good job keep up your training and u will become truly powerful not only in your physical strength but your mental strength as well

btw is there a weapon u favor the most? or a type of style?

  • let's see... For swords, paired sabers all the way. (they need to be straight-edge though not curved.)

For polearms, I think the glaive. It can be used a little like the halberd, but the blade is light enough to fight like a spear.

For really close quarters, small knives. Light, fast, easy to conceal and light to handle.

For ranged weapons I'm not that sure. But I'd lean towards throwing spikes and/or shortbows. (Or if going modern, berette .50 sniper rifle all the way -_^)

  • I just had to watch this again. I love to see you outside in action.

  • Yeah, once I manage to get warmed up it feels pretty damn good too. Actually I'm likely going to be getting a proper camera (My dad is so awesome!) sometime, so I'll be able to go out more often and take vids.

  • Wow this is way cool.

  • *laughs* Oh yeah! The vibro-pike wielding master who secretly hides a saber-whip under my cloak as well! In all likelyhood I'd be the 'red shirt' of any such series/appearance.

...yes that was a star trek reference. I'mma geek dontcha know?

  • i like cake and pie

  • if it doesnt kill your oponent, break your oponents weapon, throw your oponent off ballance, or stop an agressive swing, then its not worth doing. i would say focus more on difinative shots. spear = thrust and distance, thats what its for. all combat works in zones of circles and moves of lines. find your circle, and draw your lines

  • Thanks for the advice. Thrusts and slashes are indeed the main focus, but it's just not as flashy as the twirling- even if it is difficult because the balance is different what with the one side being heavier than the other and all. ... along with my aforementioned lack of grace.

What other techniques could be applied I wonder? Seeing as it is a glaive the spear use is good but I'm sure more than that is useable.

  • Bend your knees and breath. Make your steps sure and relaxed, but with a purpose, less like walking in a park and more like you actually intend to walk over there and stick something sharp and pointy into the other guy. fancy moves have a purpose, yes, they can throw a less skilled opponent off and force an opening, or stop a thrust. Don't underestimate the force behind a spinning cut with that glave, either, but make sure that when you strike, it's with a purpose and not flailing with a

  • a prayer. Grip nearer the head and pull the cut down to keep more control on the flow of steel. Otherwise, not bad save that it focuses more on flash and hitting your opponent than cutting him.

  • Huh I can't believe I never replied to this. All very good pointers! I do tend to flail a lot and hope for the best- even if my brin knows that a fight is much like a chess game of understanding what you know and what your opponent most likely will know- to lure him into a trap of moves that ends preferrably with you as a victor.

Of course what the brain knows and what the muscles understand can be two different things entirely. Oh well. That all comes with practice I suppose eh?

  • way cool!i have the same problem as Drakzeel tho'...NO privacy whatsoever....sigh.

also, the second song...was it a hallow bastion remix or something? it sounded cool!

  • It's called 'above the rising falls' and yeah it's from kingdom hearts. It's the original though. I love that song the piano is just beautiful.

  • it's like i've sen you somewhere before... you remind me of an old accuantance of mine named Doug... he was very kind and I really miss him...

  • Thanks for the comment, and I hope that you will cross paths with your friend again one day. You never know what the future will hold after all.

  • That Was Awsome!!! where did you learn to do all that? let me guess, you just kinda came too you? lol. but really that was cool.

  • A little instinct, a little application of things I've seen and liked, a few tips from friends who know this and that, and of course mock-fighting with my friends for hours on end back when I had the spare time.

...And despite all the fancy-ness-ness I still fall for the same stupid feint every time @_@. ...Of course the actual sword fighting is different from this stuff usually. The typical melee lasts about three or four seconds then *Whack!*-sunnova...

  • your still leaving your left side and back exposed. suggest you get armour to cover those areas. and i recognize the staff work you copied my style i like that. and also i recognise the dragon at the begining. the wrist blade is new i like the design and jayne and kaylee say hi

  • Heh yeah. My left side has always been weak. And the dragon was a drawing of mine from a couple years back. Same for the mountains actually.

And I think the only style of yours I copied eaas the dropping of my stick *_^. (I say HI back by the way.)

  • you know as i recall when we had our duel me with the staff and you with your blades. you threw one of them at me and i blocked it. plus at the time i was tired cause i didn't get no sleep the day before

  • Dragon this was intense and beautiful. you had to know I would love this! Great Job and I see great power and Martial potential in you my brother. I will assist you in any way I can Young Master. I just can't describe how cool it was to see you in action.

    FIVE STARS and FAVORITED!!!!!*****

  • Wow! Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad that you liked it so much, and I plan on spending a lot of time outside this summer learning new patterns. My aim is to learn the basics of how the weapon moves and how the force translates from one motion to the next.

I guess my first request is if you can give me any pointers on the reverse spin. (You know, the twirl behind the back thing) I always end up trying to reverse the glaive's momentum and can't seem to get it around smoothly.

  • I use my homemade Keyblades when doing that. Only trouble is, they're falling apart pretty damn quickly...

Le sigh, I guess I should send them to my friend's dad to fix them. He's a genius with anime style weapons. It's quite scary actually...

  • sweet all the same. I've always liked the design of the keyblades. They are certainly an interesting concept.

  • Awesome stuff. I enjoy doing the same thing, except that there's no real privacy for it where I live. -_-

Those weapons look really nice, too. I usually just use random sticks. XD

  • Heh thanks for the compliments. Truth be told I did a lot of heavy editing though. Every transition (well almost every one) is because I did something dumb like smack my own heel with the glaive and trip myself, or hit the laundry-lines or otherwise do something clumbsy(er).
