What nobody knows is how many times Russia has betrayed Poland, they did it in the partitions but probably the greatest betrayal was when they stood outside Warsaw during WW2 while pro polish revolutionaries were fighting german occupation. They were waiting for the soviets who they thought were their Allies but in truth had the goal to watch those brave people be murdered

If I remember correctly, the opening for the victory at the Vistula was due to an error in the deployment of Soviet forces. I believe Stalin made that mistake. It's interesting to speculate what history would have been like if linkup with revolutionaries in Germany had been accomplished. No ww2? No Hitler? No holocaust? No Israel?
Stalin did not reinforce the Soviet forces fighting in the battle of Warsaw. If he did, who knows, perhaps the result of the battle would be different. Concerning how Stalin treated the Jews in his late years, I'm not so sure there would be no holocaust. But I'm pretty sure there would be thousands of new Soviet "labor" concentration camps and another millions of innocents slaughtered.
@Rogvist Stalin did not aid the attack on Warsaw but given that the Poles were reading the Soviet radio transmissions thus knowing the plan and the difficulties that the communists faced in supply then the so called Miracle on the Vistula is no miracle at all. It needs to be remembered that the Soviets had advanced from the Dniepr to the Vistula in only a few weeks without the benefit of motorised transport. It may be argued that Stalin may have made the difference but I doubt it.

@kashgar22 Marshall Tukhachevsky complained out loud at the time that "If it were not for Stalin, he would have taken Warsaw." Stalin never forgot that outburst (True or not!), and it cost Tukhachevsky his life in the great purges of the late 1930's.

Kosciuszko squadron carried their tradition to WW2 (and today) and became the famous 303 Squadron of RAF, the best squadron of the Battle of Britain... The best story you can imagine...
Let's not forget about a squadron of American volunteer fliers from Kosciuszko Squadron who helped greatly to achieve a victory. Meriam C. Cooper, a creator of the squadron became famous for producing and co-directing the iconic "King Kong" movie. Thanks fellas for your help, hats of our heads!!!
Anyone interested should look for a great book by Lt. Kenneth Murray "Wings over Poland", it's so detailed it could really be a good guidebook to follow the battlefield. Very rare book though...
I love and hate these documentaries, I try not to watch them, I end up felling a range of emotions, I get reminded of the heavy burden that always rests on my shoulders for being Polish, it's like I know deep down inside that someday in the future it's going to be my turn, my turn to fight, my turn to give everything... it's a horrible feeling, this is deeper then love or maybe what real love is, I was programed this way ever since I can remember, to do my part when time comes... to give 100%

I am always amazed about this war, my Great Grandfather was in Warsaw when it was attacked, but he was too young to volunteer. I always wondered if any of my other ancestors fought here but most of the documents of them were destroyed by the communist in their attempts to erase this war from history!
My great grandmother was in this war as a prisoner a Polish decent a saddness in her eyes was unmisken as her family was wiped out saving herself and her brother, you could hear her cry after her hip was replaced from an injury during the war, she cried for her mother. She was maybe 11 or 14 no one is sure even she was never sure of her age. All records were destroyed. To hear her would break the hardest heart. touchy subject, im half british and half polish my grandmother came over to the uk after WW2 after she met my grandfarther who was a british soldier. On one hand britian did in a way leave poland to the russians but doing something about it would of started another war. In britains defence when germany invaded poland no other country came to its defence, Britain bled fo Poland.

The Russians have never forgotten that as Putin mentioned it recently (negatively). The Allies and White army lost to the communists, maybe that's why they would not help Poland, they were just withdrawing from Archangel in 1919. What nobody knows is how many times Russia has betrayed Poland, they did it in the partitions but probably the greatest betrayal was when they stood outside Warsaw during WW2 while pro polish revolutionaries were fighting german occupation. They were waiting for the soviets who they thought were their Allies but in truth had the goal to watch those brave people be murdered

Interesting video, no propaganda, no bias. Its great that you mentioned that polish troops invaded Ukraine and wanted to return the lands of Rech Pospolitaya. Poland did the great job to stop the communism, Europe was extremely weak at the time, and was sure to fall. Russia was exhausted after ww1 and, revolution its population fell by 30 million :(.. If I remember correctly, the opening for the victory at the Vistula was due to an error in the deployment of Soviet forces. I believe Stalin made that mistake. It's interesting to speculate what history would have been like if linkup with revolutionaries in Germany had been accomplished. No ww2? No Hitler? No holocaust? No Israel?

