I've read all the comments below and can't believe the Americans think the way they do. Your economy is in tatters and your greed has ruined the economic situation of the rest of the world. You are despised around the globe for your superiority complex and interfere with other countries for your own worth. I'm glad I don't have an American passport, because I wouldn't feel safe travelling abroad.

@marcandsebe I'm American, and I can assure you, I am not greedy.I give as much as I can, I volunteer for my local food bank, and other charities. I do not have a "superiority complex" and if you consider buying imported groceries and vehicles from other countries "interfering with them for my own worth", I guess I am guilty of that. I also don't own a big SUV hence the reason I am watching this video. With people who think like you out there, I'm glad I don't have a passport too.
Did you hear the idiot that said tat European roads can't take large trucks... Man, have you ever been to Europe? For once, American roads shouldn't be full of SUV's since there is a big traffic problem in almost all major cities in US... In Europe you will find only few cities with bigger traffic problem, and that only for few hours per day(Like: Milano, Paris, London, etc.)

Nice to see another unsafe, tiny, piece of shit rice burner being sold for more than it's worth to all the gullible people who fall for "the world needs saving by driving tiny cars" bullshit.
Don't worry. I'll make sure that the coroner picks up all your body parts when you crash this tiny plastic box on wheels. And I'm sure the airbag will do a fine job of keeping your nose intact as it seperates from your face and lands on the pavement next to your leg. =)
Why dont u try searching "Toyota IQ crash test" And you will see that this car is probally much more safer than the peice of old shit you probally drive.
Get a life. This car is amazing and one day you will be forced to drive somthing like this!!!!!
Pssh. Every American I know drives clunky useless restored cars from the 1970.
Useless pieces of garbage that further pollute the planet. I'm will probably special order this car, seems like it can be used on the high on the slow lane quite well.
It's cool that this car is 117.5 inches long, and can still carry four passengers (albeit only if one or more is a child). It is shorter than the original Mini (which was 120.5 inches long), never mind the relatively huge (142.9 inch) BMW Mini, and still adequate for a young family commuting and shopping.
The low profile makes it better than a Smart.
I think rear safety will be good enough. I mean, how many accidents, especially in the city, involve being shunted at high speed by a Hummer?
Actually dumbass, I DID make an educated argument, you simply are too stupid and ignorant to have read and comprehended what I said. And now there are new crash ratings that have just been released to BACK UP what I have been saying about these small death traps -not safe, no bumper protection, more deaths involved. Try going to college and get an advanced degree like I did and then you will understand that when a plastic box hits a big rock..the plastic box will lose, you retard..lol.
So you have a degree in being an impolite dumbass wow I didn't know you could get a degree in that.. Anyway apparently I am not the only one who thinks your an idiot judging on the - scores you get but maybe it is you who need to go back to school bud since these cars have been tested by Volvo and Volkswagen (only the best testgrounds in the world but hey) and if they say the car is safe only god can intervene. but that's my opinion.
I was not replying to something you said, I was replying to something someone else said and did it in the same fashion as they did. Pay more attention next time and also look at the LATEST american crash ratings on these small deathtraps on wheels. Good day to you.
Actually you didn't. You see, lab tests are nowhere near as accurate as real world testing. Sure, in a lab the smart may not seem so pretty but the several crashes that have already occured in the US only contradict the IIHS statements. And remember, the IIHS is not a government firm, they're an Insurance Institute. The government firm NHTSA performs more real world testing like the euro NCAP tests where the smart shines.
you are probably one of those ignorant hicks who think size only matters. A Ford F150 is very unsafe since all pick-ups have tendancies to topple over if you take a corner to fast. jeeps and hummers may look like it's a brick on wheels but safety wise they are shit. ever seen a jeep cherokee collide with a volvo C30, my money is on the volvo since the driver and front passeger of the Jeep would be healevly injured if not dead and the volvo people would have mild to serious yet
