  • For the record, the BBW does loosen a bit after some opening and closing. It lacks the momentum for fast deployment, but mine opens one-handed just fine at a controlled speed. That thing was super tight when I first got it though. I almost blistered my thumb trying to get used to it.

  • These and similar just got banned from import into Australia, customs has declared any knife that can be opened one handed is a flick knife. WTF? So now what used to sell here for $30 is now being pushed for $120+ until stocks dry up. Then it's back to the old timer type knives. sigh.

  • I have had the bhw the biggest of the family and.that knife has been through hell and back. And still does great it would eaven cut sod on the job and still cuts great and sharpens well and believe me that sod will ruin a knife fast don't hesitate on this knife it rocks

  • I have obvious front to back and side to side movement on my BHW. Not bad enough to affect the performance but its annoying.

  • i have a select model and my side to side movement is like a lot

  • got myself the blw,and dude!the handle feels like it's gonna break when you grab onto it! the balance is horrible, heavyish blade, superlight handle, the lockback squeaks and the blade has only one washer and has much up and down play.even without liner lock the blade centering is completely off,and the pivot point can't be adjusted.the handle is slippery too.sorry nutn, but that knife is a FAIL for me.I'll throw it into an emergency pack or sth, hopefully never to be used.money NOT well spent!

  • @PaiRaiUno I have the same exact problem as you. I got the BLW and it opens like a mother. I can't adjust it so thats a downside. That being said I don't regret my purchase. Its a $15 knife. I will still use it. I would love one handed deployment but I can live with opening it out. The blade shape is amazing for me. Hopefully it losens up over the years.

  • Um so are the prices with or without shiping? To me the ones u mentioned sounded like without as it would be hella cheap otherwise. I got the medium one for $25 at a local store (price up I think due to the economy and I had them do some custom etchings on the handle, my initials in fancy letters haha)

  • not sure why you can't thumb it open without flicking the wrist. i have the same knife and it's no problem for me.

  • I have a few of these, and they are great. The only thing that I don't like is that they can't take much torsion (they can easily be broken with just hand pressure), which does limit their usefulness to me. I know it is a trade-off between weight and strength, but I just find that for my needs, I tend to favor strength over light weight. But for those times when I want light weight, these are a pretty good option.

  • 9:16 "i don't know if i got a stiff one or what"

  • I like these those woodland color knives.

  • Hey I got the mid sized one I skinned a deer with it :) it's a really good knife for the money

  • I just bought this knife and I was happy with what i got but with one exception. Its detent is too tight and it makes for troubled deployment. On two occasions i cut my thumb because of it. I also heard about other peoples bhws having the same problem. And it sucks not being able to adjust it too.

  • @jrobertsrhs mine also has that problem, but ive gotten used to it pretty much by now, so it doesnt bother me as much. impossible at first though! haha!

  • Just got the 285-283 set for just €20 in Sparta, Greece! The 283 is my new car key chain... weights like a feather! The 285 is for general use, bigger blade than my Leatherman...

    TOTALLY HAPPY!!!

VERY VERY WELL MADE even compared to LOT higher prized knives.

Dont know how long the plastic grip will hold.

  • I just bought the Nano bantam And it is very sharp for the size. im 13 and its my favorite knife of them all. And it is made in The USA . Why are yours made in china because i have all the bantam series and their all made in the U.S

  • i have the bhw, largest one, and after i put a mirror edge using a diamond stone , it cuts like butter through anything, plastic, thick nylon rope(with one cut through 1/2 in cord) and has kept its edge without touching up or sharpening , and all for a 19.98 dolloar knife (canadian) its actrally pretty great hahah, touching the edge on a buck steel, you can just sort of feel that heat treat , like it feels hard and good, unlike cheap steels when it just has weight to it. so, so far 100% ;)

  • Just bought the Buck Bantam for EDC/work purposes (Sporting Good Store). Should I be worried about it being put together in china, even if it advertises that the parts are "Made" in the USA?

  • @dirtydeedz161 That is the other way around, the new models are "made in the USA", "USA" is stamped on the blade under the BUCK logo. They are made with foreign made parts and put together in the USA, before that they were made in China. Those chinese models dont have the "USA" on the blade.

I think the quality is the same no matter where it's made.

