how much backing? how much line? Do you even need backing? These are some of the FIRST things we need to learn. So, do you have an answer?

depends on what your fishing for how much backing the bigger they fish the more backing you need..i run 100yrds of backing for atlantic salmon...but backing also helps fill the reel making line retreival faster so you should basicly run as much backing as you can on the reel with out over filling it....by line im guesing you mean leader as the float line comes in one piece and is ment to be instaled without cuting it..i run a leader slightly longer than my rod...
