Great effort .and fingerwork......watch a few things.. the Eb / C natural /C sharp/.. maybe look at a flute wih 6/ 8 keys....high C intonation...don't overuse rolls in sequence..perhaps switch to a sequence like ..roll/ harmonic variation / inversion/ roll or some similar variation...great stuff overall.

regarding breath pauses: it's one more ornamentation element, good players won't do it just at the end of every musical phrase, but they'll learn to use it to stress parts of the melody, and to give a differential effect, and so on and so forth.
Wonderful players like Micho Russell have famous breath pauses.
As for Orlaith's playing: just amazing!!! "under fifteen"... so unfair xD
Now she just needs to learn circular breathing so you dont hear those ghasps for air, and that would also help her close small lapses in songs if she wants.
Few musicians apart from didgeridoo players do it, i its a technique you should not underestimate! Good work! ;)
Circular breathing has never been used in Irish traditional music. 'Those ghasps for air' give the music its unique pulse. Without them, it just sounds 'robotic'.
@gusztavek Well obviously theres different opinnions, and i know circular hasnt been used in "traditional" as in back in the day, since its from australia, but i've taught a few people circular breathing, since i play the didgeridoo, and one of them named Dan primarily uses it for playing flute. He's pleased with the result.
I wish I could play the Irish flute, I only play classical and I've been wanting one of these for ages! Fiddle's all very well, but ... I want an Irish flute :/
Hammy Hamilton a flute maker who lives in Cuil Aodh in West Cork made this blackwood keyless flute in the key of D. Himself and Sam Murray currently resident in Galway are amongst the best known Irish traditional flute makers greatly respected by flute players throughout Ireland and indeed wherever the flute is played. They both have websites.
okaaay...im goin over here with the mature musicians now. lol. 'go neiri an bothar leat agus cuir stocai i do bheal. amadan!' as we irish guys wud say. or maybe even 'pioc do ceann amach as do thoin mar nil aon fhios agat i gceol tradisiunta'. ta tu as do bhosca! lol!
perfection...does she stop to breath at all, great job

Wonderful. I love the fast pace and upbeat rhythms of Celtic music. Does anyone know the name of the style of flute she is playing?

That's a wooden concert flute, blackwood, made by Hammy Hamilton, key of D.

I wouldn't go that far tbh, she's good, but Matt Molloy was competing in the seniors when he was under 15, and winning...