  • is it made in the us? cuz i was watching another review about this knife and it was made in china.

  • @jrobertsrhs Old versions were China made but they're USA made now

  • I've been using my bbw for over 2 years, and it's still showing no sign of dullness.

  • This knife lock just failed on me today and cut me pretty bad. Its funny but I will never buy a cheap blade again

  • Ha bbw

  • You Americans are lucky bastards! Shit costs about three times as much here in Europe!

  • @B525shot true tht knives that are american made cost soooo much here in the uk its actually a fukin rip off

  • @clarkie0708 well, I would understand that, since shipping isn't for free, but I live in Switzerland and even the famous swiss army knives are way more expensive here than in the USA and one dollar is now approximately 0.86 Swiss Francs, so that makes it even cheaper in America. Some guns and knives here are about 3 times as expensive as in the USA.

That totally pisses me off -.-

  • going to pick one up this week end the biggest one the black one for 20 dollers gotta love the price

  • I use mine as a edc and as a second blade for the woods. I have used it for a weekend bushcrafting after leaving my Mora at home. It held up fine. Chopped Split and Cut all weekend held a good edge and sharpened EZ.

It is a bit silppery so a lanyard is recomemded. It sits by my keys and wallet so I do not forget it when I leave the house.

  • Bought large camo at Bass Pro Shop for 27.00. I chose to pay more because these knives have a reputation for poor blade alignment. There were about 12 in bubble packs on the rack, so the blade centering could be checked visually BEFORE PURCHASE. There was only one that had reasonable (not perfect)blade centering!?! No up and down play. There is going to be slight side to side on every knife because they are all plastic around the pivot joint.

Good knife for inexpensive EDC and self defense.

  • i bought one thanks for putting up the video

  • @nutnfancy - I don't mind using a bit of wrist action to flick open a knife, I can do it just as fast as most people can use a switchblade (at least with my folders, I prefer fixed blades!). ;)

  • i dont care wat you do to 440a its not gonna be that goodi like 420 HC alot i have a leatherman fuse in 420HC and a kershaw blur plain ege i do landscaping and carpentry it holds an edge great for about a week of abuse and it touches right up on steel i plow snow in the winter and it has great corosion resitanse

  • Anybody else read the title and think it said "Batman" knife?

  • @foodlovingpig - NO, btu ist undresatndbale hwo yuo cna tihkn taht bceaues fo teh wya teh hmaun barin stroes wrods!!!

  • very cool knife... nice & cheap. I have the BHW with the camo handle... love the look of it but it has a really stiff point in the pivot at about the halfway deployed point. it makes one handed opening pretty much impossible or very slow. i've tried oiling the pivot & working it but the stiff point persists. hopefully it will work out over time.. still love the knife. thanks for the great review nutnfancy.

  • I have the largest model, the BHW. Very sharp, overall a great value--but it's got a pretty bad blade centering issue; the blade leans all the way to one side, nearly touching the liner. Haven't sent it back to Buck yet but will probably do so soon.

  • I just got the larger one today but its made in the USA so I guess its a new model or something.

  • lol I just wanna have fun with you

  • Thank you very much for this review. I was going to buy the Bantam BLW anyways, but now that nutnfancy talked about how good it is, I think I'm more excited to get this than anything else.

    Thanks again :)

  • I have the largest model with the black handle. Was extremly stiff opening for some time but it did slowly start to loosen up with time and use. Steel blow past my expectations, maybe due to the grind. I found mine at Walmart by accident.

  • i have the smallest one and yes its very stiff kinda hate the knife

  • The handle is thermoplastic... which is what Im worried about. If anyone would be able to give me a lowdown about its durability, that would be great

  • the new bantams aren't honey combed in the handles and are made in the usa.

  • my dad has the largest Bantam. im gonna get a 119. i currently have a Schrade Extreme Survival knife. Yes its from walmart. best knife ive ever had.

  • i have the buck 482 b really nice and i love it

  • LOL i have had the largest and the smallest and i got rid of the largest becuase i didnt like it and i love the smallest one more than most of my knives

  • I've had a semi-serrated Buck Bantam for quite a few years, it came with a Smith's Knife Sharpening kit at Basspro, and that little bugger lasted me till I got my Gerber 3.5 Presto.

