@CampCook12345 Thanks! One more question. I know that's quite a large gun, but putting the weight aside do you think it's possible for one to conceal one of those with the 4.2" barrel? Not talking about legalities, just the physical ability.
I'm a big time hunter in Ontario, and I'm curious.. do you live in one of those parts of the bush you can open carry your ruger, due to the fact you'll probably run into a bear? Great Videos I just subscribed!
@CampCook12345 I think the bear just wanted some honey and didn't want to bother anyone, especially the guy with the gun! :) The gun is great though, I am thinking to get one of these for myself.
@srb6868 I buy all of my leather holsters from Mernickle Holsters I am friends with the owner Bob we used to shoot at the same gun club before he moved to the States.
I've shot a bunch of those 454 casull 300 gr Hornady XTP Magnums out of my 7.5 super redhawk. they, uh... are stout. really stout.
Whenever I go to the range with someone I havn't shot with before, I suggest that they "gotta try" my 454, "It's so cool!" Then they shoot half a cylinder and their hand hurts and is shaking so badly that I can out shoot them the rest of the day!
GREAT VIDEO! You have great control on that bucking beast! are you rolling the trigger or making one smooth pull?
I have been hunting with this gun for black bear in the swamps of PA for years, although I have not shot any with it a few of the guys in camp have and with the right load this is the gun to have. We use a 340 grain solid lead bullet and it works really well most of our shots are under 15 yards and in a few cases under 7 yards. I would like to have this gun cut to 5 or 5.5" though and would like to know who does this and does it the best? thanks for any help you can give me
i really want this handgun but the 2 inch, how much do they run? Is this model still in production, all the websites have them sold out, will just have to find a private seller? Good shooting!
I've had both a 2.5" alaskan and 7.5" full sized. I prefer the full sized gun because I don't believe short barrels give the .454 all the performance it deserves. You're not getting much extra weight for all that extra barrel too.
I shoot 405gr Beartooth WLNGC's @ 1330fps from this 4.25" gun which is a lot of performance the same load in a 7.5" gun gives me 1420fps which is only a 90fps loss for the 3 1/4" shorter barrel and I totally prefer the faster handling and balance that it gives me.
Thank you so much for all the information you put in your video, very good research on the firearm you use. I use the same firearm for bear protection in alaska where i live. By the way I had a serious creeping problem with corbon 335 hardcast bullets, and corbon ignored my request's for infomation about this problem with their ammunition, Buffalo bore ammuniton no problems and feel very safe with their product. Thanks again.
One of the things that I like about the SRH's in 454 Casull is they have a built in pressure gauge.
If the brass becomes a bit sticky when extracting your gun is still way below the pressures it can handle so my suggestion is if it is possible and I can't see why not give those bullets a better crimp.
I use a Lee Factory crimp die to crimp my bullets and give them a very healthy crimp up to 1 3/4" turn down adjustment on the 405gr loads.
where did you find a S/R in 454 with a 4.5 inch barrel? we use this gun on our bear hunts here in PA, we hunt the swamps and it's just to thick to carry a long gun so most of us use the ruger S/R in 454, I came up with a 340 grain load that knocks them off their feet, most of our shots are under 20 yards and some as close as a few feet, the gun for the money is awesome but for our use we really could use a shorter barrel maybe like 5.5 inches but I wouldn't be opposed to a 4.5 inch barrel.
No a 44mag is not stronger ex: a 44mag will shoot 240gr bullets to 1500fps & 300gr bullets to 1350fps and a 454 Casull will shoot 240gr bullets to 1900fps and 300gr to 1600fps.
If you buy factory 45 Colt loads the 44 mag is more powerful, if you reload it is possible to easliy surpass the 44mag with the the 45 Colt.
All are capable of stopping bears the best choice for you is how well you can shoot any of the 3 cartridges.
is a 44 magnum stronger than a 454 casull? and is a 44 magnum stronger than a 45 long colt? Finally which of those three would be the best for bear defencen when hunting and witch one has the most stopping power
Good shooting. 15yds with a cannon like that takes good control. Your choice of cross-chest rig and your smooth presentation were excellent.
A few of your groups had as many as 4 well centered hits at that distance. The jokers who comment should try it sometime and get acquainted with a hotloaded .45 LC or a full .454, and do it double action under reasonably practical conditions as you did. Good Job!
hi i waswondering what holster are you using ? it looks nice also would it fit a super redhawk with 7.5inch barrel? im in the market for a big bore revolver ilike the 454 casull super redhawk and 480 ruger also the smith and wesson 629 in 44 rem how is the recoil of the casull with hot loads and mild ones? ive shot a 44 and it didnt kick much but never shot anything larger in a hand gun what do u think?
That is the gayest bear I've ever seen. Good thing you shot the shit out of it.

I have a remote area ATC (authorization to carry) for Alberta/BC = remote area handgun carry for the defense of my life and the life of others.
I was able to get the permit because I was working as a self-employed free miner.

Can you crimp the Corbon bullets a bit more.

I had a spring kit ionstalled in it so it is slightly lighter and definately smoother than a stock SRH but it is still a heavy double action trigger.
