JAMES CLEAVELAND - should have a movie about him. Lifting him high. And the humanity along with it. It tells a story. That even during a time of social unrest and ethical misbehaving according to scripture as we knew it at that time, a brother can be very useful for the merits divinely given by God.
I want get into his sexuality, but he was indeed a music icon. I am a quartet fan. I love his material, and practically every church, choir, praise team and quartet to this day sing his material. 'Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus' has to be the Gospel song of the century and one of probably top five ever written.
@cjzzzz: You are absolutely right.....many so-called Christians want to ignore the fact that James turned out a lot of young men. He was a flamming homo and he caused a lot of young men to go astray because of his spiritual illness of homosexuality. Phony people will say we have no right to judge him....but really he judged himself by living a lie in GOD's name. His GMWSA was a homosexual haven. Some of yall wanna prop him up above the word of GOD. Last i checked homosexuality is an abomination.
As far as the comments on this video, James Cleveland owes us nothing. His judge and ultimate responsibility is to Christ ALONE. As far as this video, why is the choir in jail behind him?
listen u gotta let people REST IN PEACE....he was human like all of us.....and like all of us needs forgiveness.....isn't that what christ told us to do....."forgive them lord for they know not what they do".....None of us can cast the first stone .....cos we are ALL sinners.....all of us.....we are all suffering and sinning and dont even know it......think before u write before u sin.
I suppose everyone is free to believe or dismiss what they hear about other people. The open fact remains that Mr Cleveland brought amazing inspiration to many, including myself. If he did anything that was not good, that is now between him and God, just as any wrongdoings by each of us is between us individuals and God Almighty. Stay Blessed Peeps!
What difference does it make what is was? He gave us great gospel music and paved the way for many other great gospel musician. I will just assume that you are church people being judgemental. That is against the rules or did you read the Word, ever.
I remember being at one of his concerts when I was a teenager (and saw him live as an adult, too). One thing I remember...regardless of both being held in a concert hall...he would tell the audience "we are in church" when they started to act like they were in another setting. He would remain you that you were in a worship service. That first concert as a teen had J. Cleveland, the original Caravans, and the Consolers! What an awesome night. And, now, over 50 years later, I remember it still.
his son well his adopted son said his father james wuz gay and he was mulested sometimes and his father had sex with other men its true so dont get mad at me please
How can you even think about putting Jesus into your judgemental remarks. He did good work, whoever and whatever you claimed him to be. I wonder if you knew him personally....ummmmm....
@jesusisgoodnews so what he turned everything to god and you have a nerve to judge someone why dont you look in the mirror before you say anything else! I dont care if the man was gay or not or had aids he is an awesome singer and always will be! RIP Rev. James cleveland! Do me and everyone else a favor STOP HATING!!
This is a great mini history. Thank you for posting it. I was once one of the singers with his young adult choir, Los Angeles Gospel Messengers and this man ate, slept and sung gospel. He gave so much to the gospel world.
