In the last three seasons Marit Bjorgen and Justyna Kowalczyk have contested 60 races on a head to head basis with Marit winning 49 and Justyna 11 comprising of 17-4 sprint and 32-7 distance. It is evident that Marit Bjorgen is in a class of her own.
@TheCwm63 Kowalzcyk is a late bloomer to the sport. She started skiing/racing in her late teens (fairly late for someone of a world class xc skier) and is just now coming into her own. I made another similar comment, but I will say it again, Kowalzcyk has a bigger engine, but is gonna have to work on her technique and will hopefully get her skis to be somewhat fast if she wants to beat Bjoergen in the future. If she does both of those things, she'll do to MB what MB is doing to her now.
@killer3232121 you clearly don't know what you are talking about. First of all, you have probably heard by now, they start based on their world cup rankings, with the current leader staring last. Secondly, if you knew a little more about skiing you would know that starting last and having the other skiers times to "go on" (you already know how they are doing, intead of having to "wait" for them to pass where you were earlier) is a big advantage. So technically this race was set up forkowalczyk

Why kowalczyk runned last, Bjoergen as the second since the end of a poor Italian as a third since the end? Because the run was set up specifically for Bjoergen, which thanks Italian women made up for precious seconds.
If Bjoergen is the best, shoul to start at the end, right?
'Norwegian tactics' - a caricature of the sport. And where is fair play?
@killer3232121 Obviously you are not very in to cross-country, and you defiantly lack something called knowledge: The one and only reason kowalczyk starts as number 1 in this competition, is that she is currently leading both the FIS World-Cup & FIS Distance-Cup, & Marit Bjørgen is second to her in the standings. Next time please check your facts & references before to comment or accuses anyone for fair play or tactics, it could probably save you some time.
@VmHolmenkollen2011 Ok, you're right, no I checked it. Many times recently I met with Norwegians fraud(not only in skiing), that I thought this setting was also not accidental. But it still does not change the fact that the race was not fair to Kowalczyk. Athletes should run on larger intervals between them. Then there would be no chance of catch up of the other runner, thanks this may to catch a few good seconds extra. Everyone should have equal chances, otherwise distorts a healthy rivalry.
@zynio26 I would not use the word "not" in this context. You must certainly remember that Marit Bjørgen actually out paced Longa in the race with at least 30 seconds, when she caught up with her. But yes it was mentally good for her to have her beside in the race, unlike to Justyna Kowalczyk, who had to pace her self alone, with no help, only the vision & the visibility of Marit in front of her. Anyway great race by both of them, I very impressed with a so close finish :)
We at Sports-HD Productions & VM Holmenkollen 2011 would like to congratulate both Marit Bjørgen & Justyna Kowalczyk, what a race, what great performance from both athlete & incredible finish from both :)
what a race, what a fight. Really tough girls!
