That said, only the first batch of waste electrolyte is very toxic. The Cr+6 leaches from the surface once. As long as the cell is not being over driven and metal is not being eaten away, subsequent batches should be safe. That's why it's a good idea to precondition plates in a bath of weak electrolyte for a while first, alternating charge about once an hour for about a week, before putting them into full service. Even 316L.
Many towns and municipalities regularly sponsor free hazmat collection drives. Check with your local town to see if they offer this service. 1) Handle carefully wearing latex gloves. 2) Collect waste electrolyte in empty plastic milk containers. 3) Label the containers with the contents - Cr+6 or Cr(VI) and your electrolyte, KOH, NaOH, NaHCO3. 4) Dispose of through Hazmat {usa} collection points. 5) If grinding stainless, wear a respirator. thim in scotland.
OOO what i forgot to say there was ... use Potassium hydroxide Flakes, no scum long life, but dont dump water in to water table it leaches poision when used with Stainless /Steel. this will lessen in time, but 316 s/s best 304 will go brown as carbon leaches out of it..
dog is anoying sure is..... but why you get scum is due to useing salt or baking sodas and such.... they burn during the electrolosis proccess, and they burn up creating your scumm as they are used up, there life expectancy is less than sodium hyroxide..... if you got scum useing S/H, you must be using 304 stainless and this leaches carbon out, then water going brown, 316 s/s, non magnetic = no carbon = no scum.
sorry could not watch any more the dog in the background needs to be gone, how could you live with this. Spend more money on gas is worth getting ride of the dog.
Can you pls tell me what the concentration will be if u mix 4M of sodium hydroxide into distilled water???

Have you tried it with filtered sea water? Sea water has higher levels of electrolytes, as well as H3O(+) and H3O2(-) molecules.