Stalin did not reinforce the Soviet forces fighting in the battle of Warsaw. If he did, who knows, perhaps the result of the battle would be different. Concerning how Stalin treated the Jews in his late years, I'm not so sure there would be no holocaust. But I'm pretty sure there would be thousands of new Soviet "labor" concentration camps and another millions of innocents slaughtered.

@Rogvist Stalin did not aid the attack on Warsaw but given that the Poles were reading the Soviet radio transmissions thus knowing the plan and the difficulties that the communists faced in supply then the so called Miracle on the Vistula is no miracle at all. It needs to be remembered that the Soviets had advanced from the Dniepr to the Vistula in only a few weeks without the benefit of motorised transport. It may be argued that Stalin may have made the difference but I doubt it.

The Soviet army came into being after Stalin came to power and removed Trotsky from military authority.

Soviets at final stage of the battle of Warsaw had been completly cut off from its main suppply routs by the Wieprz flanking manouvre in which had used a well co-ordinated mobile units to quickly overann rear soviet units and cut off the main body of red army fighting on the ouskirts of warsaw and soviets started to run out of ammunition in the few days until they had no choice but to surrender

Yet I agree with if the Russians won, and I remember my history books not mentioning this war at all! At least my History teacher knew about it. No Hitler would've been nice, but having half or more of Europe communist controlled scares me more.

Kosciuszko squadron carried their tradition to WW2 (and today) and became the famous 303 Squadron of RAF, the best squadron of the Battle of Britain... The best story you can imagine...

Let's not forget about a squadron of American volunteer fliers from Kosciuszko Squadron who helped greatly to achieve a victory. Meriam C. Cooper, a creator of the squadron became famous for producing and co-directing the iconic "King Kong" movie. Thanks fellas for your help, hats of our heads!!!
Anyone interested should look for a great book by Lt. Kenneth Murray "Wings over Poland", it's so detailed it could really be a good guidebook to follow the battlefield. Very rare book though...

I am always amazed about this war, my Great Grandfather was in Warsaw when it was attacked, but he was too young to volunteer. I always wondered if any of my other ancestors fought here but most of the documents of them were destroyed by the communist in their attempts to erase this war from history!

My great grandmother was in this war as a prisoner a Polish decent a saddness in her eyes was unmisken as her family was wiped out saving herself and her brother, you could hear her cry after her hip was replaced from an injury during the war, she cried for her mother. She was maybe 11 or 14 no one is sure even she was never sure of her age. All records were destroyed. To hear her would break the hardest heart. Polacy postawili im warunki czerwoni powiedzieli tak, a biali nie.
Piłsudzki wiedział, że biali mówią prawdę, a czerwoni kłamią wyczekał moment by być się z tymi którzy wygrają. Idealne posunięcie strategiczne.

Cool history video, thank you. I did not know about this war. I had read about US and Allied troops in Russia though and found that very interesting also. The Russians have never forgotten that as Putin mentioned it recently (negatively). The Allies and White army lost to the communists, maybe that's why they would not help Poland, they were just withdrawing from Archangel in 1919. None of these action's are taught in schools in America, you have to learn about them yourself. Like now. Thanks

Actually France did help Poland a lot with weapons and the services of Marchal Weygand who actually did the planning for the miracle of the Vistula

@whatewer23 It was when the Polish army defeated the superior soviet army by the river of Vistula near Warsaw. That battle ended the Polish soviet war in Poland's favor. Before the battle started everyone in Europe believed that Poland has already lost the war.

Maxime Weygand - Wikipedia:

Weygard was present during the war , was sent by the French government, had plans on how to tackle russians, Weygard said himself that "he wasn't the one who planed the whole operation" unlike it is being claimed in western publications.
In France after the end of this war Weygard was anyway on his return greated as a hero and saviour of Europe.
Weygard didn't not accept the plans that were implemented saying they were too risky, he had plans of his own, but they were not implement

We was part of Russia 2 times. First after 1772 in 3 partitions who You made with Your best friend Germany and second after 4 partition in 1939 with Germans again. (You really loved Them) Most Polish Uprisings was against Russia and "nachajka politic" who You want set in Poland. There is no different that in Russia is communism or not. Poles are always persecuted and sending to Siberia. First just respect basic human rights.
