With that short wing and large exhaust and single vertical stabilizer, it definitely looks like an F-16. I would think that the area is a practice spot for all military aircraft or maybe he was just taunting the Navy, my Dad was an Air Force fighter pilot and the rivalry is very strong between the two services...... :)
Back in 1979 I (UK student) had spent 3 ridden weeks in an old wreck of an Oldsmobile travelling in the desert. Having managed to grind my way out of Death Valley without yet another hood flipping pipe explosion in my engine I hit the Panamint cruising slowly towards Johannesburg and safety at last. My peace was shattered by 2 huge explosions. I swerved off the road and plucked up the courage to look out the window. 2 orange dots were disappearing very low into the distance. Ha ha assholes!
@chanctonbury63 Thanks for the great comment! In talking to locals we found out that the fighter guys do enjoy giving us an extra bit of excitement out there. :)
That's when you turn around and Kelly McGillis is suddenly sitting behind you.

@sitarro55555 I honestly don't know. China Lake is a Naval installation so I just went with that.

@testpilot51
Well since all that's audible is engine noise I think music is better than nothing or the droning engine.
Of course you're free to turn the sound off if it's that bothersome.