  • I lost the bbw at my friends house in his woods

  • @greenpanther1000 Was she hot?

  • @Supermassively I died laughing.

  • Comment removed

  • I lost one of these at my friends house in his woods.

  • i had a buck knife dont know wat kind it is but i do know it is a buck and it looks like a ka-bar dozier and has the same handle as the buck bhw and has 440c stainless steel plz tell me if u have one or know wat it is plz i plan to buy anouther it is a very reliable knife its just i got a little rough with it and it got a little blade play

  • @TheUV123

it might be the 110, or "folding hunter" has nice wood grip slabs on brass, heavy, about 4 inch blade? usually comes with a leather case

  • @seribas

no i know its not that cuz it wasn't like it and plus it had plastic/rubber handle's and the blade was like 2 1/2 to 3 in. so idk im goin to check it out later cuz i loved that knife

  • hey nutn... i was going to get the big one but uk laws say no so im getting the bbw.. got confused with the nano also but thats tiny! still hope it will serve me well with a 2.75" blade.. great review again!

  • ive the bottom 1

  • Buck's website might be out of date, but these are all indeed now made in USA. Same with the Bucklite series, USA production now, no more imported ones.

  • I have one of these, it reminds me of a certain knife three times the cost - zytel handle, clip point, shaving sharp, pinned pivot point, no liners, lock back. Can anyone guess ?

  • Buck has moved production of all Bantams to the USA. They also have lengthened the clip screws to better hold the clip on, so if you have an old one and the clip fell off ect. contact them and they will fix it for free. Buck has the best customer service in the entire knife industry by the way. The new USA production Bantams are a couple dollars more and well worth it as the 3 or 4 I've handled have smooth deployment and nice lock up.

  • @Ultona According to bucks website these knives are still produced over seas and imported here to the US

  • @Ultona mice fel off in like three days im tryin to take it back and for the same price i can get a gerber paraframe and it is a sweet knife i had one for goin on two n a half years and i lost it one nite i was drinkin but ya i wish i didnt buy my bantam and should of bought a nother paraframe im goin to get another paraframe in the mid of september hopefully lol

  • hey nutn, i'm getting a bucklite soon. you think it's worth the money? 25$?

  • i have the small one it is really easy to flick open

  • Love the black buck. Picked one up and I think its great. Perfect size for me. Thanks for the review. It helped me out.

  • So... Ontario Rat 1 vs Buck Bantam BLW vs Xivar Explorer. :) I can't decide...

TRUST ME!!!!!!

  • @peeker19 blah blah blah, your the only one who has a problem with YCS

  • What can this knife be used for?

  • I payed about 30$ for the two larger ones.

  • i got the one in the middle, and it is a very nice knife, i carry it wit me all the time, and its come in handy quite a few times... high quality knife, i recommend it.

  • i dont kno if i just got a bad one but i got the BHW and despite me being a fairly strong person it is basically a 2 hand opener. i have never felt such a stiff opening folder

  • You should do a review about the Bucklite max series. They are cheap and amazing, without the shit fold

  • i had a buck bhw the 3.75 inch knife the clip fell off on 2 of them though, but very nice knife great steel and im probly going to get another and just jb weld the clip on, oh and by the way you can use just your thumb to open it, at least after about a week of using it when it gets loose, i sprayed it with some wd40 before i started using it and that loosened it up i never have to use wrist flick on it just thumb.

  • i bought the middle one a while ago now, feels good to know that i bought a good knife!

after seeing this video, i bought the larger one BHW from amazon last week!

as always great review, and great knives hehe!

  • I got my BHW for buying 300 shotgunshells (I don't remember the brand).

I'm pretty happy with it but I am afraid to sharpen it, cause I don't want to mess it up. If anybody has some ideas, please let me know.

  • if i sharpening this knife is the color going turning to yellow like a brass ?

  • I carry a blw every day and it's very tough for its wieght and I use it alot. I also carry an Opinal 8 for when I need super sharpness,

  • On my BLW I had to reduce the angle of the cutting edge for it to be reasonably sharp. I only need this knife to be sharp enough to easily sharpen a pencil. If I want extreem sharpness I use my Opinal 8 which I also carry.

