Sheeezussss.. Matt Lauer.. Sarah Lee Kessler the HOTTEST orthodox babe I've ever seen.. and RENEE HAMBLY... where the hell did she go.. I remember this show... and once some ABC soap opera actress guest hosted.. Liz Fox or Liz something from Loving.. I used to watch this show all the time.. just for Sarah Lee!
This is amazing, I remember watching this first episode the day it aired, staying home from school. Sara Lee Kessler was a babysitter of sorts for me as a kid. I'm not sure why I was watching WWOR all day long when I'd stay home from school. I guess the "I Dream Of Jeannie" and "Betwitched" reruns pulled me in. When did they get Richard Bey though? I could've sworn he was there from the start.
I can't believe there's clips of this show from when it started. It's amazing to see how it went from a legitimate credible news show to a jerry springer-esque talk show piece of garbage in such a short time. WWOR was always a "dump in a swamp" as Howard Stern always said though, so what could you expect. Thanks for the upload, Phil.
@thunderstruck665--Sara Lee actually checks out youtube from time to time and messaged me back when I posted these and thanked me. She was very nice and it was a nice surprise to hear from her.
Hi, Philly video fan! Thank you so much for finding and posting these "9BP" clips. They bring back great memories! To clear a few things up that have been raised in other posts here: WOR-TV became WWOR-TV in May 1983 when the FCC moved the station's license from NY to Secaucus, NJ. And yes, that was Joan Lunden doing a promo on Channel 9. Again, thanks for posting these videos...even if they do feature me with big 80's hair and shoulder pads! Best regards, Sara Lee Kessler

This is so bizarre - is this like Live with Regis + Kelly / Jon Stewart's Daily Show?
What a concept , ahead of its time~

Sara Lee Kessler was so hot! She was a total 80's babe! The set for 9BP was clearly the set for the Morton Downey Jr. Show

Didn't they bring Richard Bey from People are Talking back to replace Lauer? IIRC, this was the show that became the Richard Bey Show

Actually, April 20, 1983 was the date. Got a copy of the MDM from April with the change.

Matt didn't have much job security in the 80s. First was WNYW, then WCAU, then WNEV, I guess WWOR, and then WNBC then the Today show.

BTW, in 1989, channel 9 was WWOR, not WOR. They added another "W" in 1987.
