THIS IS PRETTY COOL THAT YA'LL DID THIS. A LOT PEOPLE WILL SAY THINGS ABOUT BEING ON THE WEB. JUST LIKE DANCING INSIDE, OR GOING TO CHURCH SUNDAY MORNING. BEING CREEK IS THE WAY TO LIVE. I LOVE IT. THAT'S ALL. THANKS.
My great grandfather on my mothers side is full blooded Cherokee. And my great-great grandmother, or grandfather, on my fathers side. And I have other ancestors down the line that were part Cherokee. Other than that I'm Irish. I wish I was more in-tune with my Cherokee culture and heritage. I try. I actually look a lot more Cherokee than white. So does my mother. While my younger sister is as white as a snow flake. I hope to learn the language one day to feel closer to my native American great-
It is nice to see that someone is keeping the culture and traditions of the Yuchi people alive. My son is half Yuchi and its hard to find examples of his culture. As far as i know only 3 native speakers are left who know the Yuchi dialect. Please to those who care dont let ur culture, language and traditions die out. It is sad to see this happen to so many tribes.
Who cares if someone is white and native american? My great -great-great-great-great grandmother was a full-blooded yuchi princess who married timothy barnard; the man who founded macon georgia. I'm proud to be yuchi even though i'm about the whitest girl ever.
@Ivste just because we have that "every drop counts" thing doesn't mean all of us Cherokee's are white. You don't know anything about us so how bout you shut up.
If you want to experience a true, non-commercialized stomp dance, then come to Sallisaw, Oklahoma during Labor Day weekend. The dances start friday, and don't end until monday when the fires burn out. Bring a good attitude and an appetite for pork and fry bread ;) Feel free to jump into the dance at any time. This event is sponsored by the Cherokee nation, and everyone is free to attend. The only rules are no alcohol, and an open heart. Hope to see you there.
@Toolshed48 WOW, thank You Toolshed for the generous and upbeat invite. The thing that caught >my EYE< with Your message? NON COMMERCIAL. As much as is possible, i truely prefer humbly watching (You say invited to dance? wow lol) as the nations gather for events as close to old ways as possible; dress/attire as well. It's much more moving in my spirit that way..but that's just me. TY again Namaste'
@Essyemmm Thank you Namaste. The stompdance I am talking about is hosted by the Cherokee in the area, but it is open to any nation, and any race. You will absolutely love this. This is not about some video recorded pow-wow. The event is open to all nations, all races, and I hope you will participate. Hope to see you this year before someone commercializes this event. For now, this still represents our tribes in their simplicity. This event has not been commercialized in any way.
I'm a Black Cherokee. My family has Cherokee on both sides. On my father and mothers side. Much of our hertiage has been lost in my family. All we know is that we are Cherokee. My great great great grandmother died in 2008. She was the last true cherokee in the family and knew the culture. :(
I'm proud of my native heritage and culture. My grandmother and nephew are in the video they went to north carolina and other places. My grandmother makes shirts, dresses, and both types of shells.
This Stomp dance was performed by the members from "Duck Creek" ceremonial ground out of Hectorville,Ok. which most of the members are from the Creek and Yuchi tribes. Awesome song... Too all you native americans; Please learn your cultures and your native tongue, you won't be sorry... Keep them alive..
that was something new for me, got interested in that stomp dance:)can everyone get up and dance?looks like they are having more fun than i have on a saturday night :)
I Love to Stomp Dance, I am 15/16 Chickasaw/Miss. Choctaw and a member of the Chickasaw Nation Dance Troupe and my home grounds is The Kullihoma Stomp Grounds. Thanks for all the members of the stompdance tribes for keeping the dances alive and going. N-D-N Pride 4ever!!!
Very beautiful - I enjoy the music so much, I also love that some allow non-tribal members to stomp along. It is something to be very proud of, KEEP'N IT REAL.
The stomp dance is such an amazing thing to see and hear. I love the way the sound of the shell shakers, and I am enthralled when I see the group of dancers getting larger and larger, until it looks like a giant snake coiling around.
I am 1/2 Creek, so seeing something like this on youtube does my soul good. Thank you for the post.
there are not as many dance grounds that have the stomp dance outside of oklahoma.
and as for the thousands of indians on the net. well you go put in a search for native americans on myspace and see what ya get..do you think those people still do what they supposed to do?..lol i dont know..just sayin
as a non Native American taking part in these ceremonies, I have to say there are plenty of Indians living the by the Traditional Ways. The Stompdance Ceremonies are the Ancient forms of a Church. Yes, it is a CHURCH. No alcohol or drugs. Each Grounds have their own rules to abide by. Mostly Creek, Seminole, Cherokee and their different Bands. The Grounds were moved to Okla. during the exodus to Ok. by way of the Trail of Tears. This is sacred and secretive to outsiders.
I too am from the Euchee and Creek tribes, you know what they saw about stompdancers...we do it all night long! Seriously, nice to see this on youtube...wish more of the youth would carry on their traditions....its a shame. they are so quick to pick up a basketball instead (at least where I'm from) thinking thats all there is in life. Nice to meet you all, great video.
Out of all the thousands of native americans that have a myspace account or just browsing through this network, I must say how shameful it is to say that only four natives has comment /responded to this video. I come from the Euchee& Creek tribes and I am proud to see a native from any tribe keep the traditions rolling. Come on brothers & sisters stand proud with your cultures/hertigages coz if you won't NOBODY will. I would LOVE to see/hear more of young leaders out on the ceremonial grounds.