  • How do you get to know so much different kind of knives ? I would just stick to two to four different blade and keep up with them each year, after all I think they are all the same in utility (tool) unless you have tons of money to throw away on collecting tools. I know its completely addicting.

  • these knives are made in china. i had the large version and the pin in the pivot point fell out with in a month of buying it. i got nothing against buck or nutn but these are junk in my opinion

  • I was looking for a review on this knife and found your name attached , well that's all the review I need, (didn't) even watch..If you did a review on it than I know its worth buying!! Headed back to the store now!

  • Thankyou so much I finally know what my knife is called I bought it three years ago without keeping the packaging

  • hi thx for the video i know how muck u paid in the states. here in canada at wall-mart i paid 18.90 something pluus taxne ways, i didnt get to see it yet except in the store and i only checked the the lock and blade

i probly wouldnt get it because of the pinning. but i have not used it maybe its a great knife.

p.s i definitely would of not bought it if i knew it was a hollow honey comb handle. but for 18 dollars cant go wrong. thanks for this video, all of your others, and the ones to come.

  • my local shop had a buy the big one for $20 and get the small one free.

how could you not, I have been rockin it for three years every day, and its still strong

  • I just bought the mid size a couple of days ago. I agree with you; it's a lot of knife for such a low cost. You really can't go wrong with it and certainly feel like you got more than what you paid for (a nice surprise now-a-days). I bought it for 14 bucks (Canadian) at Wal-Mart. Good review.

  • I just picked up one of these knives last week for 10 bucks at an Academy here. I can't believe you have a review on them already! I was going to send you a message telling you what a good blade I thought they were for the money, and I go and check your page, and sure enough, you've already done it. :)

  • i hate these knives, i have the mid sized bantam and i can not stand it. maybe they just dont fit my POU but my opinion is dont waste your money.

  • I got the BLW and it's stiffer than hell. Can't even one hand deploy it's like push through thickening cement. Worth $5 imo.

  • really? thats funny I use mine every day for three years now on every task from popping my hood to stripping wire to gutting geese all the way to self defense.

and for $15 bucks thats cheaper than a lunch.

  • @Marachuan unless you buy a $5 footlong XD

  • lol touche

  • I bought a Buck 285 Bantam BLW and a 283 Nono Bantam for only $10 at a local fleet store. I was shocked! Great knives so far

  • Dude, I love your videos!

If you like a bargain, you should check out the line of Bucklite Max knives, if you haven't yet.

They are similar to the Bantam line but made in the USA. In fact, I found they are usually cheaper than the Asian made Bantams...

But with your knowledge or knives, you've probably known of them for a while.

  • Oh, btw nutn, the clip screws only go to the metal, not to any steel, so the clip loosens up quickly.

  • I bought my large for 14 bucks at kmart. AMAZING knife. the blade is so sharp!

  • can you even spell knife you retard

  • Good knife for me.I had buck hunter one and only one thing that i missed wos one nad opening otion this knife do have it;)And that blade shsspe

  • I really hope I'm not the only one here who doesn't know what EDC is :S anyone care to shed some light?? Thanks!

  • Every Day Carry -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • @nutnfancy i kno nutns bussy but y dosent he anser any comments? just a quriory

  • @hamickboy Not trying to be mean or anything, but maybe its your spelling?and also i see nutnfancy or veri answering a lot of questions, really cant blame the guy for not having the time. From what i understand this is a weekend hobby for him and theres already a TON of work that goes into TNP. I mean look at these vids he rarely misses a single detail, there edited really well, and it looks like he spends an hour on each description of the video. BTW big thanks to all that are involved!

  • @idiut ur name is cool haha

  • Great video, really like those buck vantages, i like these too, but a knife you should review in my opinion is the benchmade mini rukus or the regular rukus, those knives look really nice!

  • "i don't know if i got a stiff one or what, but it may soften up with use"... interesting way to put it.

  • lol

  • i just ordered one on amazon for 15 the large

  • My Grandpa has a buck knife from 2004 that looks like this knife but it has wooden handles and it's made in the USA. I can't find one like it ANYWHERE?

  • sounds like a buck 110 pretty common and nice knife

  • no its not the 110 i have a 110 and looks nothing like it, not a 112 either, looks just like this same blade shape and everything, but nice wooden handles. maybe it was a limmited edition, I don't know?

