You know, I enjoy reading the comments of the Alto/Ranka fans here (specifically BleachOD) because booooy, they were so arrogant and full of themselves (and shit) claiming that their ship was the canon one while Alto/Sheryl was just fanon and spreading it like it were the truth. And now that the love triangle is over (showing to everyone that Alto loves Sheryl and vice versa), I take delight in their tears, whines and sour-graping. Alto/Ranka fans...a classy bunch...

@Aprillis29 Technically..... the series ended as a threesome, even supported in light novels and the manga, however... Sheryl did have a hideous lead. She was four base and lived with Alto, while Ranka only got as far as a mere staged script. In both song and love, Sheryl WAS the winner in the end. She was the professional and mature how to handle it.

Ranka has to catch up. Doesn't mean she doesn't have a chance. She's already a songtress and is loved by Alto too.

@BleachOD The point you're missing here is that you have to see the series as a whole. Ranka was important to him from the start. Sheryl, on the other hand, worked hard for getting Alto's attention. By spending time together and getting to know each other, their relationship grew. If it was all about Ranka, then why didn't Alto go after her, why did he say he would kill her if she became a threat to Macross? Why did he stay and come closer to Sheryl? He made his decisions, which are very clear.

Assumptions don't get you anywhere, though. If he loved Ranka so much, then why was he willing to kill her if she became a threat to Frontier? Isn't that contradictory? What's more, it was Sheryl who wanted Alto to save Ranka in the first place.

On the one hand, I'm very happy that AruSheri is official, on the other hand I'm asking myself whether Sheryl being in a coma and Alto being missing is actually worth it. I don't know, it cuts both ways. It's a well-done ending, but so sad. To be honest, I really don't know whether I should like or loathe it. But hey... there's still the fans' imagination and fanfics. xD

@xXxValfarisxXx I like Sheryl/Ranka over Sheryl/Alto :P Although I knew Alto/Sheryl was going to be canon (Sheryl harem is still the best choice: Alto, Brera, Ranka, Grace-movie version or Sheryl manga version-). I like to think Sheryl awoke shortly after and sang the new Diamond Crevasse (since it was mean to convey her feelings?).

@thethessaliah Waaah... then... the ending was actually predictable? Darn you, Kawamori, lol. Do you think it's rather good or bad that he uses the same patterns over and over again? Many fans are complaining that torturing his characters is mean and such. But I think the way the ending is presented is also important. I don't know if I would have liked a sugarcoated happy ending if it had been presented badly. Seems it was more of a "enjoy the ride" sort of movie than an "enjoy the ending" one.

It's not that I don't like endings like that, but seeing my favorite characters suffering and knowng that there will be no chance for them to be reunited again makes me depressed. It's quite obvious that Alto never saw Ranka as woman. If you have romantic feelings of some sorts, it always includes sexual attraction to the other part. Alto, though, never felt attracted to her in a sexual manner. In fact, it was Sheryl whom he got sexually connotated scenes with, which ended up in them having sex.
