that's because the traditional grip is not usefull for every genre or type of music. If your friend played rock, that's why, and also 2 yeasrs of practice with the traditional grip, is not enough to develope it. thanks, take care

If you actually paid more attention to it you would find that traditional grip allows for a wider range of dynamic ghost notes. Its all about touch. Also, JoJo Mayer says one main reason that he plays traditional is that it brings out a second personality in his drummin with his left hand in traditional grip

although I do prefer hearing that kind of speed on the bass pedals, it's even more impressive then

and the technical methods of drum playing, listening to extremely complex rhythms, for me at least, is the most impressive thing. because you can be fast as hell, but it doesn't matter if you can't play incredible beats and rhythms

I agree. Complex rhythms are far more interesting to listen to (and try to play by yourself) than the usual "straight-up". Textures, Gojira and Meshuggah - to name a few - are always fun trying to follow and learn. Speed isn't even half of what drumming is about ^^

i agree with you!! but drumming requieres tecnique and tecnique developes speed! every groove requieres rudiments that has to be playing in a diferent tempo! also if you're playing a fast jazz or a fast song if you don't develope your tecnique that develope your speed you won't be able to play.
