i had flypen before one of these and flypen is alot more complicated and child-ish. the pulse was a lot simpler: plug and play usb and just all around better (slimmer/less bulky too) once i get used to it (had it for only a few days now) i think it will be a very valuable tool

this could be a VERY useful tool for journalists. i used to work for a smalltown newspaper and i'd use an audio recorder when i did interviews, plus taking a few notes. it was a hassle to have to scrub through the recording to pull a quote or something like that. if you want to mark a quote with this, just record, write a letter and bam, touch it to paper later to hear it. pretty cool if you ask me. i just wonder how many people would be willing to spend 150 for the pen,but how much for the ink?

Wow, that guy have great communication skills. I just bought the pulse 2gb to take notes in engineering electromagnetics class, it will help a lot to play back professors explaination with written examples. It's a lot of money, but to me it's with it.

2 things, 1. People who say they could just have a computer, there are 2 things I want to say. 1; Price. THIS IS ALLLOT CHEAPER. 2; Mobility, Who would STEAL PAPER AND PEN and also more mobile (They also have a Mini book)

2. There are SO many things you could do with this! Comics with sound, Instruments, Made Up Games, and more! I mean this is THE $#!T. It's so awesome I don't know why you wouldn't want it. Even the live at moms home nerd can write down tactics for WOW.

It seems to be limited because you have to use a certain paper. I dont understand how that is better than a laptop (especially the ones with touch screen, etc).

just a good space saver. plus i mean touch screen laptops are expensive if you don't want one that's a piece of shit. it would probably be most useful in scientific classes where we are always drawing diagrams and things, so to have this moved to your comp when you plug it in would be handy

Sure buy it. If i had that pen when i was still at school, i would've made my life much easier.

One thing you should keep in mind is to keep creativity flowing. Think of more ways to use the smartpen, other than record what you say or write.

I for one am trying to incorporate the pen in writing music. I can now write lyrics and songs as inspiration strikes. I don't need to carry a laptop or music instrument with me.

I'm not a student, I'm out in the business world. This pen seems to fill a pretty good roll in capturing the stupid stuff people say in meetings. I capture notes in every meeting so this seems like a likely fit.

If you say this pen is useless, then a cheap tape recorder and attentive ears must also be useless since they serve the same overall purpose. This pen is about convenience, to move your pen over your text and instantly hear the lecture at that point in time. Sure it's not a necessity by any means, but it's a useful luxury, and if this pen helps you with your education, it's more than worth it.

you can get 4, 100 page notebooks for 20 bucks, which is pricey, but livescribe promises to come up with a provision of printing the paper from their website within a few months.

I think it's cool. But yea, it does seem silly paying so much for a pen... I guess it depends on how much money we make. Then again, it's not really a pen. I look at it like a specialized computer. you're neglecting or forgetting the storage capability of this. Being able to share notes directly with friends PLUS the audio from class or yourself could be pretty damn useful. The key here is practicality. And it will only get easier to use.

i'm in law school and some of my professors don't allow laptops. shuffling through hundreds of pages of notes studying for exams is NOT cool. this pen would allow me to search my notes as well as listen to the lectures. i'm totally sold on it.

I think Ive seen all the videos on this product. They have not said anything about converting hand written notes to text,like the fly pen. Pulse is much better anyway. Please post comment if you know.

he came in and bought a macbook from me at work on saturday, and he was telling me about it. it doesnt convert written word to text, but it records everything taht is being said while you are taking the notes. pretty sweet