  • i got a bantam blw made in the us at wal-mart for 16 bucks canadian, but it does not have the wooden handles

  • Follow up: I had to use my US made 284 Bantam to cut a lot of carpet today. It worked like a champ. After hundreds of feet of cutting a tough, nylon berber, I finally felt like the edge was starting to wear. The only other knife I had handy was a typical no-name, China made folder with a 440 blade, but brand new and sharp. Within a few yards of cuts, it was begging for mercy. I sharpened the Bantam's 420HC up again quickly and went back to work. It really is good blade material.

  • your a racist douchebag, china makes good knives too. as nutnfancy would say""quality control is what is important"''

  • he's not being racist, maybe the quality control on that particular blade was bad. i personally trust the quality of american made knives more than imported knives. if a person is making a decent paycheck, they will make better knives.

  • @sergeanthaddock

Not a racist at all. I have lots of excellent Chinese made gear. I like Chinse food. I like Chinese people, at least the ones I know. Simply reporting where something was made and how it performed. Buck makes excellent knive in China, and I wouldn't hesitate to own one, but if I have a choice between supporting a U.S. job and a Chinese job, I'm going to support the U.S. job, all other things being equal.

  • I have a medium sized bantam, and it's deployment is not as fast as your's, Mr. Fancy. This may be because of poor quality control, or your's could just be broken in. However, for the price, it's more than satisfactory, and I would recommend it hands down to anybody who needs a low budget edc blade.

  • werfgsfsf:

I agree, the deployment on the bantam sucks. However, It has very little movement up and down or side to side on the blade. The 420HC blade holds an edge well, and for that decent blade steel and extreme low cost, I find it satisfactory. I wish they had stronger and better textured handle, but, again, for the price, I think it's fine.

  • "Mr. Fancy" lol

  • does anyone find the blade wobbles? like mine wiggles up and down, its not the locking mechanism, its like the whole things moves in the handle..

  • This would be a great value knife if there were some changes.

    1) Make the handle solid instead of skeletonized so it doesn't flex inward.

    2) Make the handle solid instead of skeletonized so gunk doesn't build up inside and it's easier to clean out without disassembling.

    3) Make the handle solid so it has better balance. Balance isn't only good for throwing knives.

If it weighed an ounce more with a solid handle it would be well worth it.

  • I should add, it can't be disassembled since it uses rivets instead of screws, making it all the more useful that the inside not have nooks and crannies that collect debris. Even denim lint from my jeans builds up in this knife.

Mine is the 284, it is stamped made in China but I can't see any manufacturing flaws. The blade is halfway mirror polished but not as well as buck blades from past knives I've owned. Still has vertical striation tool marks on it for lack of a better description.

  • nice knives buck makes good ones for the money... i dont understand the whole deal about knives weight because i carry a 6'' ti lite that probably weighs over 6 ounces and i dont even feel it on me

  • Great review. I wanted an EDC/small game/lightweight deer stalking knife. The 285 is ideal.

Bass Pro Shop had them on sale. The 285 model on the shelf there says MADE IN THE USA! (package an blade both marked USA) . The 284 and 286 model were marked Made in China.

I suspect this is part of Buck's moving more production back to the U.S. now that they've moved from Cali to Idaho.

$16.94 for a great quality, U.S. made knife! Woot!

  • strange, the one I bought is a 285 and it clearly has a china stamp on the blade. Maybe some were made here and others in china.. I feel ripped.

  • I also have a 285 but mine was made in Taiwan. Thats strange that Buck would make the same knife in 3 different places???

  • I bought a bantam at kmart today(nearly had to break someones arm to get them to the sports counter) for $10... first impressions.. its cheap made... also made in china.. the handles feel like I might snap them if I squeeze it.. also the rivets aren't very good there's so much forward and side to side play I think the lock might collapse if I use it for anything more than maybe cutting rope.

good for average edc but take something else if you think you are going to be doing anything heavier.

  • Just picked up the Bantam BHW on your reccommendation. $16.99 at Gunnies in Orem, UT. I've got it in my pocket now. Definitely a great, and very usable knife for the money.

  • You suck dick dumb fag.

  • Awesome video Nutnfancy tysm,But can any1 reccomend A high value Survival knife?

