ey Will, does djokovic have his wrists bent when he hits his backhands ? i cant tell, and can i have a little tip on how to drive my backhand? i dont have any option but to lob it when my opponent comes to the net..
superb 2 hander, just changing(or trying to change) from a single hand to a 2 hander at the min but struggling with consistency and the amount of footwork to get ready for the stroke, enjoying the feel when its going well but loving to see how its done from the big guys!
could watch it all day, would love to see how the balls flying from these strokes but no doubt deep!
@queenofcourt I switched to holding my left hand on the throat of the racquet. I like the control of it as I slide my left hand down to hit the two-hander. I am a right-handed of course
people are always saying that pros shots look armed or flat, but i swear if i could see any of those people hitting balls in person i guarantee they would get no where near the full arc, extension, and rotation of their racquets or their bodies... i guess in the end a tennis stroke is a very complex series of movements and someone who hasn't hit them many times just wouldn't understand the beauty in what a good stroke like this looks like- literally see how far his racquet travels in this video!
to observe the topspin djoker is putting on the ball, observe the very steep circular path his racquet travels, not his personal mannerisms in guiding the angle of the racquet face after contact. keep in mind the contact with the ball happens in a fraction of a second and it's only at that moment that the angle of the racquet face matters- i can guarantee you every pro has their racquet face more or less flat as that occurs.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but are the two-handed backhands Novak's hitting in this video clip hit relatively flat? It looks like he's cutting the ball halfway through, like he's not brushing over the ball that much. It could just be the angle that makes it look that way. I don't know. Let me know.
wth? he's closing the racquet head face, which initializes topspin, yet when he comes in contact, his racquet face becomes open. It's more like he's golfing the ball over each time he executes his shot
He uses a continental-almost-eastern backhand grip for his right arm and with his left arm he employs a semi-western almost eastern grip. He generates amazing topspin for a backhand shot due to his swing pattern that generates a fair amount of racquet head speed. One of the best two-handed backhands on tour.
Seems absolutely perfect.

ggreat technique , he has a very natural backhand no dude

I now know my mistakes. He swings through the backhand swing with his hips, and his upper body torso is still.

@kinglear ur right. his racquet face is neither closed or square. it's open!

odd slice.
instead of having one straight downward motion, he goes through a curving motion, similar to a one handed backhand.
very nontraditional.

what grip is he using?

@lechuz19 I second that! What is his backhand grip? Does he get much topspin on his backhand?

@amsd1231 When Novak hits one.

@181erob The only twohanded backhand that can even come close to being called beautiful is Safin's not this one.
amsd1231 7 months ago
@amsd1231 Safin, Agassi, Nalbandian...Davydenko's looks quite nice, too.

do yoou know tennis? lol Sorry no ofense but it was too good to let it go...
Everybody has to switch grip from forehand to backhand
plstrom 2 years ago
Please don't give false information. McEnroe played with one grip. It's called continental.
daraemkar 2 years ago
No. Old-school players like McEnroe and Edberg used one grip for their forehands, backhands, and volleys.

I wish you put up some backhands that were high and out of the easy strike zone. Good vid anyway.
