  • Boy was a fuckin' handful as we grew up together.

  • this song gets me off;)

  • Well Warren is the man for incorporating such rude/crude stuff and making it sound nice, thats what defined him

  • wait a second.... this is a pretty dark song never really realized it till now

  • Enjoy every sandwich <3

  • I have both "A Quiet Normal Life, The Best Of Warren Zevon," and "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, The Anthology," which is a 2 CD collection and that song is on both of the albums. Love that song. I was just a little boy not excitable but little boy when it came out. Way to go Warren. May you rest in peace.

  • One of the best albums in my lifetime!

  • @TheCynline which one?

  • @bradmonium1 Excitable Boy, but I like virtually all of WZ's stuff!

  • amazing song!!!!

  • such a dark and disturbing song..it's soo good..one the greatest song writers

  • Law and Order BLU

  • I love my parents for taking me to a WZ concert when I was a kid

  • Probably the funniest lyrics I've ever heard. HAHAHA. Gotta love Warren. :)

  • @MrJukeshoe Its actually a pretty dark song....

  • @facnypantsman23 You don't say! :-|

I guess I've got a dark sense of humor.

  • I loved when my teacher wrenched off my headphones as 1:30 came around the corner loud as hell. Her face was both shock and the very image of frustration and hate that I can possibly paint for you. XD

  • HA HA! Gotta love Warren's sense of humor. LOL Back-up singers top it off. No "Wall of Sound" here....or Spector. : )

  • @kneapoe51 Linda Ronstadt and Jennifer Warnes

  • @jpat1959 Thanks...Quite a duo there. Appreciate the info. : )

  • NICE TUNEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

  • Like if you heard about this from Smosh!

  • 30 seconds into the song: "ohh..." (dismay)

60 seconds into the song: "OH!" (alarm)

1'30 into the song: "OHOHOHOHO F***K"

by the end of song I'm looking around feeling totally creeped out! LOL

    Brilliant!!

  • Oops I just disliked this by accident. I liked it, so hopefully that reverses it!

  • Reminds me of my childhood, good times... *suspicious grin*

  • Love Warren <3

  • 1st time listening "Oh well this is a happy song!"

    2nd time listening "WTF??!!!"

  • This song makes me think of Tommy from Goodfellas. He was just an excitable boy!

  • 5 people don't know how good it is to dump the pot roast all over their chest!

  • my best friend dedicated this song to me many, dam years ago. Still excitable. Buddy still rocks. Love you Warren Zevon!

  • You know the 60's was the height of great rock music. But Mr. Zevon - he is the reason I don't criticize 70's rock. Some musicians came with a pocketful of original songs & creativity that stood toe to toe with the best of the 60's. Zevon is one of those boys. (OK if you count his work as Lyme & Cybelle -- he too is a 60's rocker. But his name was "made" as Warren Zevon -- and that was the 70's). This track is one of his classics. RIP & thanks Warren for leaving these songs behind for us.

  • poor suzie..

  • @MYCATSEGA

    the bitch had it coming

  • Just give him some Ritalin--he'll be fine.

  • Don't like this song? I'd like to dump pot roast all over your chest!!

  • classic.

  • This may be the best demonstration of musical irony there is

  • great tune- read every HST book they were good friends...

  • Warren was a great great writer, musician and a fabulous singer, so sorry he passed away.. much too soon...

  • A fun song by a guy who wrote so much more, I miss his sense of humor

  • Hey, he's just an excitable boy! No big deal!

  • @kingjtl08 oh and he raped little suezie

  • funniest part of the song is the backup singers (linda ronstadt and jennifer warnes i believe) cooing "excitable boy" while warren's singing about rape and murder and mayhem.

  • ok can some one tell me which year was this in ?

  • @pragz4muzik 1978

  • pfff. xD

oh god, this was one of my favorite songs as a kid fan of Warren Zevon.

