In the movie, "Pancho jumps and celebrates at the "Aquaduct" b4 the Kentucky Derby, hes screaming as he won but he didnt , i wonder if this was a production mistake on the movie, cause even in the movie Sham is second !! or is that he was just happy cause sham beat Secretariat...
@SukBonelessSausage Hush up you stupid troll! It's a known fact that Secretariat's enlarged heart was inherited from his dam's side on the X chromosome. Type "Secretariat X-Factor" in Google and read all about it. Also, Lauren inflicted brutal workouts on his colt before each race (legendary workouts). Would he need those drilling sessions if he was on the juice? When he didn't respond to them (i.e. before the Whitney due to illness) he lost. Think a little, dummy!
@UsuxMyBallsack May I ask where you read or heard that? Or if you've acquired any actual evidence that supports your claim? I'm not inclined to believe these rumors since I've never found or have been presented with any credible evidence. I assume you do have some evidence however, since I don't know many people who would post such damning claims without any.
@UsuxMyBallsack Beyer actually admired Secretariat, gave him a 139 BSF for the Belmont (the highest ever) and praised his athletic ability on the track. Get your facts straight, stupid monkey!
In the few pages in the book "Secretariat," Mr. Nack's writing is so wonderful, even poetic, that the reader can actually feel himself in the stands at Belmont on that June day in 1973. It is the most moving description of such a great event that I have ever read. In an epilogue entitled "Pure Heart," he further describes the final days of Secretariat, and it is to say the least a tear jerker. This man's writing is absolutely magnificent.
@WMJCPA I am reading the book now and I totally agree....His blow by blow descriptions of Secretariats races left me breathless. What a wonderful writer!
@elaine31347 GREAT ! I want everybody to have the same experience... I had it and cldn't breathe at times, reading the descriptions of those races. As Red Smith says on the back.... "the next best thing to watching Secretariat run... " cldn't agree more. This intro by Nack on video shld have been how the movie started, cold, rainy night, a long shot in the dark of the breeding shed in corner in back of the field, one light glowing in the dark. Didn't like the movie.
BILL, I THINK YOU ARE THE GREATEST SPORTSWRITER OF ALL TIME. I LOVE ALL YOUR COMMENTARIES ON EVERY HORSE YOU HAVE EVER COVERED. I JUST HOPE THERE WILL BE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR GREAT LIFE AS A THOROUGHBRED HORSE RACING SPORTSWRITER.I ALSO LIKE HOW YOU STOOD UP TO THE RACING WORLD AFTER WHAT HAPPENED TO RUFFIAN, IF IT WERENT FOR U NOTHING WOULD HAVE PROBABLY BEEN DONE TO PROTECT HORSES...I LOVE HOW IT USED TO BE WHEN SECRETARIAT RAN, THEN SOMEHOW IT WAS MORE SHORTCUTS IN BREEDING. WELOVEYA!!
I truely wish that Mr Nack would do this same type of video for Ruffian. LOVE Secretariat and have great respect for him and his incredible feats. Yet I will always hold Ruffian in a special place in my heart.
I love Mr. Nack, and especially his enthusiasm for horse racing. Ive been going to the races since I was 13 in 1988. A lot has changed in the sport, and unfortunately its popularity has declined, but Bill Nack is still around. Much like I heard him say in another interview, he truly IS a keeper of the flame for a majestic sport thats been forgotten.
God bless you Mr. Nack, and watching u talk about horses always gets me amped up about thoroughbred racing.
Mr Nack.. although i acknowledge you loved Big Red and love horses... and I acknowledge that you are a great writer and reporter.... I really think you miss the bond between horses and humans.. Also I can only assume it was was because of his great heart that pumped so much blood to make him shed his feet.. Sham also had the great heart;... by Prinquilo
"Secretariat by Bill Nack is what I just started reading. "The Horse That God Built" by Lawrence Scanlan shows the love between Secretariat and his groom Eddie Sweat.
THIS is how the movie should have started.... chilly night in March... real drama. And THEN follow the book 100 % I hope American Experience or Ken Burns does the story and does it right !!
Bill Nack will forever be on my Christmas card list for his unparalleled coverage and re-telling of the Secretariat story. And if Mr. Nack says that Secretariat was "Perfect" and the greatest thoroughbred to ever walk this planet... I BELIEVE IT!!
Challedon .... that was the thoroughbred that the poet Edna St Vincent Millay was involved with .... 2nd in the Derby, winner of the Preakness ... HOY 1939, 1940....
I was happy to give back to you (for that autograph) the little tidbit I had read about Millay warming herself up before poetry readings by reciting all the Derby winners!

@SECby31 I certainly concur , you will always have people such as this idiot.

@SECby31 Bill Nack said that you used to fuck him in the ass while Andy Beyer watched and masturbated

Secretariat used illegal steriods according to Andrew Beyer.

@GoldenOakFarm there is a video here for Ruffian where he talks at length. I saw once, but I can't watch the race and what happens... just can't.
