That snake being eaten has been portrayed on some programmes as being more or less invincible because of the power of its venom (the most poisonous one throughout Africa) and yet this brid made short work of it.
Hardly true. It's a young mamba, and they definitely have to watch out for predators. They get killed by birds of prey, honey badgers, and even other snakes, like snouted and forest cobras. Size definitely matters, you wouldn't see a secretary bird do this with an adult mamba at 10 feet.
@chiconspiracy. I beg to differ. No matter how powerful it's venom is or the length of its body I doubt if a determined Secretary Bird could be beaten by this snake. Also the small head of the Mamba wouldn't be able to withstand the savage blows from this bird. These are powerful enough to break a human'a arm.
If you have doubts. This was copied off the Animal Facts for Black Mamba website: Black mamba hatchlings are around 51cm long, and greyish-green in colour. They are independent immediately and can catch prey the size of a small rat. Within a year they reach 2m. Young mambas are eaten by mongooses, and even adult mambas are eaten by the secretary bird and larger species of eagle.
And the mamba in the video is much smaller than 2 meters. I'm speaking of a fully grown adult, at 3m or more. One that size would be too much for a secretary bird even, and no eagle would mess with that.
def one of the coolest looking birds out there. its like a raptor

@chiconspiracy,
Large eagles such as the golden eagle will go after any reasonable foe, including large snakes.
