Hehe...I used to have The Sims 2 to make movies. It sucked so much. No effects, no good props, bad camera movement and many more.
When I got The Movies, I was very much impressed. No offense, I hate it how people make The Sims 2 movies...They're so cheesy. Really, if they like making movies then they should buy this game.
I also hate how they're popular on Youtube (really, like hundreds of thousand of views and they're highly rated). The Movies on Youtube are not popular at all.
More time-consuming, but simple once you know how. In Movie-Making Mode, in any scene featuring your Star's character, drag your Star over to the clothes-hanger icon on the right to access the Makeover screen for that scene. Dress up your Star in the desired costume, hairstyle and makeup, then save it as a Custom Costume before you exit. This method is ideal if you want your Star's character to appear in more than one costume during your movie.
You'll need to do the same thing for each scene of your movie, and apply your Custom Costume(s) to your Star(s) in every scene, using the Makeover screen.
You also need to use this method to dress your Extras in Custom Costumes, so that their costumes don't keep switching between scenes.
Once you're done, all your actors' characters should stay in the desired Custom Costumes for the whole movie.
While working on scenes in Movie-Making Mode, scroll through your actor types in the top left corner, until you reach the selection menu for Leading Actor/First and Second Supporting Stars/Extras. Drag the mannequin icon onto your unneeded extra, and he either becomes a mannequin or vanishes, depending on your preference selections on the right (mannequins can be turned off or on as desired). Don't worry, mannequins will not appear in your final movie.
In the setup screen of Movie-Making Mode (three Stars, title, genre, etc.), drag your Star's icon over to the clothes-hanger to access the Makeover screen for the movie. Dress up your Star in the desired costume, hairstyle and makeup, then click the chechmark to exit when you're done. For each scene, your Star should now automatically appear in the desired costume, hair and makeup.
hey can i ask sommething ? well i make in sand box movies cuz there i can make movies fast and you know no scene decade and fast build but i am nervous that i dont know how the f..k to make those crews to be great
You need to play the game in Story Mode right through to the last awards ceremony in 2005 in order to unlock sets and scenes for Sandbox Mode. However, if you do a Google search (YouTube no longer allows the posting of URL links in these comments boxes), you can find an unlocking "cheat" that will let you access everything, including the sets earned by winning those hard-to-get Special Achievement Awards. Hope that helps.
You can also find various cheats online that will boost the experience of both your Stars and Staff (Crew, Writers, Builders, Janitors, etc.) and even improve your Script Quality and your Stars' Moods.
Your very talented, did you go through the sandbox, or did you just play the game through? Did you do the script or did you get it from the script writing department? Either way this video was well done.
(Making your own movies in Story mode is not recommended unless you have a lot of patience. Stars can throw tantrums and wander off the set for a drink in Story Mode, and sometimes retire halfway through your shoot, leaving you to reshoot the whole thing with a new Star. Occasionally, the whole crew will take a big long break in the middle of shooting. Too many things can go wrong with your movie in Story Mode.)
hey im in 1999 movies going great...one problem how do i move things my lot isnt big enough i need space for a wild west street in my new movie i either wanna take out one bar or...please help
Pick up one of your builders and hover over a building you want to move. Two icons will appear side by side next to that building. Drop your builder on the Move icon if you want to move that building to another location, or on the Sell icon if you want to delete it. The rest is easy, the same as when you're first building your lot at the beginning of the game.
You can upload your own original compositions, no problem.
When you edit your movie within the game's post-production suite, just leave the music bar empty, and trash the default track that's already there.
Uploading copyrighted music - different story. You're always welcome to give it a go, but you do so at your own risk, and you're not allowed to post those movies on the official "The Movies" website.
Yea, I'm not looking to upload it on youtube or the orginal site. I just want to make a driving scene with my charater turning on the radio, but I don't like the music they provide.
Look great Man! I love this game! I used it to make a Music Video for one of My songs. (main vid on My channel) Used a few of the same sets too... lol I plan on getting the Stunts & effects next. I agree that tweeking it with Movie Maker works well. Especialy to trim the clips, and add better titles.
Both "The Movies" and "The Movies: Stunts and Effects Expansion Pack" can both be ordered from the Lionhead Studios website at Lionhead dot com. (Sorry, I cannot post the URL, YouTube won't allow it anymore, bleeping spammers.) You can also get it from Amazon and other online sites, or in stores such as Best Buy, Future Shop, EB Games, London Drugs, etc. I highly recommend both titles.
I made a movie in The Movies, too, and I really think everyone should use this game, IMO it's a lot better than Sims 2 for Movies, as one would expect, and yours shows that movies can be serious and dramatic, but mine shows how ridiculus these films can really be!
The sound was delayed on this version, a common fault with "The Movies" films, so I did a bit of re-editing using Windows Movie Maker, and a couple of free audio editing programs, Audacity and AoA Audio Extractor, to produce a new version in which the sound is a lot closer to proper sync. Click on "Brit Canuck", go to my page and select the "Reedited Cut" to check it out.
You can export a movie to your hard drive and usually find it in the folder above. In other folders, you can also store your original soundtrack music, sound effects, custom costume data, StarMaker character info, saved games, etc.
Well Done. BTW - If you want to get around the A/V delay issue, MS MovieMaker or Movie Edit Pro will let you adjust the audio tracks timing very easily. Plus you can import directly from "The Movies" and edit your scenes with more flexible transitions and crossfades.

I did the script from scratch, in Sandbox mode.