  • BUCK knives are the best,i got a great collection of it

  • is this a tatical knife or a common?

  • how long is the blade on the small one?

  • Is this type of steel stainless or will it rust?

  • The bhw and blw blades are not made of stainless steel but instead of carbon steel it will rust but it will not go dull for a while so you don't have to sharpen the blades so much.

  • The buck bhw and blw are carbon steel blades and will rust. BUT it will not go dull for a while which means that you do not have to sharpen them a lot.

  • how long is the blade

  • largest is 3.75 inches

  • Thanks a mill man ima gonna buy the Blw

  • I bought a nano-bantam last week,and its an awesome little knife!!

  • bought the BHW in CAMO!

  • I got 2 of these today the smaller/medium one they are pretty nice for $10 knives!!

  • I got mine yesterday. I live in Portugal and it was 31 euros for the BLW. Even so i love it, thank you nutnfancy!!!! It cames sharp but after i will sharp it then I will see if it's realy good.

  • i got the BLW at wal-mart for 8$ it was on sale

    amazing blade for the money!!!

  • Bought BHW model in black.

The grip is nice, the blade seems good and came razor sharp. Blade had a bit of vertical and side to side play.If you force the blade sideways, it bends a lot where its pinned. You see plastic bending.

Does not lock in folded position very well, you can pull it out a bit til the tip is showing, with no spring action.

Overall I am disapointed with this $40 knife, but this is due probably to high expectations, and I probably got a bad sample.

  • today i go to walmart to pick up some armo...too bad they don't have that in stock. But mean while i saw this blade(the midsize one) for 14 canadian dollar....omg....not on the internet but in local walmart here in toronto....

you know what, i'm amazied by the quality of this 14 dollar.....it looks like something 40+ dollar, and with a good looking blade shape...

The finish of the steel, i mean the polish is not as near as my coldsteel but hey, for 14 dollar, what can you expect more?

  • Nutnfancy or TNP'ers I have a question for you. I bought the blw today and the first thing I did when I tried to open it was cut my thumb (the one I was pushing the thumb stud with) because I failed to open it completely...umm...yeah I'm pretty new to knives but It really seems like this blade is overly stiff. It takes one hell of a wrist flick to open it and I can't do it all in one motion.. Is it because of the lockback design or is there something I can do to help this problem?

  • If there is not a ajustable pivot screw, there is not much you can do. It may break in over time. You could try some lube in the pivot area. If it is a an all plastic handle I don't know if I would use WD-40 on it.

  • I tried rem oil. Not working. I'm going to try WD-40.

  • did you break it in? im haveing the same buck bantam problem! im drenching it in WD-40 and stretching the lock back

  • I'm going to try that too..hope it works.

  • Ah The buck bantamn what to say about this knife. Great knife. Comes sharp looks kool and is a good buy. Sadly though the one i purchased came with serious side to side play. I only realised just how much when while batoning it the handle scale popped out on me. the rivet didn't pop out but it definiley isn't flush with the knife now. So im dissapointed to say the least. Still works though.

  • well you shouldnt go around batoning with this knife anyway haha

  • i have the buck bbw and mine is also very stiff, however it is still a very good knife i love it, it came extremely sharp and i'm going to make it my new EDC knife

  • hey did it break in (buck bantam)

  • mine still hasn't broken in yet, but then again i haven't used it for months, my new EDC is the Spyderco Tenacious

  • I've had the largest one since November, and I really love it. Best EDC knife I have.

  • i just bought the buck bantam bhw 286 the newest bantam for like 40 bucks its an amazing knife

  • i bought the biggest one for 30 euro's in a outdoor shop in holland

  • i got the smallest one in that camo set but its still pretty big

  • jus bought that knife for 10 $!!

  • buck makes good knives,. but i must say. those chinesse ones are not all that..

but hey there pritty cheap..but nuthing to trust u live on in a emergency situation

    good vid keep um comming

  • I got the 284 bantam, this is the smallest, I carry it in my pockets pants and believe me it's a nice gents knife, very light, very sharp, easy to deploy with my thumb, very happt with it. The only thing I dislike it's my pinky does not get a good grip however I put a paracord loop in the knife and this gives me good hold putting my piny on the loop.