I didn't have the inclination to hear the lyrics (i just found the music so damn catchy).

It's one of those songs that sounds positive at first, but then it turns out that it has a dark message to it. x-)

  • “He took little Suzie to the Junior Prom, excitable boy, they all said. And he raped her and killed her, then he took her home, excitable boy, they all said.”

  • What i love about warren zevon is his ability to write music that didn't have an certain agenda. We need more music like that today.

  • Warren Zevon You da man! RIP.

  • "and he dug up her grave and built a cage with her bones...he's just an excitable boy" lololol love the happy big gay boat cruise saxaphones too, nice juxtaposition

  • sounds like an episode of Special Victims Unite

  • “He took little Suzie to the Junior Prom, excitable boy, they all said. And he raped her and killed her, then he took her home, excitable boy, they all said.”............?

  • @randykiller1000 that's kind of the point of the song. The whole time his behavior is dismissed as "excitable" up until he does something horrible.

  • Listen for Linda Ronstadt and Jennifer Warren in the background vocals during the oooh aaahs.

  • I love Warren Zevon. I remember the first time I heard it and I'm like oh this is catchy then the f-ed up lines come and my expression turns to O____o

  • what.the.fuck.

  • wow, now people are to lazy to write a simple "thumbs up if you are here becauso of smosh"? It's enough to comment a simple "smosh"? C'mon!

  • I'm suing Warren Zevon for defamation of character, I didn't make a cage, I made a toolbox.

  • smosh

  • @mimsy8i What smosh video was it?

  • @toymachineskater96 smosh pit

  • @mimsy8i You know what brought me here? Actually liking this guy to begin with -- everyone stop flaunting the fact that all of the culture you consume comes at the recommendation of an internet celebrity -- it's embarrassing.

  • @UnknownNilheim okay well they brought me brought me here 2 months ago and i stopped caring 2 months ago

  • @HaxorGlide It's about a guy with SERIOUS ISSUES, but everyone is just like "whatever. He is just 'excitable'."

  • @HaxorGlide

It means a genius songwriter thought he could write a catchy tune about serious matters, and get it played on the radio.

No one ever listens to the words anyway.

It also means that Warren Zevon was Death Metal 20 years ahead of his time, but has never been given any credit.

  • @neohip some of the most popular songs on the radio people never really knew the lyrics. Most people have no idea "Lola" is really a man, for one.

  • @joeygsmom dammit! I've been dating her for three weeks now!

  • @hunyakaning lol as long as you two are happy :-P

  • @neohip I'd hardly call it death metal. Waren was just one of a kind and wrote about issues that some others were writing about but did it in an origianl, funny way like all his songs.

  • @Warbrain88

In the filk community there's a subgenre of songs called "ose" -- songs dealing with death, destruction, doom, and despair. (Ose. Ose. MOROSE.)

This song is what filkers would call "cheery-ose".

  • @MsCactusWren I don't know much about filk, but I have also heard it listed as an example of "Lyrical Dissonance" in tvtropes.

  • society must compensate

  • @HaxorGlide It's supposed to sound nice and beautiful at the beginning, but becomes a bit sickening later. It's sickening because the music's so soft and the way he sings it is so innocent, even though he killed a girl got sent to a looney asylum and putting her bones in a cage. ^_^

    Good song anyway ^_^

  • College. Fall 1978. Along with all of the drugs, booze, sorority girls, came this album- a must play that we partied to for hours on end. From the first chords of "Johnny Strikes Up the Band" to the final sounds of "Tenderness on the Block" everything between is top shelf. Thank you Warren for the memories you'll give me for the remainder of my life. One of the best fucking albums ever.

  • This song is fucking hilarious. Only Warren Zevon could make something like this.

  • @HaxorGlide I heard it's about a serial killer. But don't think too hard about it. Listen to the man below me and enjoy.

  • @HaxorGlide It means you should just sit back, listen, and enjoy it my friend.