And one more thing: Do you think Toyota will be able to bring back to life all the people who are going to die in this deathtrap when it slams into a regular sized automobile? All that shit about safety ratings, crumple zones and air bags will give little comfort to parents who lost their kid because they trusted a little metal box on wheels to protect their child and because Toyota is doing a fine job of brainwashing idiots like you into thinking it somehow has defied physics and gravity. STFU!
hey if you wreak the other person its your fault. what american cars earned a 5 star rating? better yet scion is also an American based company. you see only a handful amount of american vehicles making 5 stars.
it s pretty safe for it s size.. it s body is built for that..enter the toyota website for more details... but ofcourse even another car will get smashed up if it hits an american car
American cars LOL! Enjoy them while they last and detroy the planet with their V8 guzlers. Before slating the iQ for safety, you should go andlook at the EURO N-cap crash test results... go look, it will shock you... 5 full stars and it was crashed in the newer 2009 standards which are the hardest yet. Well done Toyota, 1st really interesting car for a long time and hope more to come!
Hey LessthanSHIT, why don't you crash your little iQ head on with a Ford F-150, Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Towncar and see how much all those tiny air bags help the folks inside that little cheap japanese deathtrap? This isn't Japan or Europe filled with tiny cars dumbass, America is the land of SUV's & Trucks, whether you like it or not, so all your EuroNCAP ratings and air bags won't help the people crushed inside that iQ. Toyota makes cheap cars too, being Jap don't change that.
Ironically, this IS Europe; home of sentient beings. And it also is the home of a little place known as London, a city that has an area of 658 square miles. To avoid congestion charge and constant reliance of the pumps (of which there are not many in central London anymore) I require a car that is small, economical and generally cheap for insurance and road tax.
I have no need for a V8, 5.6 litre Ford Engine that does 12 miles per gallon and has the reliability of....well an American car...
ive seen a smart car being hit by a big rig @ 55mph before and its structure still held its shit. the driver only had a broken arm but was able to walk away. either way technology is used on every car's frame and structure and extensivly used on subcompacts/micro cars on safty. but there is always going with a bigger vehicle but were only talking about city driving. i use an suv for long distance driving above 40 miles.
Do you realise the the whole world is basically laughing at Americans and the cars they STILL drive? We are nearly in 2010 and you are still driving cheap 1970's old fashioned looking cars. Your getting left behind badly. Come to somewhere like Europe and see how much further ahead we are!!
I know what it's like in Europe, and while it may be true that Europeans are ahead in the game as far as car technology, you are incorrect in thinking we all drive 1970's old fashioned cars here -The Toyota Camry is the #1 sedan here. You also have to understand that the reason Euro's drive small cars is because their roads can't handle our large cars. Yet, when they come to the USA, many of them fall in love with our larger cars and their luxury/safety. We enjoy larger cars!
america needs these small efficiently diesel cars getting 100 mpg period the big 3 need to build these cars at a much better quality and design.. then i would buy one
Could the big 3 build these cars at a much better quality and design? Í really doubt that. They don't seem to have been making the kind of cars that people really want or really need and have got themselves into pretty serious trouble.
Europe and Asia seem to be more alert.
Why wouldn't you buy this Toyota? What's wrong with it?
Because the rear bumper of this car is RIGHT behind the rear passengers, Toyota had to install rear air bags for protection. This is absolutely ridiculous & unsafe, as an airbag can only go so far in protecting you. I am for making smaller & more fuel efficient cars, but not at the cost of lives or safety. You can't cheat physics with an airbag, and especially on american roads filled with SUV's and sedans, even a Camry hitting you from the rear could kill your child or cause serious injuries.

If you want a cheap, small piece of plastic car like this to save u some gas money, go ahead..but don't complain when your in an accident in this cereal box of a car and are now permanently disabled for the rest of your life..all because u wanted to save a few bucks at the pump.
5 star EuroNCAP. 9 air bags. All stability technology under the sun included. Wider wheel base for better control. Safety cell designed to crumple AROUND passengers.
